What other pockets in the front will your phone fit in? What all can you fit in the main back compartment. Deciding between this, the 14 liter and the Solomon Adv skin 12 set. Thank you!

The 14 litre has exactly the same pockets in front. The thing the 14ltr is missing to me is a mesh pouch on the back. I created something for holding a rain jacket, for example, by putting some stretchy cords on the back (that's the 14ltr). Anyway, about the front pockets, my Sony Xperia Compact fits in the top pouch, either side (they're the same) or the side pouch (either side, they're the same). I still like the top pouch for phone, other side for Delorme or bottle of Perpetuem or 2 tubes of Hammer Solids. Side pouches for wallet, gels, collapsible silicone cup, and lip balm. In the 7 ltr interior pouch, I keep small bugspay, small suncreen, flint, flagging tape, small pencil. In the outside mesh pouch on the 7ltr, I keep a big first aid kit (snake bandages, etc) and my mini-Sawyer. I can put a rainjacket in there, too, and a sandwich for the looooong runs :) The 7ltr mesh is so stretchy that I was able to carry all the mandatory gear for Transalpine Run 2018 each day, plus some of my partner's mandatory gear (e.g., her arm warmers, her gloves, some of her food). The 14ltr was my pack for fastpacking the Swiss Alps this year. You might find those photos on my blog post helpful.

Could the 7L hold hats, gloves, and a layer in addition to a wind jacket strapped on the outside? If the 14 L has only a few things in it will the pack and/or contents shift around? Thank you!!

The 7ltr holds my gloves in one of the front pouches when I'm in cold weather, yes. Or in the mesh in the back. Arm warmers will fit, too. I definitely carry (in the 7ltr) when in the alps, etc - rainjacket, Icebreaker or similar gloves, arm warmers (plus Delorme, phone, fuel, etc, as I mentioned above). A beanie/toque/extra Buff. That mesh back stretches well! The 14L doesn't bounce with less in it. That was a concern of mine, too. It's fine. I work harder to squeeze things into the 7ltr because I love the quick access via the mesh pouch on the back, compared to the 14L that requires me to unclip and open. That said, sometimes I just need the extra space of the 14L.

Oh, and you asked about "an extra layer" in the 7L - I have indeed tied my Arcteryx Atom LT Hoody to the pack of the 7ltr, too! It won't fit in the mesh with everything else in there already, but it ties on the back with the elastic cords that are on the pack. Whilst in Canada this Sept/Oct, I had bear spray in one front pouch, too. I was running up to 2400m+ in snow, so needed extra layers and managed it all with the 7L.

Would be interested in your opinion on the stability of the 14l - as I ponder to get it for runs to work

I finally got my hands on the 14litre - first week of testing showed it to be very stable for trail running. My only 'wish list' point for whenever V2 comes out would be that they add a stretchy mesh outer back stash pocket for things like a windjacket, that one might be putting on and off - getting a jacket in and out of the pack in changeable conditions gets tedious.

Thanks @@BernadetteBenson I'm trying to integrate it more into my daily duties. The 14l seems like a nice fit. I know I just wouldn stand bouncing and wobbling. Which one do you think is more stable the 7 or the 14l? And would the 7 suffice for a set of sprintime to autumn office attire (the 14l would be better, right)?

@@karlbadde7435 - with no water in the hydration bladder, you could squeeze more into the 7ltr pack. You could get a set of clothes (no shoes) into the 7ltr, but it will be squeezed tight - you'll have to use the outside mesh pocket, as well. I managed to use the 7ltr as my race pack for the TransAlpine Run 7 day race and carried some of my partner's gear, too (her gloves and arm warmers, the first aid for both of us, extra fuel). The 14litre would be more comfortable to stuff full of work clothes on a daily basis, though. I can't stand bouncing at all in a pack, either. It chafes, too. Here's a photo of me with the 14ltr, with an Arcteryx jacket even hanging off the back bungy straps - I was doing a jumpy shot - and it still didn't move! It was solid. photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOHyl5HvvtT9ZMbxP65ux0zt-fixLYYWldEivyHRmw8dR0zKL1SHT0RIGAatKLBmA/photo/AF1QipOLpiHlcquREvD8VCMsTSBq18lcTcSAALm1dVqn?key=OEVTZGhmYXpidjI5WEJ5TXJqeTJrRmVBNFpPLXRn

@@BernadetteBenson Thanks a million for your opinion! I guess l'll better have a look at the 14l soon. It sounds like the rather reasonable way to go. Cheers again!

Can you put it in the washing machine? Thanks Bernadette

They say no. They say you shouldn't wash with detergents in a machine. I'm guessing really that all packs probably shouldn't be put in a machine, but not paid a lot of attention before. This one had "tags" on the pack (a first for me, I think), which I read :) I've hosed mine down with plain water a few times now and it makes a remarkable difference just to do that - all the salt stains and "crunchy" feel came out, as did the smell.
