Thanks to the Arc team for letting me be one of the first to test out their new wakeboat!
The Arc Sport is a 23' wakeboat with a 500HP motor and a 226 kWh battery. This is Arc's second all-electric boat and is designed to give you a full day of water sport activities.
Tune in to hear my thoughts along with my interview with CEO Mitch Lee on the future of boating.
To reserve your Arc Sport, visit arcboats.com/reserve.

The collapsable tower and bow and stern thrusters are, as we would say in the 80’s, gnarly, rad and awesome! All that matters is the wave, however, so please talk more about the surf systems, ballast and actual regular vs goofy waves!

I love the idea of a electric wakeboard boat. Being a wakeboat owner I see so much potential. I would get this if I had a ridiculous amount of money available. I have a few questions on the sports side of this boat. Is there a surf gate? or how does it make a surf wave? is there a wedge for custom wake settings? The ballast tanks, where are they located and how much additional weight can be added. How about board racks? Sound system? What type of hull is used, is it a Deep V? I feel like this boat is a step in the right direction to compete with the Nautiques, Malibus and Mastercrafts, just get some wakeboarders and wakesurfers on the R&D team ;) I'll help

What it needs is a 250kw/hr DC fast chargers so if needed the boat could be charged and ready to go in an hour or so. In most cases 220v shore power will be sufficient for overnight charging. It depends on how the boat is used. Definitly a step in the right direction and it has close price parity with ICE boats in it's class

They only show AC in this vid, but you can see it has DC pins, and the CEO said that it can charge DC@250kW in another video. Granted, that's only peak power and we don't know the curve.

At about $250000 the fuel savings aren't really a factor but it is good to see a purpose built electric boat that can run long enough. About 4 hours of heavy use. The only down side is it will be a long time before you see DC fast charging at your local marina. Once the battery is depleted, you have to wait until thw next day to run it again.

Yes!! But I disagree, I think any boater is happy to save on gas and maintenance costs no matter the purchase price! It's best for a dock at home type of spot for sure
@michaelmiller6878
@michaelmiller6878 2 ай бұрын
It probably depends on the Lakes you're on. The ones I've spent the most time on all have private docks. We only go to the Marina to get fuel. If it were electric, we'd have a setup on our dock....much like charging your Tesla, and likely rarely ever go to the Marina again. I certainly wouldn't say gas isn't a factor. We've spent between 3-5k per year running it seasonally. Still a big operating cost. I've read you can install a DC Fast charger for between 10-40k. This might be worthwhile for people who can afford this boat. You'd get fast charging turnaround times and it would pay for itself in gas 5-ish years. I've owned electric....range anxiety and all of that is kind of nonsense. The only real worry for me with a boat would be the overall battery life and the cost to replace them all.

@@paulsandgren8625 Makes sense. When you first get a boat, sometimes you may want to be out all day. If you keep it at a lake, then most people aren't going out for more than 4-5 hours of skiing and playing. Seems like these could threaten traditional ski boats. Not sure I'd want to invest that much in a first generation model though.

The main boat builders of wake boats already have electric boats in the market. They are already years behind the main ski market with an unproven boat. To say it’s not like a boat she has driven before you can tell she isn’t use to ski boats. All the options she said the big three don’t have is false they have it all. The boat looks like an epic. Which they also were I believe the first fully electric ski boat and also a Cali company.

The kwh usage is pretty vague. I'd like to know the kwh/mile (or kwh/hour) and at 20mph (typical wake speed) and at 25mph (optimal plane?) and even at 10mph (just so you'd know if you could get home if you're running low on fuel). Also, charging at the dock sounds great but in reality you'd be lucky to get level2 or better without spending a ton of money on equipment. So this equates to a couple days to charge from 10-90% (~150kwh). Forget about back to back full days.

so the battery is what 250kw, and whats the consumption? it seems youd have maybe 45 minutes at 350kw/hr consumption since its 500hp? if thats the case 4 hours is a lie. at that rate 25 minutes of full throttle and your getting towed in.

@@jesperbgeholm9582 That's mostly media hype. If well contained and built, it's rarely a factor. Every Tesla that crashes and has a fire is on TV. Combustion batteries cause many more fires than EV's on a per vehicle basis. Boat fires can be a big deal. Most are already electrical in nature (prior to these electrically powered boats). It seems this new breed has a lot into packaging the battery, compared to existing and older boats. I'd assume it's less risk than more risk in total, comparative to the car comparison.

@@Zak-nv1tl not even close, it's simple math with electric, it has a 226kw battery, in order for it to last 6 hours you need to average around 37kw per hour which is around 50hp, there's no way you are doing any wake/tow sports activities on a boat this big and heavy with only 50hp, not even close! And this is assuming 100% efficiency and also doesn't account for the fact that the usable battery capacity is locked to around a little over 200kw...
