Looks like he stopped uploading. But the only good advice you can trust from a KZfaq comment is to stay away from complicated, and don't stop tinkering. Carbon/alu shafts, "extra FOC", or just about anything else unique is probably more of a gimmick or gag than anything useful. FMJ arrows bend easily, you can find brass and steel inserts cheap and they're universal, and there's plenty of heavy carbon shafts out there. Don't buy one manufacturer's hype. If it's bright and shiny, trying to grab your attention, it's probably crap. If it's subdued, and just says "it's straight, durable, and gets the job done" you'll probably be happier with it. Generalization, here. I have $9 arrows from Cabela's that fucking rock, but aren't terribly durable. I have $25 arrows I built that are tough, but it's costly and time consuming to fine tune the recipe. Insert/outsert combos are very tough, but cost more and may not meet all of your needs. Standard inserts can leave your shaft vulnerable, possibly costing more in the long run. Prioritize what you want based on what, where, and how often you shoot, and don't be afraid to experiment. Worst case scenario you don't like the combo and have to buy more, but you learned something from it.

Would love to hear how you’re able to compete independently. Keep the awesome content coming

Thank you again for your kind words, it means a lot. You're exactly right, these things take so long to put together, haha! I've been asking past users of the Mossy Oaks about durability, and 1 guy has had some issues with carbon splinters (a few arrows over time), and the other guy has had no issues at all. I'd love to do some stress tests in the future, but that's not in the budget for now. In regard to your comment on one of my other videos, I'm in the works on some similar style broadhead reviews like you said. Prepare for your mind to be blown some more, lol! I've been using Black Eagle Carnivores for a few years now. They are an excellent hunting shaft. And I've used them as an experiment in indoor 5-spot. I believe due to their 19/64th" diameter and actual field results they allow an animal pass thru easier? Tough and resilient. I'm using a 42 grain brass insert with 125 grain Black Hornet. I've tried several style vanes. With those broadheads a 3degree left helical seems to be slightly better at 35+ yardages. Especially in winds up to 20 mph? Naturally, winds above that and 35+ yards there is always some drift but not enough out to 50 yards or so to worry about missing the vitals on deer, pigs, etc.

@@SamuelWhiteArchery Ah! That makes more sense. An interesting comparison for you might be finding off brand arrows like the korean made cartel triple neo arrows (A/C/E like arrow) or if you really want to try something interesting try and get your hands on the Chinese made Bee arrows. They are an amazing answer to the x10's and they shoot just as good as them for less than half the price of just the x10 shafts. I will be getting some myself from a friend who's gone over to china for a little while.

@@SamuelWhiteArchery Let me see if I can finally get this reply out for the 6th time haha. I kept having to go do something else and forgetting to save the comment before closing so here goes. You are doing a bang up job in that case. I love the work you're putting into this and have seen the wall mart arrows vid too. 10/10 Stuff you have going. Thanks for clearing up how you are measuring it. I think something you might really get a kick out of is trying "copycat arrows" I've been shooting some arrows called cartel triple's (Now called cartel triple Neo) They are A/C/E knock offs. There are also another more seriously impressive arrows called bee arrows from china. They might be a lot harder to get a hold of unless you can find someone in china that can get them for you. They are a competitor to x10's but less than half the price of x10's and shoot just as good. I'm getting some myself soon. Also as a side note if you ever get a hooter shooter then you should run your tests again with it and see what changes when you take the human element out of it. P.s. Sorry for the wall of text

@@SamuelWhiteArchery They are a new company out of California. They make hunting and competition arrows. I have the AK's (heavy hunting arrow) they are great. I'd love to try their MT (their new .204 heavy hunting arrow) I think they are mostly online until they get more retailers. www.arrowtecharchery.com/

Maybe you could calculate the FOC of the arrows? I know the tips you chose effect this but it’s just a thought.
@LimbDrivenTV
@LimbDrivenTV 4 жыл бұрын
it would be difficult to say immediately that one arrow would perform better than others given the biggest actors of penetration are the broadhead, arrow weight, and momentum values derived from weight.
@brentmitchell6411
@brentmitchell6411 4 жыл бұрын
@@LimbDrivenTV but arrow weight and momentum are characteristics of the arrow itself. If the head was kept the same through all tests, the test data would be relevant. Though I'm not sure it's really needed, because as you say penetration is largely a factor of of easily measurable data. You don't need to set up an actual test, just weight the shaft.
@LimbDrivenTV
@LimbDrivenTV 4 жыл бұрын
@@brentmitchell6411 The issue is that not all arrow weight is equal. The distribution of weight will be a factor in how the arrow performs. One arrow with higher FOC will out penetrate and arrow of identical characteristics but lower FOC. Depending on how you build your arrow, what tip weight, and how much brass you use in the insert will change your FOC values and may favor having a lighter GPI shaft. The Ashby studies break down how an arrow reacts on impact and why FOC makes a difference in penetration.

Measuring the straightness at the nock like that could be affecting your results. Any oblong-ness there would give you bogus results. Have you done repeated testing on a reference arrow as a control before each test. I would think it should be repeatable but would be interesting.
@SamuelWhiteArchery
@SamuelWhiteArchery 4 жыл бұрын
I'm measuring on the nock end of the shaft, not the actual nock. I hope that makes sense. But you're completely right, if I was measuring on the nock, my results would be total bogus, haha! Thanks for watching.

Just an idea, would it not be more cost effective to just buy shafts rather than complete arrows? At least for the ones that are easily available that way, granted these are likely to be more high or mid priced options.

That's a good point, I'll definitely be looking into that. The problem is that some of the arrows are only sold in the dozen (depending on the retailer), but that's definitely something to look at. Thanks for the feedback!
@Pdro-gw7lu
@Pdro-gw7lu 4 жыл бұрын
Samuel White yeah you’re definitely gonna be limited to the choices versus a dozen in a box but especially with pricey stuff from Easton, Gold Tip and Victory there’s savings to be made. It’s quite specific but what I’d like to see is the real world difference between the grades of arrows. Like between match grade and normal or the V6/V3/V1 for VAPs (this is of interest to me as I usually get VAPs and TKOs in V3 as I don’t feel my results vary much with them vs the V1 graded ones. This could be explained by many other factors than the arrow however (I’m ok but no pro that’s for sure)

For those unfamiliar, or those just wanting a bit more perspective, grains are an older method of measurement, I only know arrows use grains as measurement. For nonmetric viewers, you need 7000 grains to make a pound of arrows, you also need 2.2 pounds to make a kilo. So about 15400 grains make a kilo. Hope this gives perspective and helps a bit!
