Brill review, thank you. I purchased a TP Link 4G Router TL-MR6500v which includes phoning capabilities on this model. It's been a game changer for my household, as well as my parents who live in the countryside. Before buying this, our family (as with most people) had been with BT for their phone calls and internet for many, many years. We were paying through the nose for abysmal, snail speeds for our internet, and the quality of our landline calls were poor and crackly. It also didn't help that working plant at a nearby sawmill would haul down our phone line maybe once or twice a year! To top it all off were we're paying through the nose for a sub-standard service for years. I didn't even know 4G Routers were a thing until two years ago! It was just chance I Googled it, thinking "if I can get 4G internet on my phone, then why not for my home computer?" And up popped TP Links selection of 4G Routers! Never looked back! It's been a game changer for my parents. They now have excellent internet connectivity for surfing, streaming, video calls etc, whereas before with their landline, loading a photo of a loaf of bread was near impossible :/ They also receive their home phone calls through this router too, axed their physical landline. The quality of the phone calls are superb. Bought a Smarty Unlimited SIM for £20 p/m, can't beat it. Also bought an external MIMO antenna which has helped boost our connection to our local phone mast too. Moving to a 4G Router and axing BT entirely has literally cut our Internet and Phone bills in half. And we now have incredible internet access and unlimited house phone calls without the addition of paying for line rental. Win-win! Never. Looked. Back!

NASCompares, your review is helping me out yet again. Thank you! I'm setting up a NAS and internet for my relative's boat, I'm going to try this as an LTE router. Doesn't break the bank as a marine LTE router would.

Just to point out there are two types of CAT 6 , one refers to cabling type and the other refers to LTE bands, the difference between this and other routers is that it supports carrier aggregation, which can bundle multiple LTE bands for higher download/upload, this is currently supported by EE and Vodafone and also known as 4G+.
@la7dfa
@la7dfa 2 жыл бұрын
I just learned Cat 6 was used for 4G carrier aggregation yesterday. Pretty confusing, because first I was thinking of Cat6 ethernet, and then of Wifi 6 before I found out it was describing two carriers mimo LTE. And there are a buttload of other "Cat's" too. I think it will be easier to understand if it is named "LTE Cat 6" in the description.

The 2 antennas are not for WiFi, rather it’s for reception of your mobile service provider’s LTE 4G+ signal

@@lit2021 It is, the wifi antenna is internal and those SMA's are for the LTE. This is actually amazing, because you can buy/install a proper 50ohm directional antenna.

That WAN port functionality is cool to have at that price point and the general consensus of having SIM backups are a good idea but sadly most high end routers don't have it

I should point out. THis router supports 4G+ (aka 4GEE (on EE), LTE-A, LTE-Advanced or 4.5G), for a theoretical 300Mbps, real world would be upto 60-70Mbps!

bought one of these from Amazon it was dead on arrival, bought a Huawei B535-245B instead and a smarty sim for £18.00 with unlimited data, without the outside aerial up today it has produced 67mbps down and 6mbps up. quite impressed for a mobile router with a month-to-month sim which doesn't tie you down to a particular network as the router is unlocked to all networks. I think I shall be staying with Smarty on 3 for a while its a heck of a lot cheaper than Sky or Virgin media. Sky is going up next month to £36.99, maybe time for a change. The outages on Sky forced me to move.

Usually routers like these will have priority on the broadband you select in the settings. If that fails, it will switch to the second source.

Nice unit, but does not detect a US TMoblie sim card, & also doesn't have the option to select a different band. If it were able to connect multiple bands, the chances of connecting to more then one SIM card would be greater.

Just want to buy this but realised it does not have an RJ11 phone socket like some others do. I want to be able to phone out to a landline from the router via the internal sim card.My SIM card allows a set amount of data, unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines (I am in India) but all I can access is the text option or data transfer, so calls are lost.Is there any adapter I can buy, or a phone app that will allow me to use a wired standard phone with this ?Please bear in mind I have no idea on the techincal side of networks etc, just a basic answer would be great. Suggest Me please.

@thejackahUK

JV1V - all setup. The range covers the entire 2-floor house and conservatory extension. Best in mind the router is positioned on the top floor at the very front of the property in the window and the range extends downstairs all the way to the conservatory. It’s likely it goes further but I haven’t been outside :) to put it another way, it’s better than the routers provided by Virgin Media!

TheJackah - thanks mate! Would you get coverage of at least 20m (65ft) from the router on the same floor at the router?

JV1V - I’d think so. I did a test today. Went down the street and I had 2 signal bars before it cut off completely. This was about 4 houses down.

Hi there, If I use a 4G/5G sim card only with the MR600 router, will my download speed be up to 300 Mbps or 150 Mbps? unless I attach a Cat 6 cable? Just so you know, I plan to use it as a sim card router only (without ethernet cables). If 150 Mbps download speed without cat 6 cable still, as might as well get an MR400. Please advise. Thank you.

at the end of the video it is said that 3 network might work or not in certain areas due to the bandwidth ?.......what does that mean? 3 network supports certain 4G LTE CATEGORIES in one area but not in the other? e.g. LTE 7-8 900-2600 MHz respectively....?
@tukufuzubar7023
@tukufuzubar7023 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is not true. There is a plan to add this feature -- to select 4G band manually to the LTE router already, but it will take a certain time to release a new firmware; that is why we mentioned that this router cannot satisfy your needs yet, but we hope there will be a chance to make you access internet with TP-Link product in the near future after added the new features.
@cannaroe1213

Thank you for working on this because it is very important! We need to optimise our antenna for our local base station, so knowing the router's preferred band is very important! Also is an opportunity to make TP Link router look most professional, with LTE statistics.

@@rayanr.574 in my experience it wasn't that great. Found out the Three mobile network repurposed a 3G signal band (1480Mhz - band 32) to create their LTE-A signal. This router doesn't support band 32 so I was only getting a maximum of 36mb instead of the 100mb my phone gets. The online gameplay wasn't bad, i didn't notice anymore lag than on wired broadband but downloading games with that speed is soul destroying. Could be a different story if it was a different network like EE.
