Arcane has always been one of my favorite specs. Mage is something I don't play a lot but Arcane fits the class fantasy the most to me so that is why I love playing it. Always happy to see when it's good. Loved the guide!

What's the appeal of orb barrage in PvP? Is it simply the potential back to back Arcane Barrages you can get during executes? The strong-ish cleave damage to punish teams stacking up? I still think Mana Gem in particular could be a strong 1 pointer to pick up. 5% more damage during your burst window plus it bringing you to 70%+ mana faster for the Enlightened talent's damage boost sounds really strong.

I find doing damage on Frost to be so complex at current that I have an excuse to play what I already preferred, Arcane. Plus like you said- great spec for learning to bait kicks!

How do you put the combo points above healthbar on enemy?

Arcane is by far my favorite mage spec. When you master it you become untouchable, the combination of Slow + Chrono shift, in addition to shimmer, master of time and displacement is a nightmare in bgs and world pvp. A great example is the player called "Cvark" whose duels you can see on the Dalaran Gaming channel, that guy shows 100% the potential that the spec has in good hands (watching him play is good to learn how to use arcane) For an average player it can be a bit frustrating at first, especially against warrior or rogue, because no matter how many blinks you use, you always get caught in small arenas. It is a spec that is especially enjoyed in open areas. For me, the only thing I don't like about arcane this expansion is the amount of situational buttons they've added to the spec. The mage tree adds spells like ice nova, remove curse, or spell steal, which while useful, are sometimes too much to manage for very specific uses. The three spells I really like as an addition are blast wave, dragons breath, and ring of frost, which always have utility. I think the spec is the least used in PvP next to outlaw, because it's hard to learn and people give up fast, frost gives good results with little practice, and that causes a lot of rerolls. But in terms of fun, I'd rather be bad as arcane, than be good at spamming ice orb + blizzard + ice lance all the time.

Good guide. Feel you papered-over how punishing a single magic school is on a mage now. I find arcane to be borderline unplayable in 3s when trained. It doesn’t really have a meaningful advantage over the other specs in terms of kiting, either. If melee are training you, you’re perma snared so the speed boost is moot.

Whenever I watch Venruki he makes me want to play a mage in PvP.... But then I remember he's been playing a mage sense classic 😂 and I have not

I miss the triple barrier from shadowlands, wish they would bring that back as a mage overall talent.

Wish I could play Arcane but the spells and rotation is a bit more complex than Fire/Frost, which I find far easier to play. That may be why its so low on the PVP scale as far as popularity goes.

There is a pain in the ass (level 60 arcane mage) that somehow has the ability to kick my level 37 frost mage in the ass several times. How is it that he can do that? Any and all comments are welcome!

problem with arcane that they should of fixed is that it's not fun to play. they should make charges you get from blast 2 for crit, 1 for non crit. and make blast faster to cast. like 2 secs tops but scaling down less. plus clear cast procs for missls higher. wow had way too over bloated rotations and other bs. I remember Ian said they wont be adding anymore buttons when shadowlands came out. they didn't ADD any, they bloated that you have. like neither tempest. remove it completely and just give 3% damage buff to everything else flat. Monks have 3 defensive that should be combined into one cause they pretty much do the same thing. marks hunter have unreasonably bloated rotation on top of trap that they have to land, which have 1.5 sec travel time and every one literally walks off of them. like this crap needs to be fixed. the game should not feel like a chore.
