This is a review of arcadia thermal zoo pro. The Arcadia Thermal Zoo Pro is a brand new hybrid heating and lighting system suitable for larger at home and zoological enclosures. Thermal Zoo Pro uses the very latest in Arcadia tech to project a usable and measurable basking zone beneath the fitting. It is sleek, stylish, adaptable, dependable, hand-made, linkable, affordable and future proof.
Reptiles are truly solar powered, using the power of the sun to supply the energy that they need to live, but to also maintain core biological cycles within the body, such the D3 cycle. The one thing that is abundantly clear is, that the sun is one source, with its energy pouring down upon us as terrestrial UV, visible light and terrestrial Infra-red. It is this blend of energy that reptiles (all life) have developed to use, therefore it is vital for us as effective keepers to provide our lighting in a similar way. Thermal Zoo Pro will help you to provide heat, UV and visible light in the correct quantities and over a wide usable area.

Get the LED spot light on amazon here: amzn.to/47JxvNU Just a correction, sunlight is 120,000 lux not 200,000 lux. So its actually too bright at 20cm away but it means that when you have a 2ft viv its gonna be great for getting it near 120,000 lux! Crazy good!

Question….this is a great informative video 1st of all ! I’ve watched this video a couple times. I’ve tossed around the idea of trying this contraption out…because the ease of 4 lights built into one thing. I’m wondering if you would recommend using this in a large enclosure like a 8x4x4 for a medium sized monitor…say like a Savannah monitor or a peach throat ? My peach throat is currently getting a 8x4x4 built for him & we’re trying to figure out heating/lighting for it as it’s getting built.

I hope Arcadia makes a way to combine the new Lumenize fixtures with the thermal zoo pro. Also, so glad you did this review! I am wanting to get one for my savannah monitor to clean up her lighting area a bit. I didn’t know they came with the two bulbs for the domes so that makes it even more reasonable for me to buy.

I almost bought one of these for my corn snake upgrade, and literally the day before I ordered everything I saw Dillon's podcast that announced LumenIZE with John, so now that's what I am going to get...as soon as its available in the US that is. But really looking forward to having that system for my snake. Great review! I would definitely have purchased it prior to last week, lol.

I would be interested in knowing more about the LED UVB options since the T5 issue is coming. I've seen various articles about how current LED UVB options have shortcomings (IE led's are too narrow on UVB spectrum) but it's all still pretty much like reading mud.

Do you add two 6% uvb bulbs to achieve 12%? Or two 12%? Do you think this would be easy to install in a 4x2x2 viv? Or need to be a bigger viv? I am so close to getting this but cant see any images of it inside a viv.

Can you use a 12% OR 14% bulb AND an LED Bar with this product or only 6% or 12% uvb bulb and does it fit a 3x1.5x1.5 tank?

I am not huge on the design. If you need to use this inside a vivarium for a snake for example, it's going to take up a lot of room. I feel like it could have been built more low profile, and have one single mesh guard covering the whole bottom instead of individual ones for each. I also don't love the look of the tops of the lamp fixtures sticking out overtop of the unit. Also just something to note, those LED spotlights if they are high enough wattage can actually be used as a heat lamp. they put off significant heat directly underneath them
@quentindishman7268
@quentindishman7268 8 ай бұрын
It is not correct to imply that an LED produces similar radiation to a tungsten or tungsten-halogen basking lamp, which is ordinarily what “heat lamp” refers to. It is correct that visible radiation can carry significant power (in sunlight, up to 500 or so watts), and that power is indeed converted to thermal energy upon being absorbed by an object or by water in an animal’s skin and tissues, but because photons from the visible and infrared regions are energized differently (individual visible photons are more highly energized, but less abundant), they do not penetrate tissues in the same way and therefore have different physiological effects. To be more precise, we would say that reptiles have evolved to harness these wavelengths in different ways, in part by absorb the energy transmitted at those wavelengths at different depths. For a concrete example, the peritoneum (lining of the body cavity) of a bearded dragon is black to selectively absorb (block) nearly all wavelengths of radiation before reaching sensitive organs. Put simply, we should not center the concept of basking (voluntary irradiation by sunlight, the solar radiation spectrum received on earth) on temperature alone. Heliothermy is certainly part of basking, and it’s the part that biologists and keepers have traditionally given most attention to, but not the whole story, and misses out on the subtleties.

I agree that configuring it with two UVB bulbs is the way to go. Ive not considered using a spot LED instead of DHP. Interesting idea.. but then you miss out on all that wonderful IRB that the Halogen lacks... so not so sure. I guess if you want 100% "all in one" then this is a smart way to configure, but I wonder if it would be even better to install a JD LED next to the zoo pro fitted with DHP and Halogen. them you have it all?
@ReptilesandResearch
@ReptilesandResearch 8 ай бұрын
Halogens have a lot of IRB, 39% IRB. Sunlight is only 14% IRB so I’d say there’s plenty. No need to use a DHP.
@tomaskas
@tomaskas 8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately this is where Arcadia’s marketing has been very wrong, even after they tried to fix things after the initial advertising of the Deep Heat Projector. There is no “missing” IRB in a tungsten filament lamp. Nothing to fill in with a heat projector at all. It’s pretty basic Plancks Law and Black Body radiation. The vast majority of the energy put into a DHP is output as conduction. It’s essentially a CHE in that sense.

@tomaskas @ReptilesandResearch thanks guys that is really good information that I did not know. One thing I'm still sorting out is running a halogen with my Herpstat dimming thermostat so they don't flash on and off and stress the animal.. my solution so far has been to use a weaker halogen on its own timer and then use the DHP on the thermostat. I would be grateful to learn how you all are running thermostats with basking bulbs. The herpstat has a "basking assist" feature, but still not ideal in my experience.
@ReptilesandResearch
@ReptilesandResearch 8 ай бұрын
@@jeffreymagni1272 if it’s dimming it shouldn’t be flashing, I don’t do anything special other than just plug it in. Normally if it’s flashing it might a a on off or pulse
@jeffreymagni1272
@jeffreymagni1272 8 ай бұрын
@ReptilesandResearch I see. We digress, but what kind of thermostat are you running? I may look into that to see if there's a usa equivalent. The way the Spyder Robotics herpstat works in dimming basking assist mode is it will try to hold your temp by dimming, with the allowance of one degree past its setpoint to avoid flashing of the lights, but even still it shuts off if it can't control reduce the temp in a fast enough manner. I'll have to experiment with lower wattage bulbs on my new setup soon and experiment with different probe placement. I think you mentioned in one of your videos on placing therm probe on the cool side.. that still working out for you?

I will be retrofitting mine soon. I checked with Arcadia directly, and they informed me that LumenIZE will be compatible... with the caviot that right now only uvb fixtures fit.. the LED does not yet because the power connection sticks out to much- its more bulky because it's water resistant. This is a short term hurdle as they tell me early next year they'll have a different connection.
