1,281,414 DPS WIZARD: Thaumaturge vs Arcanist (single target) Best Setups for Damage! - Neverwinter

Wizard recently had some adjustments, particularly nerfs on the Thaumaturge side, so people are questioning the viability of Arcanist. Here I compare my controlled damage tests of both paragons with multiple different setups! This should ultimately show you what you should be using to maximize your single target damage on Wizard to be the most effective at your role in those Boss fights!
Dps Test Rules:
- buffer artifact
- about 90k IL
- all 90% offense stats
- batiri, minsc, knight and rage of flames
- encounter collar
- 3,000 mag mount, no vecna
- blood lust
- life lessons
- No other damage buffs allowed outside of class powers
- Use only a companion enhancement for stats, no debuff
- No damage belt item
- 3 minutes plus, duration

Also, arcanists benefits from low hp bosses with desintegrate, it maybe a tiny amount, but it's an increase in your final dps. In your test you don't seem to reach the point where disintegrate bonus would kick in

Solo player here, just doing campaigns and occasional group later when I get higher level..I'm guessing it doesn't matter which I choose but I do want more AoE and crowd control if that's actually possible in Nevewinter..seems like everything just runs around and ends up in your face beating on you.

I never noticed how good and unique class feature and feats are in this game. I mean the YT titans of the game made so we dont do wrong powerups but still...yah props man.

You mean, WIZARD feats. Because a lot of the other classes don’t have this much depth at all when it comes to feats

with all respect after module 15 you spend 70percent less time to make a build and it is so easy that you can do for each class one good build in one week! we only have 1 line class feats and 1 line paragon feats

So I noticed that you said to start off with scorching first but you also had magic Missile so on PC you can switch at Will's or you can load I mean you can set up three different at Wheels because on PlayStation 5 or 4 we can't do that we can only slot two at Will's chilling cloud and magic missiles just trying to figure out how to work around how to start the smolder off??

I like Arcanist for single target boss fights. Always use it for Dragon hunts...when I'm lucky enough to get the opportunity....

Instead of starting off with scorching burst could you use fanning the flames? That would replace repel. That way you could apply smolder easier. Is repel that needed? Switching out scorching burst in battle is annoying on master content. With this setup it seems the only way you're getting smolder on target is with scorching Burst.

You can just slot critical conflag instead of orb of imposition for easy smolder triggering. Repel does a lot of damage, far more than fanning so it would not be good at all to switch that

I mean what about Fireball its a 700 magnitude ST attack when slotted on Tab (Spell Mastery). It aplies Smolder to boot.

So if your not using critical conflagration why use critical burn as opposed to frigid winds???

Critical conflag is just to trigger smolder easily. Has nothing to do with critical burn. I explained why to use critical burn. Extra smolder damage and the frigid winds buff doesn't work properly

End game level dungeons/trials the more the acc the better. First u would wanna focus on max all offensive then DMG bonuses later. That's my suggestion.

The easy way is this: if you can get the same amount of accuracy as damage buff, then take the damage buff. Eg, 7.5% vs 7.5% then take that as damage.

You just need to not hurt the group with your repeal, dont only smash buttons mate, think of what are you doin

You can reply control immune enemies and they don't go anywhere, just take damage, like bosses

someone else suggested it so I tested after this video a lot, and I didn't not see any increase in damage from the test I did with Orb

@Aragon- test vs the training boss don't show everything though! ...there's 2 parts to the arcane power field damage, 1 is an aoe so if there's more than one enemy as there so often is in endgame bossfights the damage will increase...also, as it triggers after a daily, if you were really pushing it in your test for those 30s dailies (which is very possible with Arcanist) then you would also see more damage from Arcane Power Field. Eg. Using the quick action mount equip, dragonhunt pants & a few other 'secret' ap sources you can get Arcanist daily down to ~30s without relying on chaos magic proc...will sacrifice your 50 x 90s but losing a bit of accuracy is more than made up by reliably having that 2nd daily ...also, only part of the apf damage will show in the log, the other part increases your mastery damage

Ray of Frost is still really good to use. The at will no longer proc's Hex but its still good. I prefer Ray of Frost over Chilling Cloud in ST. In MDM, Ray of Frost will help you make sure you are properly aiming at the Liutenants and not mobs or the Captain.

I like icy terrain on tab and drop repel for dot to back up the other powers and stick with crit conflag for that smoulder on crit hits

Hi. This makes no sense....... where does the smolder come from? You've turned off the only class feature that gives you smolder . Orb of imposition doesn't give smolder. And swath of Destruction only adds damage to smolder. It doesn't apply smolder as far as I can tell. So how do you apply the initial smolder with out scortch being turned on? All u have on is missles and cloud. Are you telling me that I have to stop in the middle of battle to switch from Scorch to chilling cloud and back??? Cause with an XBOX controller that's Fn insane. You'll be dead before you get out of the pause menu. I'm tying to make sense of the power sheet @5mins in Vid. How does smolder get applied if all of the smolder things have been turned off? I've been in the training room for 30 mins trying everything I can think of to apply smolder. Nothing works.

If you are on console and can't switch like that, then either just use critical conflagration instead of orb of imposition, or keep scorch slotted and don't use magic missile

DPS is not damage over time. That is DoT, DPS is Damage per Second. Do a full minute damage then take that total minute damage and divide by 60 to get your DPS

If you do a full minute of damage, that is damage overtime. Is not one minute and amount of time? You do know you can calculate DPS from dots, right?

Wizard is basically support now. Overall they will be easily out damaged by Bard and Rogue. The days of superiority are gone and the damage boards have shifted away to other broken classes. Sure wizard can do damage single target but they wont be competing with top classes/ players anymore.

No, they lost damage and other classes were buffed. Wizard is mediocre now. We know because we played it yo. We arent sitting in the training room hitting a boss who doesn't move. Keep selling it though.
