I have one drift wood that keeps floating. I did not boil it. I will see if I have a pot large enough. I have been soaking it for a week changing the water using hot and holding it down in the water. one end is downward and the other just pulls it up. Thanks for the video.

If you have something like a crab pot, do you think it would work to boil half then flip it to the other end and boil it ?

I got a big piece of wood like that, got it soaking in the bath in water as hot as the boiler will go with a 5kg dumbell holding it down, over night it still floats if I remove the weight but im hoping after another drain and re fill with hot water over night should do the trick, may take a few days? Gotta sink eventually though right?

I keep tannens in my wood because I use it for my caiman and want a more natrulistic approach keeping some tented color water instead of clear

I had purchased two drift woods for my 10 gal and 20 gal tank. The first one I had boiled in a pot of water for like an hour each day until I got the tannins out. Once I added to the fish tank it didn't float as much and held it down with a rock. The second took a little longer because it's a little bit bigger. I wouldn't just add hot water over the drift wood into an aquarium, it makes no sense

You could pull off getting close to boiling in a bathtub. Perhaps a hot water bath is enough. I work construction so my tubs seen worse than what will come off a log.

Had to make a custom containers out of mine,3 feet for longer drift wood.

Epson salt soaked in bathtub pinned down with rock.... We are fish keepers after all....so what's a little light scrubbing in the tub

If if doesnt sink after awhile, use stainless steel screws and screw it to slate rock and cover the rock with substrate 🤘🤘

I've boiled a piece 3 times it still floats like a dove.

I've used a masonry bit to drill a hole through a heavier rock, and ran a galvanized bolt

I live by the ocean and we went to a restaurant by water and behind the restaurant was an abandoned beach and I found 2 pieces of drift wood 🪵 and I was able to boil one

I always enjoy your videos. I like your approach to the large piece of driftwood. There are probably always pollutants in a stream or river. Especially farm fertilizers and insecticides. The thing is that a piece of driftwood is not a sponge for collecting pollutants. It probably will have some but they didn't go into the wood overnight and probably will not leach out overnight. If you are doing regular water changes I would say it probably will not be a problem. You are a lot like me. If I see something in the stream bed I can use in my aquarium the advantages outweigh the risk within reason. If for example, I find a cool-looking rock when I am digging around in the garden it is getting washed off and added to the tank. I have been doing this since I was a kid and I am an old man now. I have never had bad luck doing this. I have never been an expert in geology but it only makes sense to stay away from things like limestone. With a little common sense, there are lots of things out in nature that a hobbyist can find for free and have a good time out in the woods back at the stream bed. In my opinion, the risk is minimal while the gain way outweighs the risk. The aquarist who has never gone to the woods and streams to find these treasures is missing half of the fun of the hobby.

I live on a lake and been seeing logs in the water for a couple years finally today I pulled a few out I think one was a root it's a cork screw with rocks imbeded into the wood it looks sick! One I found I'm going to use in my tank I got it soaking in bleach right now (I'm pretty sure it's fine I bleached rocks that had aptasia anemones in the past and put them back with corals but maybe it soaks in the wood so idk for sure) then I'm going to boil it as it looks like it will help it sink and will probably get any bleach out. I used lead strips to weigh down wood, then remove them when I think it won't float. Just coil it around both ends, simple 😊

You cut it up, boil it and be a real aquascaper and glue it back together! Easy, no safety issues and no weird waiting stage!
