i didn't get a thing until you drew buoyancy force and weight on the log in the first example. After that, it felt so easy. Thanks for being such a boss.

AK LECTURES No, Thank you! I am getting ready for the MCAT and you essentially have a crystal clear lecture on every concept tested throughout the two new science sections. It is an INCREDIBLE resource, really. I have all of the examkracker and nextstepprep books and I find combining your lectures to be even more comprehensive than the books (the books have a value of hundreds of dollars). Thank you SO much for providing these videos. I will be donating.

Thank you so much!!! I haven't taken physics yet and in my calculus class we are doing projects on finding the height where a pear will float. We found the volume, density, and the same for the water just we couldn't find the height. Now we can!!!

Why do we change the signs on the force of gravity and the normal force for the water situation? Can’t we just assume the force of gravity to equal a negative sign?

if I may ask: -why do you get different answers on the mass of water and that one of the log?

The area of a boat is 30000 cm2. A person of mass 60kg steps into the boat. Calculate how far the boat will move down (into the water) when the person steps in?

Dear, the net force acting on the body by the fluid is given by the density of the fluid × gravity × volume of the body or volume of the liquid displaced. Can you prove the mass you substituted into the above equation is the mass of the displaced fluid or the mass of the body?

Well technically there is buyoancy force in air too, since it is a fluid. You can disconsider it because the density of air is insignificant if compared to density of water. Great video though, thank you very much :D

Of course. Check out my other lectures on buoyancy force, in which I discuss the buoyancy force that a helium balloon feels as a result of the air.
