Everyone fights about how arabs and thoroughbreds are so much better than the other one! But really it depends on the horse. My horse is a Thoroughbred and I love him to death! He is amazing at jumping and running and is just an overall sweetheart! But I like this little 14.2hh arabian that I ride everyone summer and she awesome, hotblooded and super fun to run and jump! They are both amazing. The main reason I like thoroughbreds better is just because I like tall horses but I would get and Arabian in a heartbeat! So quit fighting about which is better. Because everyone has their own opinion.

+Cheyenne Vowell Your comment made me look to my horse's ashes, and suddenly miss him so very much. Oh how I miss my paint! Amazing horse, so very smart and reliant. I recall this time we were in the mountains on a trail ride, and all of us decided to wade into the water with our horses. When the other riders' jumped off their horses, and into the water, their horses joined the herd of riders' that didn't go into the lake. When I jumped off mine, he waited loyally there, then when I called out to him, he swam out to me in the lake and I rode on his back while he swam. That is an experience I'll never forget and will always smile at. All horses are valued, and loved (or should be!) without them, we wouldn't be where we are today. I am forever thankful to the quiet kindness that horses have given us.

+Cheyenne Vowell That's right. It depends on what you use them for. They are both awesome trail horses. I love all horses!
@ceri6788 жыл бұрын
+Thatottbteddy True! It also depends on the rider, and on what the horse was bred for, so bloodlines and such. On average arabs are used a lot for long distance races (endurance) and thoroughbreds for shorter distance races. Doesn't mean the individual arab can't be faster than an individual thoroughbred. :) I think the purpose of this video was just to show the fun and the messing around, I really enjoyed it!
@linsioux2178 жыл бұрын
Ceri I agree! I do Endurance and love those scrappy Arabs. But my Thoroughbred was great on the trail. Arabs have a larger heart and lungs of any other horse. They are minus a vertebrata and they have smaller bones but they are denser than other breeds. A light breed so their recovery time at Vet checks is short. Time counts so you want a horse that comes down fast (pulse & respiration) Their tails flip up naturally and this helps cool them down. These are reasons Arabs do really well in long distance riding.

Arabians are the original racehorse. Though they may not have been specifically 'bred' for racing, when people got bored 3,000-5,000 years ago, what did they do besides make babies? Raced horses. The thoroughbred is HEAVILY influenced by the Arabian (see Godolphin Arabian), and thus the purest horse breed in the world helped make the fastest horse in the world. The Arabian, with its superior genetics, temperament, intelligence, grace, and stamina has aided in influencing EVERY SINGLE light horse breed in the world. They truly are God's horses!
@Criderq9 жыл бұрын
Allie Wilde atually, theres no arabian influence in the Akhal teke horse. i prefer Akhal tekes over arabians, much prettier and are fast as hell too.
@happygardener11269 жыл бұрын
Allie Wilde The thoroughbred owes it's bloodlines to more than just Arabians. They also originated from Barbs and the extinct Turkomen, both also well known for their speed, hardiness and stamina.
@allietorongeau40299 жыл бұрын
Arabians are the most beautiful horses ever to walk this earth. I don't care about speed. The Arabian intelligence and gentleness is unmatched, and there's no other breed that children are allowed to show per USEF in stallion. They make the best mounts for any age, and have nothing but a desire to please. I won't own any other breed! Nothing but the original and the best for me and my family!
@Criderq9 жыл бұрын
Allie Wilde i dont think arabians are the most beautiful at all. their noses look like someone slammed a hammer up their face, some show arabs look more like giraffes than horses(and that while i normally like long necks, some of the necks of the arabians just look weird), and they kinda look like ponies, and their are not Always ment for every age because they can have hot temper
@allietorongeau40299 жыл бұрын
False. Clearly you've never worked with Arabians. And if USEF allows children under 18 to show stallions (the only breed they allow to do so), that clearly speaks volumes. And some of them do have very dished faces, and I prefer less dished. But they are the smartest breed, and the oldest domesticated breed. There's no disputing that at all.
@vermillionskye32989 жыл бұрын
After having an OTTB for 7 years, I don't think I could ever own anything else. There's something about their fire and intelligence that I love. Mine is level-headed enough to be ridden tackless, and he is also road safe, but he is in no way a lazy boy. We ride in the Appalachians for a week every summer and love going XC. He certainly doesn't allow you to let your guard down, which is good for keeping people on their toes. I've found that with the right training, they can do just about anything.

Kristie Kunkle ^goob, bumpy goob Arabians are known for their ability to cover very long distances faster than other breeds although I have read that the Athel Teke (sp?) is also a great marathon runner. For shorter distances from two miles down to five or six furlongs it would be the thoroughbred and for a quarter mile or less the quarter horse. Of course, the quarter horse is freely crossed with thoroughbreds and can still be registered as a quarter horse, and thoroughbreds were distantly crossed with Arabians.

