Arabba - Portavescovo: the best of spring skiing in the Dolomites

4 ай бұрынAbsolutely! This year's ski season finale in the Dolomites was epic. With an abundance of snow, we had to pivot to our Plan B. Our original plan? Powder skiing in Marmolada. But, as fate would have it, it was closed due to avalanche risks - a rare occurrence here. Thus, we turned our sights to Arabba-Portavescovo, a stunning north-facing ski area, and savored every moment to the fullest.
This might have been the most I've ever skied in this area, and it was incredible. The slopes remained perfect all the way until our ski back home at Ustaria Posta, with the highlight being some phenomenal powder skiing at the summit.
Our adventure didn't stop there; we made our way to Padon for a breathtaking view of Marmolada and to pay homage to the old Padon chairlift one last time before it's replaced by a new 6-seater this summer. We're already nostalgic for the old lift.

Hi Igor & family, yet another lovely trip out to make us jealous here in Yorkshire England, where we've had the wettest 6 months in living memory, and it's still raining!! It was great as always to ski in January and to have lunch at Ustaria Posta and chat to you with Ady & Julie. Loved the subsequent video you alluded to on your "mono-skis"! I have to say we won't miss the slow, windy, cold, old Padon lift next winter, thank you for that news. I see the season has closed today and it's too warm to ski now, so you'll be on the bikes soon and we'll follow your adventures through the year until we arrive back in Badia. Der Umbau war schon letztes Jahr geplant aber der Frühling 2023 war so Schneereich und die Schneeschmelze so lang das sie dann die Arbeiten verschoben haben.

Just imagine that the plan to change it was already during last summer 2023 but there was so much snow still in June and snow melting started so late that they couldn’t do it on time.

Io sono lo sciatore del secondo tipo. Mia moglie e figlie quasi del primo tipo... Bel video, grazie per la condivisione. La prima volta che sono stato a Porta Vescovo (il venerdí della gita con la scuola sci) c'era la tormenta tanto che il maestro ha telefonato agli impianti per sapere se erano aperti. Dicendo che ho rischiato la vita esagero, peró é stata sicuramente un'avventura dato che era solo la fine della mia seconda settimana bianca. Attrezzatura inadeguata, io inadeguato, meteo inadeguato...

Ihr habt so ein Glück mit dem Schnee!!! Schade, das es schon aus ist.... Ewig Schade um den alten Padon Lift!!!!! Ich habe ihn geliebt, weil es noch was ALTES war. Nachteil wird sein, das man noch länger bei der Marmolada steht!

I was thinking about going to Arabba for spring skiing but instead decided to take the safe bet and went to Cervinia. There was plenty of good snow on Plan Maison and Valtournenche. Maybe next time I'll try Dolomites.

Cervinia is an amazing area, you just need to be lucky with weather or you are stuck one full week in a hotel 😁

Bellissime riprese (come al solito), prediligo la "neve invernale" ma in questa occasione vi ho invidiato non poco, direi che c'era pochissimo traffico in pista anche meno rispetto all'apertura a dicembre. Sí diciamo che grazie al poco afflusso di gente la neve a primavera tiene anche molto di piú che ad inizio stagione. Alla fine gobbe e solchi si formano solo con gli sciatori.

Amazing video!! Watching your videos makes me think about skiing in the Dolomites next year. Which resort do you think is the best to stay at, for an intermediate/advanced couple who doesn't care much about après ski? The most important thing would be the accommodation and the most favorable location for sella ronda, grande guerra

You guys still have a lot of snow! I went skiing at Aspen Mountain about 2 weeks ago and the top 2/3 rds of the mountain was quite good but the bottom was heavy cement-snow. Impossible to turn in. Not as good as Alta Badia though.

Yeahhh many US friends are saying that in the US snow condtions have not been good this year. Maybe next season it will be the opposite. Who knows ....

Ho letto ora la descrizione...come sarebbe a dire che sostituiranno la bellissima (anche se scomodina) seggiovia biposto del Padon?? Una delle ultime seggiovie vecchio stampo che rimanevano, bella in salita e talvolta quasi paurosa...ma bellissima!!! Anche la stazione in legno a valle molto carina, credo che verrà messa nuova anche quella 😢 Un abbraccio

Hallo Igor und Familie. Wie immer ein sehr cooles und informatives Video. Ich bin immer davon ausgegangen daß der Padon „Gartenstuhl“ bewußt wegen der geringeren Windanfälligkeit so belassen wurde. Ich bin ja gespannt wie sich das da entwickelt. Das Nadelöhr wird dann voraussichtlich der „entschleunigende“ zweier von der Mittelstation werden. Oder ist da etwa auch eine Veränderung geplant? Die Darstellung der Profis und Anfänger verleitet zum Schmunzeln. Vielen Dank. Liebe Grüße vom Flachlandtiroler aus Berlin

Der 2-er Col de La Vegla wird noch so bleiben. Der Nadelöhr is so gewollt um die Zufuhr auf die Seilbahn in Malga Ciapela zu limitieren. Sonst würde man dort 3 Stunden Schlange stehen. Es wird aber bald eine Gondel von Malga Ciapela bis Capanna Bill gebaut. Somit wenn die Schlange zu lang ist kann man zurückfahren mit der Gondel.

Professionista 😉 Super la sostituzione di quella vecchia seggiovia, ma non pensi che dovrebbero sostituire anche la seggiovia di Sass de la Vegla per evitare quelle lunghe file in direzione Marmolada?

Sass de la Vegla é pensata così. Come cono di bottiglia per evitare che ci sia il collasso totale alla funivia di Malga Ciapela. Prima di sostituire Sass de la Vegla costruiranno l’ovovia che da Malga Ciapela riporta a Capanna Bill. In questo modo in caso di code impossibili per la Marmolada si può ritornare verso il Padon.

Lo sci é sempre uno sport immersi nella natura, anche se poi solo grazie ad artefatti artificiali. Quindi in natura ci si deve adattare, é cosí ... comanda lei.

Wäre doch mal interessant ,wie schnell ihr so die Pisten runterbrettert 🤭🎿🎿. Rückwärts fahren 🤪, als wäre es das normalste von der Welt. Da bekommt man gleich nochmal Lust eine Woche ins Gardertal zu fahren. Und wie immer ,nichts los auf den Pisten 🙃Herrlich Der Schluss ist lustig gemacht 🙈🙈aber leider auch wahr 🤷♂

Belllissimo video,Igor(ti do del Tu anche perche' ne faccio 71 il prossimo 28...). Mi piace sempre quando vi vedo tutti e quattro insieme. Quanta neve ha fatto fra Marzo ed Aprile,tutta quella che non ha fatto a Gennaio,credo. Sugli OMG sono d'accordissimo con te,ma la gente ancora non capisce che ''l'informazione'' non informa.
