Architect Addison Mizner and His Mediterranean Revival Style

Renowned architect Addison Mizner created Palm Beach's classic Mediterranean Revival style in evidence throughout South Florida. Mizner's work in Palm Beach includes iconic buildings such as the Everglades Club, Via Mizner, and Via Parigi off Worth Avenue.
Caroline Seebohm is the author of many novels and biographies, including "Boca Rococo: How Addison Mizner Invented Florida's Gold Coast." She has also written for House & Garden, The New York Times, and Town & Country Travel.

Wonderful presentation! In 1996/97 I lived in Lantana Fla in what was called “ a Mizner style “ house; it was built it 1926 & had the barrel tile roof, Spanish tile w/a few dog prints in the dining room, fan windows ,a cathedral ceiling with beautiful authentic pecky cypress ceiling & beams, and big fire place, & a huge wrought iron Spanish style chandelier in the middle w/ candle stick type lights all around it, It had A wonderful courtyard w/ a wrought iron gate. The house wasn’t large in size but it was solid! A sister house of same stylings, was built at the same time across the street, both on the inter-coastal. It had mature landscaping and was a magical place to live, for the short time I was there. Last time I looked it was still there! Thanks again for this informative & interesting program!

Addison Mizner was the father of Mediterranean Revival in Palm Beach.Other prominent architects of the time and later were : Marion Sims Wyeth, John Volk ,and later on Maurice Fatio

In 1926, John Volk set up his architectural firm, partnering with Gustav Maass until 1935. Volk became one of the architects (along with Mizner, Fatio and Howard and Wyeth) contributing to the Palm Beach area's signature style. Volk's early projects were designed in the Mediterranean Revival style, but he was more reserved in his use of ornamentation. Volk went on to design projects in the West Indian British Colonial style and the Bermudan style and he became known for his Georgian Revival designs.

26:23 is not El Mirasol .It is another Addison. Mizner's masterpiece : Playa Riente; and it is the front of Playa Riente
