"Gangster Rap" started here. And by here I mean Killadelphia Pistolvania, 215 is the area code, for those not in the know. But yeah, Schooly D was on some street shit first! Philly was the first to do a lot of things, just rarely gets the credit for it. Perfect example is it always cracked me up when I hear people talking about how syrup aka lean started down South. Not hardly, cats were drinking that shit in Philly in the 60s, not that its something to be proud about, but in the interest of being historically accurate, 17th and Jefferson sold that shit before these guys rapping about it were even born. I'm talking 30 years before they were born! When I was a kid they called it "lick shots", and any old head from Philly can tell you all about it. That pancakes and syrup shit (xanax and syrup) was everywhere in Philly since way back, and it still is. You wanna read about some real gangster shit, look up Philadelphias Black Mafia, and I'm not talking about JBM, they weren't around until the 80s, Aaron Jones and them dudes were definitely a force to be reckoned with in Philly during their reign, but I'm talking about Sam Christian, Ron Harvey and them guys. There's a book called Black Brothers Inc. about them guys, and they were the real fuckin deal! Gangsters in other cities were TERRIFIED of them dudes! I'm talking Kingpins all across America, wanted NO PARTS of what these Philly guys were doing, believe that! A lot of criminal organizations kill their rivals, but most of them don't behead people, and put the head on s spike outside of a bar that other gangsters frequent to send them a message, but the Black Mafia did just that! These guys were like something out of a Horror movie! Philly always has been, and always will be a dangerous City, with a style all its own. Its indescribable, you'd have to be from here or spend some time here to understand that. But if you choose to visit......do so carefully, stick to the tourist attractions, go see the Liberty Bell, and the Constitution and all that good stuff, just don't go wandering off away from Center City. Because in every direction, N, S, E, W, away from the big money, preppie, hipster spots, are neighborhoods where you can easily lose your life! Thank me later...
