Hey Bentley, it's been a long time. It's nice to see a new product that seems to be good quality and easy to use. The nice part is that on one hand, it is easy to use, but still give you some controls to adapt it to your needs. Also glad that your dog is doing better. I was sad to see what happened. I send you all the good thoughts that I can.

The Aquarium Co Op light has a significant advantage over the Fluval Plant 3.0 for 29 gallon tanks (any 30 inch tank): the Aquarium Co Op light comes in a 30 inch size. The Fluval only has a 24" - 34" model. So, less coverage. The Aquarium Co Op light (for 30" tanks) has 26" of coverage. The Fluval is much less.

Glad your doggo is getting better! I have 2 aquarium co-op lights. One on my 20 long and in my new 40 gallon breeder. Love them dearly. Both hooked up to kasa timers and they work great

I dont have access to these (I'm in the EU) but it is still really great to see these kinds of comparisons. I have to be really budget conscious myself, and lights are a space where I feel like I pay a LOT because I'm in a niche hobby, but also most of them are overkill for the aquariums I like to keep. It's like there's no real middle option anymore like I feel like there was ten or twelve years ago when I was last in the hobby. Good looking doggo and she looks like she's recovering well for the time, I agree! She also looks like the type of dog who will take care of her rehab almost on her own; nice natural activity level!

The Aquarium Co-Op light is great. I added a smart plug and for the money you can't beat it. I really like to ability to change in intensity of my light. In my planted 75 gallon community tank I leave it at 60%.

I've had the 36 inch co-op light for a few months and I really like it. I am the target audience though. Easy is the most important feature for me, and I'm not keeping any super high light plants.

Thanks for the update! Keep on keeping on Bentley! As for the lights I think they will be fine for most plants and set ups. For me though I just can't get away from chihiros. Seeing fish natural color and plants natural color is just too important to me. I help ease my mind on the premium price by using services like sezzle or klarna 😆

Glad you've done this review. I've got two nano tanks and I'm using two coop lights (12" and 16"). I even have a fluval nano that I've got sealed in a box I never opened because the Coop light is much more convenient (setting up, installation etc). I'm also probably going to get another one for the tank I set up with my dad because he doesn't like downloading apps (he doesn't trust technology, spyware, etc)

36 gallon bow front is 30 inches long. And 16 1/2 inches deep. And actually are kind of cheap. Maybe think of that in the space you have.

So I have a more unconventional option for your 31.5"x18" filing cabinet top. How about 3 x 5.5Gs placed horizontally? Each of those would be 16" x 8.5". The challenge would then be to aquascape so that you've got more depth rather than length. I have my 5.5G oriented that way, and I end up making use of suction cupped anubias, marimo balls, and floating plants to kind of make a riverbed effect. You could maybe do a riverbed in three slices. I find that a "dual sponge" filter for a 10 G, (placed at the back wall of the 5.5G), gives me enough filtration to keep it relatively low maintenance, with just enough of a current that it gently pushes the floating plants forward into the viewing area. I can also hide the media bag of crushed coral underneath the sponge filter, where it still does the job but doesn't get nearly the sightline interruption. This has proven to be a banger of a neocaridina tank, it also supports 15 tiger teddies, ~20 baby pitbull plecos I'm growing out; colonies of scuds, ramshorn snails, and bladder snails. I'm working on getting it colonized with moina as well. Detritus worms exist, and it's fun to watch the tiger teddies hunt them down. I set it up as a shrimp and scuds tank, then built up to the fish layer. What you might want to try is scaping the tanks up how you want, then filling them with pest snails and ghost shrimp to dial in your water parameters while you prepare for harder to keep stock. Then you work up from there adding more and more microfauna, until you're ready for your actual fish. You'd swap out the ghost shrimp along the way for some interesting strains of cherry shrimp, (because if the ghost shrimp are breeding well, the cherry shrimp will be fine). Here, I'd suggest skipping Scarlet Badis, (AKA everyone else's first horrible micropredator misadventure), and going for colonies of Least Killifish, Tiger Teddies, or Toothpick Fish. Each of these are interesting to watch as they emerge from your floating plants and hunt microfauna along the glass, then disappear again. You've got the occasional colorful shrimp moving past as it looks for new grazing areas. It's a very interesting and busy tank. Unless of course you make a loud noise within 5' of the tank, in which case it doesn't look like you have fish for a few minutes. Which is also cool in its own way.

Was going to add a second part to this but decided maybe to hold off until you were really sold on the idea. 2nd part idea: Then you go down to Home Depot/Lowes and pick up: a sheet of glass, silicon sealant, a glass cutter, and masking tape. You then build a King of DIY style water bridge. Now you have a 'scape in three parts that really is one whole 'scape. I suggested tiny livebearers, but I imagine that would work just as well with say furcata rainbows. Since I'd already have you working with suction cup anubias, you could probably scape the inside of the bridge with those. You could also rest pothos on top of the bridge. Have that stream 'scape with a very cool looking bank overhang element. Would be some more work, but you'd end up with a very cool scape that didn't look like anything someone else was doing.

All I grow in my main tank is guppy grass. Is this too much light for me? The alternative is a Nicrew or Hygger light from Amazon?
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 9 ай бұрын
Well since you can adjust it, it's not too much because you can bring it down to say 60 or 70% if you're pushing too much light. Or you could start at a lower percentage and slowly dial it up depending on what you feel the guppy grass needs. If you were to look at the alternative I would say the hygger over the nicrew personally because there are more cost effective hygger models with good control.

how would the 36 do on a 75 g tank? Should one go to the next size?
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 ай бұрын
I would use the next size where possible - while it should light most of the tank, you're looking about 12" of coverage that would be missing in one way or another.

Question: I was looking for a canister filter from fluval and I saw a great deal in a second hand fluval fx5 (i know its old), cheaper than fx2, 4 and 6. I have a 55g (i guess? Its a 200 liters) planted tank. Is it two strong for nano shrimps, corys, rasboras and guppies? Can i control that flow some way to avoid stressong the fish? Kind regards from portugal
@BentleyPascoe

It's hard to control the flow, but you could get the spray bar attachment they recently released to disperse the flow

@@BentleyPascoe ok. And by the way, I have co2 injection. Normally guys like green aqua always recommend lily pipes because they are more effective preventing co2 from escaping the tank, because of the flow that it creates. Will that spray bar prevent it as well?