The first horse I’ve ridden for a long time (4 years) was an Arab. He was amazing. He was a total school master, and he taught me how to ride correctly, and he was 32 years old the last time I rode him! He was 34 years only when he died. The only other horse who’s taught me so much was an Off the Track Thoroughbred, who taught me how to ride a horse, and not a pony. I can’t say which horse is better, even if the Thoroughbred would’ve won a race. They were both amazing, and even though I loved the Thoroughbred so much more than the Arab, I cannot say which is better, because they simply can’t be compared to one another
@geoffroberts11269 жыл бұрын
It's more than just speed and endurance. On that subject, most of the time, the TB will be faster over a short(er) distance, say, two miles or so. After that, the Arab will still be going long after most TBs run out of puff. But there are other factors as well, for instance, Arabs generally have very hard, strong feet, so in some kinds of terrain, they don't need to be shod. TBs sometimes have feet that good, but in my experience they usually don't - unless they are Anglo-Arabs - which gives you the best of both worlds in some ways. But what they are legendary for is their hardiness. When Bonaparte made his ill advised attempt to conquer Russia and found himself and his Grand Armee in retreat from the Russians (and the Russian winter) they lost nearly all their remounts - by the time the tattered remnants got home, most of the horses had died along the way - of the ones that survived, nearly all were Arabs.

I agree but the civilized world has weakened the true original Arab, the deserts still have them, and the passionate true crab Arabian breeders..

Quarter horse will beat out both in the first quarter mile, but then they quickly lose their steam and the TB will pull ahead. And I think if they *kept* going, a true Arab would eventually pull ahead of the TB and win out by their sheer endurance alone. (And the quarter horse will be taking a nice nap somewhere lol)

Cathy24601 Thanks Cathy, I understand that but I was meaning the actual TB in this video, its looks quite araby compared to the average TB to me.
@Cathy246018 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing but it's probably just the particular bloodline and the rider. It has really flared nostrils and its head is kind of dished. Also they are really just playing so it looks different than if it had been at a full gallop and not just messing around.
@scarletpeoni93478 жыл бұрын
Maybe. I don't know about how the rider could make it look Araby though? I was thinking its head like you say but also its tail and general carriage.

My friend, who had an OTTB, and I, with my Polish Arab, set up a race going up a dirt road. For a while we were neck and neck, and then my friend started pulling away. I ducked my head and just whispered "Go!" and my boy took off like a bat out of Hell. We streaked by them, I heard her say, "Holy shit!" as we flew by and I did not see her again until we were waiting for them at the top. That was so much fun, we were laughing so hard. That Arab of mine had two gallops, fast and blinding fast (so fast you could not see...the wind was hitting your face so hard). He was a Naborr grandson, that side of the family tree did race. He was the fastest horse I have ever ridden.

Great Video, for the people who don't know that thoroughbreds are half Arabians, they were bred to have the stamina that the Arabian has. therefore the thoroughbreds cant last long as on the other hands arabians can go for miles as they were created for war back in the days without getting tired as easy because their short back and the history behind it to back it up. either way im happy for both horses as they are as they both got the arabian blood and spirit in them both. thanks for the video. cheers.

I live in Redcar where this video was shot, the beach is fab for riding on. I also have an Arab who can fly, he's my second one and my first was pure Egyptian of the Ansata bloodline and he could keep up and overtake racehorses that were younger than him. Most horse people I know dismiss Arabs and wouldn't have one, they are missing out and usually don't have the intelligence or patience to get the best out of them. I have ridden warmbloods, Welshies you name it none of them compare and are quite dull compared with my Arab.

Arabs breed to heavy English mares.
@vernonfrance29749 жыл бұрын
Aaron Kennaugh I read that some of the mares were also of North African, Arabian Peninsula origin as well.
@universalradio9 жыл бұрын
Vernon France Three stallions originated the Thoroughbred. Darley Arabian, Godolphin Barb, and the Byerley Turk. Bred to heavier English mares. One of them was accidental, I think the Darley ? He was used to "tease" mares before breeding to regular stallions, but one mare showed such a preference for him, that they let the breeding go ahead. The result was a really fast racehorse - so it wasn't as if the Brits knew what they were doing or anything.
@vernonfrance29749 жыл бұрын
Bridget B You are so right Bridget. A lot of successes in animal husbandry are accidental. The Morgan horse was born small and stout but turned out to be fast and strong and even a very good harness horse which helped in the development of the standardbred. I was not meaning to imply the Brits are brighter or better horsemen, just that they were the first to develop a superior race horse. I have watched races all my life and I often wonder why the breeders have gone toward shorter, stronger animals. I have decided it is because they are more precocious and so many of the most prestigious races are for three year olds. This is contrasted with Zenyatta, a huge mare which became an outstanding success at longer distances. Then when it came time to breed her instead of using another large stallion such as, for example, Tiznow, they go for the shorter type like Bernstein and Tapit. I want them to develop huge horses, relatively speaking, like Forgo and Rock Hard Ten. They would clean up when they enter the older handicap division where the precocious ones have already gotten injured or run out of steam.
@procion20096 жыл бұрын
Actually it was the godolphin and the mares name was Roxanne and not all three stallions were arabians.

I do like both, but since reading and watching "the black stallion" I absolutely adore Arabian horses. (No mention necessary that TB in their form today wouldn't exist without their arabian bloodline). The speed of a TB is classy, but Arabians were born to race in the sand, to fulfill their riders needs under extreme high temperature conditions and for persistency. Their history is mystical, they are the proud of the proud families of the desert. Real characters, hot headed but sensible and loyal and cool goddess at the same time. "Takers of the wind" , the ones "God took a breath of the winds from the south and born was the horse". To me they are strong, humble, free, playful, proud, beautiful, intelligent and represent everything I love about horses.

The Arab is one of the toughest horses alive and was bred for endurance racing. The Arab people have raced the Arab horse across the desert for thousands of years. The Thoroughbred is an amazing creature that is likely more versatile than we give them credit for. They of course were bred for racing , but unfortunately are over bred in numbers with vast majority that can run going to the processing plants.
