Arching & Assembling a Leaf Spring

2 жыл бұрынThis is how we arch and assemble a leaf spring. We use our 100 ton hydraulic press to "arch" the leaves and then we assemble it in our 25 ton spring assembly bench. If you want to see some more stuff on leaf springs let me know in the comments down below.

I’ve gotta question I took apart my rear leaf springs to paint them and now don’t know how to put them back together Ik one sides longer then the other but not sure if the long end goes towards the cab or back of the truck

on most vehicle usually the long end is on the rear. short end on the front.

Nice but wen you bend them do they hold the arch or they flat aout again after time?

Nothing lasts forever. however, there are limitations based on what type of spring you are dealing with. If you are trying to arch up a 3 leaf chevy 1500 spring 4-5" then it will sag down probably 60% of that in the first year. If you add an extra leaf and arch it up so it raises it 3" then the combination of the arch and extra leaf will last 10+ Years. So if you arch a small amount and give the spring the support it needs, then yes, it can last almost forever. If you do a large arch without any extra support, then it is going to fail almost always. You are relying on the elasticity of the steel to be doing all the work. All steel has a memory and it wants to go back to is original shape it was tempered in. We can always try to de-stress the steel by arching it and then we flex it by jumping up and down on the leaf to "de-stress" it after arching.

Those springs are heavy as hell. My father used to assemble it on the table then move all layers assembled together to the semitruck، that press machine my father used ، was leaking oil like a fountain.

Those must be heat treated just before bending. Cold bending is not ok for spring steel.
