The behind doors friendly was interesting just to hear of the younger player involvement in the squad. Donley, Moore, Gray, Bergvall, Abbott, Phillips. Does it mean anything? Not really unless you want to speculate in the margins. Lots of rotation in fullbacks suggest that coverage in those positions will be in part internal. Confirms the obvious that Regulon & Spence are gone. It also opens the door for Donley to remain with the squad rather than a full loan as alternate left back. Suggestion that Phillips playing on the right indicates a loan is inevitable, & that there are coverage plans, hopefully Geertruda. That largely the existing forwards played suggest 1 to 2 attackers are wanted which is what the team is pushing for also that Kulu's future is more in the middle. It seems that CDM plan is Bissouma/ Bentancour with Gray the heir incumbent, but Bentancour may have blown that up with world class stupidity maybe 6-12 months ban depending on the League ruling on international actions. So idle thoughts & speculation.

This is an excellent pre season chat as it is interesting to find out who is doing what so early on. I find it interesting that anyone would be a dissenter when it comes to Archie Gray. Bearing in mind, we have sent many a player into lesser teams to see how they cope with their loan spells, with far less impressive results yet still ask when and if we will see them get minutes in the first team. He has proved himself worthy of a chance to step up.

I thought former Spurs Davinson Sanchez was magnificent for Colombia throughout the tournament.

We really have to get out of this mindset that we have to play players based on past performances. Each player should be there on game on game merit not what they have done in the past. That’s probably one of the reasons why we underperform at national level, we lack a ruthless streak to drop the big players who are not performing. We did this with spurs v Liverpool champions league and now with England
