Assalamu alaikum is actually a Du'a for the person or people you're speaking to. A beautiful way to say Hello! Masha'Allah. The brother is correct using mar'haba as hello instead is more slang. Ahlan wa sahlan is welcome (as a warm greeting), but obviously depends on the country you're from. Why classical Arabic and modern standard are the best ways to learn how to speak to almost every Arabic speaker, with exception of Morocco (no offense intended).

I will give you Arabic examples that may help you in learning the Arabic language First example /كل قرد في عين أمه غزال Pronounced :kelo kirdin fi ayni omihi gazale the meaning :Every monkey in the eye of its mother a deer It means that every woman is beautiful in his mother's eye, so do not be deceived by yourself (。◕‿◕。) The second example /حين تذبل الوردة لن يحزن عليها إلا من غسرها To pronounce : hina tadbolo al wardato lan yahzana alayha ila man garasaha The meaning is :When a rose withers, only those who grow it will feel sad for it. 💔💔 The meaning is intended for the one who betrays his beloved, because he withers her like a rose and only her father or mother will think of her. 💔💔💔So a must to betray any human being The third example /عادت ريمة لعادتها القديمة Utters : adate rima liadatiha alkadima the meaning :Rima is back to her old habit It is meant by the person who abandons his bad habit and then returns to it Hope they benefit you 💜🌙🌸 جيد Jayed Good 🌙🌸💜💜 أحبكم 🌸🌙💜🎀 Ohibokom🌸💜💜💜 I love you 🌸💜💜💜

Hi Peryhan...it was a very good lesson...i liked it . Little complaint from me as phonetics you used are Egyptian, it is somewhat different ( pronounciation ) in our place ie east of Egypt. Anyway it was very helpful.

Three ways to say hello Marhaban does mean hello Al salam Alaykum means peace be with you, but it is a common greeting and an Arab equivalent to hello And 'ahlan which also means hello

Having read the comments, I tend to agree... there is no breakdown of the words for people like me (UK english) and speaking a wee bit too fast. And, as noted, please be clear on what dialect this and I even i know a classic Arabic greeting is generally translated as "peace be with you" not hello... same kind of mistakes are made by people teaching other foreign language. We do need the literal translation as well as the intended meaning...

Thank you for the help you have given me. The few words made me connect with both students (who practiced English on their turn) and adults. Egyptian Arabic is slightly simpler, however it gave me a good start. Thank you again!

She speaks very fast. It would be nice if she could speak slowly and break down every word so we can hear how to pronounce it well. I can hardly pronounce what she is saying because she says it so fast. I would suggest that she first says it slowly and then fast. Thank you

Very true, Shasmida Eiases. Way too fast for foreigners to try to even try grasp the pronunciation. The idea of her pronouncing twice (slowly and then normal/fast) is an excellent one!

Depending on what you want, but modern standard Arabic MSA will give access to ppl as well books whereas dialect is limited geographically and also everything other than conversation in that region

Southern Levantine Arabic. I was only in Yaffa, Ramallah, Yeriha, and al-Quds, but is it really so segregated you don’t have Arab friends and neighbors who you can learn from? Like a Californian asking what dialect of Spanish he should learn. The answer’s Mexican btw. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Arabic
