IMPORTANT! !!!! Dont ever use Windex or Glass cleaners on any plastic. It will give it a burn and make it fog over, in just a short time. Use a monitor screen cleaner or the pre soaked towlets.

I know ita an old video but ill take any advice i can get. I jave a House of the Dead 1 with 2 Happ guns. They work fine for probably firat half of the game then start going wonky. Completely off grid. A restart of the game (power off/on) will fix it? What is wrong?
@arcaderepairtips
@arcaderepairtips 2 ай бұрын
Seems more like a power or game board issue since the problem occurs with both light guns at the same time. Try checking the voltage when the light guns start going “wonky” to see if it’s still within range. Check the connections on the I/O board to make sure it’s connected properly to the light guns and the main board. If you continue to have issues after trying these suggestions, you might try contacting Ken at irepairsega.com as he as a lot of experience with Sega games in general. We will also be covering your question on our Live Show Episode 88. Here's a link to the episode if you want to watch it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obaRhsibvLjbo6M.html

I just bought a lethal enforcer arcade and im having a slightly different issue with the guns , when you pull the trigger the screen flashes and it shows you shot a bullet but the shot doesnt register anywhere on screen , also you cannot reload , when you shoot off screen the screen flashes and doesnt reload , have you ever seen this issue before if so what could it be , also both guns were replaced by the last owner in an attempt to fix the issue , any input is greatly appreciated
@arcaderepairtips
@arcaderepairtips Жыл бұрын
Since the light guns have been replaced, we are going to assume that they are functioning properly. Let’s start off by making sure that the light guns are connected correctly to the game board. If you look at the wiring schematic in the manual (bit.ly/lethal-enforcers-manual), you will notice that there are 4 wires that connect from the light gun to the game board: Hit, Ground, Trigger, and Voltage. Make sure that these wires are connected to the proper locations and that the wiring is in good shape. Check the continuity of the wires with a multimeter to ensure that this is the case. You might want to touch up the solder on these pins to the game board as well as they tend to become loose over time. We would also recommend checking the power supply and turning up the brightness on the monitor to see if that helps the issue. If you have any additional questions, you can reply back to this comment or join us for our Live Show Episode 75 on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 5:30 PM CT on KZfaq as we will be covering your question during the show. Not 100% sure that this is compatible with your model but it does have 3 pins and is used by a variety of optical gun boards: na.suzohapp.com/products/optical_guns/OP805SL

Can I add a solenoid to a game that didn't originally have one?
@arcaderepairtips
@arcaderepairtips 3 жыл бұрын
So, Suzo/Happ did sell a recoil gun kit that would allow you to add a "kick" solenoid to light gun games that didn't initially support it. Here's a link to this product: bit.ly/happ-recoil-kit. Unfortunately, it looks like they are currently out of stock and we haven't been able to find another supplier for this item. We'll keep looking and let you know if we find some in stock. We will also be covering your question on our Live Show Episode 53 on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 5:30 PM CT. late answer, lightguns only work on crt tvs and depends on a crt monitor may or may not work. Lcd screens are not compatible.

There is a lot of incorrect info in this. Have to question if this guy really even knows how these actually do work. Infra-red has nothing at all to do with it. No "beam" comes out of the gun. The light sensor in the gun is sensitive to light, and almost always blue light. Turning up brightness is NOT the answer and is just completely INCORRECT. Turn the brightness DOWN to get the correct black level. Then the CONTRAST UP, it is the HIGH END that the gun sees, NOT THE LOW END. Brightness adjusts the black level, not the white level. Too much brightness not only kills black levels and contrast ratios, it can often make the gun less accurate too because essentially what you are doing is making it less of a difference between full on and full off, so the gun sees light it should not really see. If you did turn up brightness on the display when using an NES Zapper it just plain won't work at all, because it relies on a black frame before the white target box. Turn the blue high level up further, that is the only colour the guns really see and care about. They don't see red at all, and they don't really care much about green. Try it for yourself and see, disconnect the blue feed into the monitor and the gun will hardly work, if at all. Yet disconnect the red and green, leave just the blue colour, and the gun will still work, probably quite perfectly. Chances are that gun would have worked fine if they actually calibrated their monitor correctly in the first place. Someone else mentioned not using Windex, and good call too, it will wreck the plastic lens. Videos like this should come with a disclaimer, these guys clearly are not qualified to be giving these tips.

Thank you for your comments. On your concern about adjusting the brightness, we have talked with support people at several manufacturers over the years who have told us to do this during the troubleshooting process. Some light gun game arcade manuals even mention adjusting the brightness specifically (for example, see the bottom of page 3 in the Lethal Enforcers manual: ohwow-arcade.com/Assets/Game_Manuals/LETHAL%20ENFORCERS.PDF. If you have any additional tips that we should cover on this topic, please let us know so we can include them in our content. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and good luck with your future repairs.

@@arcaderepairtips i know what the manual says yes. You are misinterpreting it. The setting called "brightness" on a display device refers to black level, and what they mean by "increase brightness" is increase "contrast", which is the white level. Increasing that "brightness" pot just kills off the black level, and does NOTHING to raise the actual brightness of the bright areas on screen, which is all the gun sees, and hence, does nothing to help the gun see the raster. That should be obvious if it is known how a light gun works. The optical sensor either passes current or it does not. Adjusting the low end (brightness) offers no gain to anything, it is not bright enough for the gun to see, and the gun shouldn't be seeing light at that time anyway. Try what i said, i'll bet that even with green and red turned almost completely off, and blue gain turned up, the gun is still dead accurate. I know it will be, i've tested it. Blue is the only colour the gun really cares about. Green does almost nothing, and red light is completely ignored.
@arcaderepairtips

@@CaseTheCorvetteMan Interesting about the blue level. We were not aware of this. It sounds like when you say brightness, you are referring to the brightness/black level pot on the chassis itself. Would the same go for the brightness adjustment on the flyback? Many times, this is what we adjust when we are trying to troubleshoot light gun issues.

@@arcaderepairtips i know you're not, some of the things you say make that quite obvious to me, having spent more than 25 years calibrating and repairing CRTs before i gave it all away, and i don't expect you to know intricate details. They're complex devices. They is a significant amount to know. You should NEVER EVER be adjusting the G2 level without following the correct service manual procedure. What you have done by doing that is completely f***ed up the grid voltages, which just washes out the image and makes the contrast ratio very narrow. There are user adjustable pots for this, USE THEM. You really need to understand what the pots REALLY do before you start frigging about with things, because a lot of them have a "correct" setting, set using a procedure as defined by the manufacturer, and they are not simply "adjust it to suit yourself" settings. Often other settings rely on things like G2 being correctly set. By randomly adjusting things you throw the whole thing out. Sure, it'll work (usually), but it'll perform like shit. Be very careful randomly turning pots without complete understanding on what they do, or you'll find yourself paying someone like me to hook up a scope to set things back where they should have been.
@CaseTheCorvetteMan

Further to this, CRTs are often VERY capable display devices, even the low end units are capable of a static contrast ratio to rival all but the best digitals, but if they're calibrated wrong, they're gonna look like shit no matter where you stick that plastic screwdriver ;)
