I discuss setting up a new website. The issues with setting up a website and issues to consider when setting up a website.
I discuss how the archery business has changed over the 40 years and how now it is much harder to get started in a business.

Great video, Steven. People need to know and reckognize this. I run a fairly new bowshop all alone in Norway, and do everything myself - part time for now. Webshop, physical shop in my basement, workshop, string building.. There's not enough hours in the day, and people think we're here breezing through life doing what we love and the money keep running in all by themselves. And don't get me started on maintaining webshop systems, adding products etc... But we must have some kind of fun doing it, and the joy it brings seeing well earned success.. Can't really be described :-)

Great information most people don’t understand they think anything you sell is strictly profit. We would get people in that broken there bow. It’s always the same I was shooting and all of a sudden it blew up. Now you know that they dry fired the bow but they are a good customer. So most of the time we would have fixed it for free to keep a good customer who buys a lot. Profit is lost. I really enjoy watching these videos because you pull no punches and let people know what you go through every day. Great video keep making

I did my bsc in general computer studies, worked in IT for several years (I was crap at programming though) 😅 did a lot in systems and analysis and enjoyed it. Enjoyed your video.

While the stock levels can be annoying, for most people it's not a major issue, just an inconvenience. I've ran into a few times in a few orders, but it is what it is. Few things I'll say personally, have an option to have a dark theme site wide, bring so white really is rough on the eyes. Preview images could be improved too. Although from the sounds of it, these both might be fixed in the future, so here's hoping. As somebody new in the hobby, you're right that there are so few shops in Australia, so hoping things pick up for you, so you stick around lol

Now that's a really informative and interesting video Steve. I can see your frustration at times and it would drive me crazy as well, but we're stuck with it because that's the way the world's going. I buy 100% of my archery gear online because there's no shop nearby and I don't want to spend a day driving somewhere when I could be shooting instead. So I don't quibble about freight charges, whatever it is for my orders it's less than the cost of petrol and time to go and get it. On the website background, until you explained how complex it is with the product variations I'd not considered how much time must go on these things, but once you spell it out, it's so obvious. Let's hope you get some new sales out of all the effort !

This is why I'm never ever shitty to an archery shop, even for the rare significant mistakes. Only if it's really really egregious and obvious and they argue with me, etc. will I get short. And that's only happened once or maybe twice in my whole lifetime. Archery shops are heroic, IMO, and worth every penny they charge you. If I DIY something to reduce that cost that's one thing, but if I do get a product or service from a shop, I never try to interfere with their effort to make a living and thrive by trying to penny pinch, argue with the price, bust them for shipping times, etc.....

Understandable. I don't know IT, but I was wondering if some of the website stock control can be linked to your POS terminals database? I am assuming that when a sale is made you would scan the product out through the POS terminal and in an ideal situation, this product would be deducted from the stock held. If that part is working, perhaps you might be able to link that POS database to the website to also update the product quantity shown there. Not sure if this helps, but if possible it may save some labor time and problems with customers. All the best to you Steve. Thanks for looking after us archers.

I am a web developer and I hate e-commerce and marketing in general. Very complicated on their own and making webshop is very very hard sometimes.

SHIPPING - both domestic and international - is why I stopped building/selling guitars worldwide and only build/sell guitar pickups worldwide.

Considering most archery kit comes from the USA. You would be shipping from the USA to Australia, then Australia back to the USA plus handling and customs charges. It wont be any cheaper for you.

We appreciate everything that goes into running a business but I am hearing a lot of excuses. Customers don't care about your business processes and how hard it is for you to run. Customers just want to be able to purchase what is advertised on your website but unfortunately 90% of the time, we get a phone or email advising currently not in stock. Sometimes we get advised of other options available to us and other times nothing. All we ask for is accurate information so we know what is available to purchase. We don't like shopping elsewhere but we know if its advertised on other websites, they will have it in stock.
