Four years after you posted this, you have also saved us $$$. The Hayward rep said we had a bad circuit board and gave me the part number $170. Conveniently, we went with your suggestion and solved the problem with the $2.50 part. We are now generating and everything is working! I am actually going to tell my pool store manager as he didn't know and wasn't thrilled with telling me I would have to call Hayward. The younger workers suggested recalibration through KZfaq and I found you. YAY!! Thank you so much!!

Thanks for the video! I was at a total loss. I could not seem to find a pool company located close enough to my house to come out to repair my pool. One guy was nice enough to walk me through some steps over the phone, which he assumed the cell to be the issue. I purchased a new cell, which still did not fix my issue, but cost me nearly $400. I then scoured the Internet in search of solving the problem myself. Not knowing anything about how this pool system operates, I wasn't super optimistic I could repair the pool myself. Then I came across this video and viola! I ordered the current limiter, followed the steps in your video and PRESTO! I am back in business. It took me FOREVER to get the current limiter desoldered from the circuit board, and thought for sure I would have ruined it, but to my surprise, I reinstalled the circuit board after soldering the new current limiter on, and every thing began working perfectly. I can't thank you enough... and my husband should thank you too as you saved him the headache of repairing the pool or paying for more unnecessary parts. THANKS AGAIN!!

The tip from one viewer about using electric tape and a binder clip as a temporary fix is fantastic! I used this to get my system back on line in minutes and have just ordered the parts to do the permanent fix later.

I watched your video & it helped alot. In the past I just changed the circuit board & it was over $200.00. It wasn't easy to find a current limiter in town but after a long drive I got one. I even bought a spare one. It wasn't easy to the remove the old solder. After working on it for 2 hours I finally had the generator running, and it only cost me $35.00.I needed flux, solder, soldering iron, solder wick and the current limiter. Thanks for all the help.

Great video, I had the exact same symptoms and your fix worked perfectly. Digi-key shipped the parts promptly; 20 minutes with my soldering iron and I'm back in business. thanks again.

Great job, word of advice in determining the fault:No power (no lights at all) to the box, it's the fuseGenerating but no salt conversion, it's the relayPower with No Flow light, it's the no flow switch (located outside the box)Also, while waiting for your new parts to arrive, you can also revert to treating your pool the normal way by just adding chlorine along with other chemicals to maintain it for swimming. In all, you did a nice job my friend.

Thank you very much for posting this video- I had the exact same symptons went to my local pool store and they stated you could not even buy the limiter and i would need to replace the board.. before i went in i actually had already ordered 2 delimmiters from digi key (took 2 days and cost $8.00 including shipping. I then installed and I am back in business!!! Took about 20 minutes from start to finish. This video saved me a boatload of cash!!! thanks again

Joe, Great Video. Clear and concise. I had figured out it wasn't the 20 amp fuse but wasn't sure where to go from there. Your video helped me troubleshoot, diagnose and fix the problem for around $10. Digikey was quick. Ordered a the SL32 2R025 (and an extra one) on Wednesday night and it arrived Friday afternoon. Not a pretty soldering job but back in business on Saturday morning. Thanks! Sure beats the $300 a new board would have cost.

We owe you a huge thank you. We were having the exact same problem and followed your instructions, bought a new current limiter from digikey (which by the way has ultra fast shipping) and put it in and we have power and are generating salt. We were told that we need a whole new unit to the tune of 2000.00. We were able to. Fix it for less than 20.Only thing I would recommend is checking the part number on your current limiter as ours differed slightly from joe homeowners and ended up having to reorder the proper one.If anyone needs the same one as joe let us know and we will mail it to you as we couldn't return it.Thank you thank you thank you

Great video, thanks for the help. I had the same issue. When I talked to my pool guy, they said that we'll need to order part and eliminate. They first suspected the flaw switch which they replaced for over 200$. The problem continued and they suggested to replace the board next. I got sick and tired of Hayward and wanted to replace the entire unit with Pentaire instead. They gave me a quote for 1500 + 85$/hr labor. I decided to wait and search in Google for similar issues. I cam across your video and others. I ordered the limited and the fuse per your suggestion. I received the parts today and after 1 hour everything seems to be working. I just need to add more salt now. Thanks for saving me over 1500 dollar....Riyad

Thanks for this video. Bought a replacement current delimiter from Digi-Key and did the install today...back in business. Your solder job looks way better than how mined ended up looking. I did notice that the current delimiter runs very hot to the touch. I do not know if this is normal or not. My Aqua Rite is almost 9 yrs old & has the deep dark blue cover panel. 1st repair other than cell replacement. Thanks again for posting the video as it saved me quite a bit I am sure.

Slightly different board, but same problem and same solution. Local store ask $770 to replace the board. And all I spend was $80 for two current limiter and a good soldering gun. Big help. Thanks man!

Great video, Joe, the current limiter (thermistor) from my machine crumbled in my hand so I know it needs replacement. For those of you who need the part number it's: SL32 2R025 - They are common and available on-line and in most electronic parts stores.

