JG wrote it for his mother who passed away, and this is almost like a prayer about how, while they had a difficult relationship, she still misses her and one day they'll be together again. I'm Mexican and it's very common to hire mariachi bands to play this song at funerals. A lot of mariachi bands gathered outside Staples Center in Los Angeles and played this song when Kobe Bryant passed away. It's something about our Mexican culture where music is the best vehicle to express our feelings, even the sad ones.

My parents went on vacation when I was a child and we stayed with my grandma for like a week. It was so boring and all my creature comforts were replaced with old lady stuff. We couldn’t watch our cartoons or anything. I missed my mom so much I was so homesick. One night, I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep. Down the hall my grandma was listening to this song in the living room and I just started crying. The sadness in his voice and my loneliness overtook my soul. One of the loneliest times in my life.
