Archinstall Script

CORRECTION: after uncommenting the wheel group, I forgot to add thr user to the group itself. To dl this run "usermod -aG wheel username"
The archinstall script comes with the Arch ISO. I already had a look at this script a couple of months ago when it was introduced. This is take 2.

Hey Ermanno. Just getting around to watching your video now as I short circuited and blew up my main desktop last week (have to watch internet and do some lite computing with my daughter's crappy Windoze laptop... arrrrg!). Thanks again for running through yet another way of installing Arch.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Your videos are great. I imagine that it was missing to insert the user in the wheel group (usermod -aG wheel ermanno). In my tests I used gdisk and formatted the partitions (mkfs.fat -F 32 /dev/sda* and mksf.ext4 /dev/sda*) before using archinstall. In the option to select the partitions used in the script I informed the mount point only (option 4 - /boot and / - I didn't separate / and /home.) and it worked fine. What didn't work satisfactorily was creating a swap partition. Selecting the option for zram in the script works fine.

I've great experience choosing btrfs and wipe all data in disk option (0 option). zram gets almost none swap writes. Better than old style swaps method. Salve!

This script is very useful for those like me who likes to test out different DE's and want a fresh arch install. But for my host OS I usually install arch manually.

Thank you sir for making this video, now I know where I was going wrong, in last step I had to create user Id and password, which is usually not pops up in the script on its own. Thank you sir for this detailed guide.

What's the difference between the sudo group and the wheel group? Is there an advantage or is it just the standard convention...?

Makes my life easier because I don't have the space for VM s and I'm learning to theme wm and I tend to screw up often 😂 easier to start over, saves a lot of time.

Ermanno I want your opinion. I have found out that intel-ucode and amd-ucode are non libre so is necessary to install these packages ? I tried parabola linux some time and i found out this packages are not present in it because they are not open source.

The choice of the network interface could be organized through a script, as, for example, it was done in the Debian installer

When I try to select harddrive for partition it keeps defaulting to my USB even when I select the nvme

When you do your “Monthly Arch Install” this month, could you do it without using your script at the end and do it 100% from scratch? I would really appreciate it if so! If not, oh well, ill live! Love the content and channel!

Hey man, have you tried installing arch with btrfs? It seems that there were some changes in the dec 2021 iso. I have to download nov 2021 iso since the mounting options is different from previous installation. Your next video for installing, can you do btrfs? Thanks

@@eflinux I followed your guide some few months back. Seems like creating a subvol var causing issue, mounting options seems causing issue as well. Thought it was issue with my partitions. Did again in empty drive, VM, same. Downloaded nov iso, works like a charm. anyway, much appreciated

Even for ext4 fat32, manual disk partitioning options just don't work...i have tried a lot of attempts, with efi root and home, with fdisk previous partitioning and just mounting with archinstall...python script always throw a diskerror. The rest of the installer is very handy

Is this the 01 December ISO you are using, here? My download and install shows 50+ keyboard languages in the list, yet you have only 26? How so?

Yes it's the 12.2021 ISO. I am not sure why, maybe I missed something? 🤔

The script is very broken, never had a working installation with it, it was always better to do everything manually.
