Red Earth released in Japan as War-Zard is a fantasy themed 2D competitive fighting game released by Capcom as a coin-operated video game in 1996. It was the first game for Capcom's CP System 3 hardware, the same hardware which Street Fighter 3 and its derivatives ran on. As of 2019, Red Earth is the only CPS 3 video game which has never been officially ported to home platforms, although its characters have appeared in later Capcom games. Red Earth takes place on an alternate version of Earth sometime in the 14th century (the Japanese version states a post -apocalyptic 1999 however) where the world did not experience any technological revolutions of Renaissance and was still in a medieval/mythological state. A new country has risen by the evil Scion, who sends out various monsters to take over the world. Four heroes emerge to defend Earth. The character select screen, from left to right: Tessa, Leo, Mai-Ling and Kenji.

Amazing game. Never knew about that one. Capcom made the best tournament fighting style games, specially talking about megalomania. Some characters in some games are a perfect mix of the aesthetical greatness of the classicism with the chaotic nature of the surrealism.

It's shame that this game never received a home port. It would have done very well for the Dreamcast and probably would have kept it alive longer. Edit: After 26 years of being an arcade exclusive, Red Earth is finally going to have an official home port release!!!!

Finally watched a playthrough of this game. One ongoing lifebar & leveling up were interesting. Castle exterior near the end was quite the background. Creative end credits. :) Thanks for posting.

Leo would have been really cool in a crossover fighting game like Marvel Infinite, a shame that Capcom would rather push crappy reboot Spencer over anyone legitimately cool.

Saw this in some arcades, but never got to play it. I think it'd do well with a home console release (and also on PC) with the right marketing push. Seems like a very well made game. Definitely visually appealing for sure.

at 2:55, that pose was from Arnold's Conan the Barbarian... this was right after Valeria defended Conan from being taken by demons. Conan was looking at his hand on the beach and did this pose! just saying...

Red Earth never got an anime that I'm aware of. As for Power Stone, I believe it got an English dubbed release in Canada, but never got syndicated here in the US (and frankly it must have been a limited run because NOBODY has spoken of it).

Taking on the final boss with only a bronze sword and a wooden shield takes some balls - and we almost saw them, thanks to that skimpy loincloth.

I agree with many of these comments. Once we got to many bits we actually lost a lot of artistic design. It’s not how much you have it’s what you can do with what you have because many 90s games period just look absolutely gorgeous!!!! And I think it was a tragedy to just give up on 2d and 2.5d games. Many many games would be so much better if they had not ran to 3d so quickly...

Am I the only one who thinks a 2D Monster Hunter fighting game styled like this would work like bread & butter? Imagine fighting the likes of a Rathalos or even a Zinogre with that kind of gameplay, all weapon sets and the like. I'd play something like that in a heartbeat~