Hey Joe, Man you save me a lot of money. I was thinking I had to buy a new control panel. Then I saw your youtube video. Mine was doing the exact same thing as yours. So I went ahead and order the part based on your video. I ordered the part from Digikey and got it in two days. In about 10 minutes I had the new current limiter installed and the control panel working great with all the lights working. My old limiter crumbled just like yours did and had the burnt marks. Thanks a million.

hey Joe, had the same problem, thanks to google and guys like you posting the fix online i was able to fix the motherboard current limiter. i was quote 700 $ for a complete new motherboard including labour. The current limiter wa 5 bucks and i bought the solder iron and desolder sucker. All together 70 $. I am not a handyman and never did solder neither desolder in my entire life. Once i had the motherboard removed i was able to do the job, was not that difficult. After i installed the motherboard back the power light went on and i am again chlorinating my pool. Thanks again

Hi Joe, Thank you so much for this video. Bella jobba. I actually opened up my Aquarite system and the current delimeter was cracked down the middle. So to check if this was the problem as a temporary fix I used electrical tape and a small binder clip to keep the crack sealed. Turned the system back on and it's working now.... wooohoooo, I should receive the new part that I ordered from DigiKey shortly and make it a permanent fix. Molto Grazie! I can also say that this video helped me fix my Hayward Salt system by replacing the thermistor as he shows. Kudo's buddy. I had a new system $850 in my Amazon cart when I came across this video. I cleared the cart and purchased the thermistor. Total cost: $5.00. When I desoldered mine I found it was cracked in half. BTW, the video shows replacing the fuse and re-testing. No need, just test fuse continuity with the multimeter.

Thank you very much! The current limiter was it for me as well. 2$ part instead of new mother board for $179. Can't beat that.... When I opened the control box and exposed the board, the mother board around the current limiter was dark, almost black. So I knew it was it but I was not sure if maybe there was damage to the board but luckily it was not! I too never soldered before. Watched a few good videos online and it ended up pretty easy.

Thank You for this video. Upon inspection, I found the Current Limiter literally falling apart. I shut down the power & TIGHTLY WRAPPED THE CURRENT LIMITER (THERMISTOR) WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE. AMAZINGLY, THE AQUA RITE SYSTEM IS GENERATING AGAIN! I know this is only a temporary fix. I ordered a SL32 2R025 Thermistor on Ebay. I am going to try to cut the old Limiter & install the new one using solderless crimp connectors. That should prevent me from having to go through the soldering process.

Thanks for the great video! I was able to quickly solve the issue and save some money! The board is actually very easy to remove. Replacing the limiter only took a few minutes. Total job was maybe 20 minutes to kill power pull apart, solder, and reassemble. My unit was about 9 years old and it looked like maybe weather had taken its toll on the materials in the limiter. Also Digi-Key was extremely quick and easy to purchase from.

Hey Joe, thank you very much for a well detailled video which was exactly like my problem. I did everything that you mentionned and like you said, everything was back to normal. Christian Morier hey Christian.l, I’m also from Montreal and not sure if I have the same problem. All lights are not working, only the digital numbers are appearing. Was that your issue as well? If so what did you do to fix it? Hope to hear from you thanks!!

I was losing hope, found your video, bought soldering stuff (never done this stuff except when I was 5 years with my older brother), started to desolder the current limiter, started to lose hope again because it looked so hideous and for sure I was screwing it up, finally got the part soldered to the board, put the box back together, powered it up and both Power and Generating lights came on! Yay! However, I must not have had enough salt so the Generating light went off (while the Power was still on) and the Check Salt light went on ... threw in three bags of salt (that's all I had) let that swirl around the pool for about 15 minutes, put the switch to Off, then back On, pressed the Diagnostic button five times and let it alone for about a minute which seemed to reset the unit and it started to Generate again with a reading of 3000. At the beginning, I really thought this was not going to go well, but it did the trick... but for sure I will be keeping my day job!

Angel Antonio Montenegro This is the part that I purchased from Amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DKYO2IO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) -- the part description is "AMETHERM SL32 2R025 NTC THERMISTOR (1 piece)" -- but if you have an electronic store near you then you can probably get this for much cheaper - a couple of bucks at most. You will also need a soldering iron and solder. Cheers, Cliff

Thank you very much for your video. My Aqua Trol had the same issue. I had no evidence of the problem on the board but I had nothing to loose by changing the current limiter. However, it was hard to unsold because of the large surface of the circuit board and also because it was sold on both faces of the board. To ease the unsoldering, I cut the legs of the old current limiter to reduce the heat sink effect of the old unit. Then I was able to unsolder both legs from the board with the help of a pair of plier. The part number of the current limiter was AS32 2R025 wich I get from a local electronic store at 12.95$.
@RickMeister648 жыл бұрын
Joe, Thanks for posting this! I had the exact same problem. I jiggled the current limiter a bit and the power and generating LEDs came on but went off again. Jiggled some more, came on, then off. Finally the current limiter cracked in half (i.e. the disk that's sandwiched between the two round pates) leaving me with 2 pieces. I got a brainwave to put the disk back in between the plated and clamp in with regular office supply bull nose clips (ones you use for files). Voila! It's working now and the LEDs are staying on. Not a permanent solution but will suffice until I get the replacement from digikey.com for only $3.40 (p/n: 570-1062-ND). Looks like a quick solder. BTW: I called 2 pool service guys off the Hayward site. Both told me I needed to replace the entire board ($500+ including labor). Amazing that they don't know that this is a quick fix or refused to tell me.
