With the release of the game trailer for Assassin's Creed Shadows, we're taking a closer look at the architectural marvels featured in two of the series' most visually stunning entries: Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Origins. Join architects Joe Grescovich and Karla Solis as they react to and analyze the meticulously crafted virtual worlds of revolutionary Paris and ancient Egypt. From the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral to the Great Pyramids of Giza, these experienced professionals will dive deep into the design, structure, and historical accuracy of the game's architectural wonders.
Subscribe for More Gamology: tinyurl.com/gamologysubscribe
As we explore the streets of 18th-century Paris and the vast landscapes of Ptolemaic Egypt, Joe and Karla will share their insights on the attention to detail, the use of period-accurate materials and techniques, and the creative liberties taken by the game developers to bring these ancient and historical settings to life. They'll discuss the challenges of recreating such iconic structures in a virtual environment, and how the games manage to capture the essence and grandeur of these architectural masterpieces. Through their expert commentary, we'll gain a new appreciation for the artistry and technical prowess behind the immersive worlds of Assassin's Creed Unity and Origins, and discover how these games have succeeded in transporting players to some of the most breathtaking architectural marvels in human history.

Fun fact: For those that don’t already know this, French architects/engineers are actually using the model of Notre Dame from “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” to help them restore the cathedral, as it’s more detailed then their own records.🙂

To be fair unity had some of the most accurate historical descriptions because it literally pulled it from the source. They went and modeled the entire church from top to bottom with as much details as they could before even starting to put it into the game itself.

@@EVeErSs Yeah, the thing people might overlook is the amount of research that's put into any game beforehand. Take god of war for example, everyone that worked on that game had to get familiar with norse mythology and learn about the gods and even then they mightve learnt about the other pantheons even if it mightve had nothing to do with the game itself. They change the material itself but they learn everything about the source. That's one thing I can respect about the assassins creed games is the research put into it. Almost every assassins creed has had a great deal of research put into it beforehand.

I once walked in the middle of rome with my family and felt a strange feeling that i knew this part of the street. It was because i played assassins creed brotherhood i believe. I told my family to follow me i know where the pantheon 🏛 is. After walking about 300meters we arrived to a big open square and looked simultaneously to the left. There it was the pantheon in full glory. Very nice experience thanks to ac. I had similar experience with galata tower in istanbul and assassins creed revelations. Respect to ac design team 👍🏽

"That looks Roman" Egypt was under Greek control since Alexander the Great, ruled over by the Ptolemy Dynasty (the first being one of Alexander's Macedonian generals, also including the last of their Dynastry, Cleopatra), "Ancient Egypt" was 2500 before the time of the game. During the game Egypte has been both under Greek and Roman control. Hence the architectural influences.

It's technically still ancient though. In the game they refer to the time of the pyramid building as ancient, and that was over 2000 years prior to the setting of the game, so there's just about as much time between the pyramids being built and the game taking place as there is between the game taking place and today. Thus, if the pyramids were ancient for the Egyptians of the Ptolemaic period, then the Ptolemaic period is ancient today. Plus, ancient is often used to refer to anything before the fall of Rome, which during this game the Roman Empire is still in full swing because you're rubbing elbows with Julius Caesar.
@3dmaster205
@3dmaster205 3 жыл бұрын
@@MannyBrum Strictly speaking, there is still no Roman Empire; we're still in the days of the Roman Republic; the transition period, it finishes becoming an empire under Augustus, when he becomes what we call Emperor, and although one of his titles was Imperator, this was purely a military title; his title as head of the Roman state was Princeps, aka First Citizen. The Romans themselves never stop calling their state a Republic, although that requires a good chunk of self-delusion.

It's a shame that I don't enjoy exploring these games anymore (too much repetitivity and the gameplay is way too assisted) or that the level design doesn't give those buildings credit by making them interesting to climb. Congratulations on the teams working on creating and rendering those settings, they're basically the reason I've played origins more than I would if it was based on gameplay and story only.

I know a builder who would probably lose his mind if building in real life was as simple and quick as it is in Minecraft, you can pretty much build a luxury apartment complex in a matter of hours on that game. I do like Sasuke's idea though as redstone does behave in a way that's similar to electrical wiring and it'd be interesting to see how accurate some aspects are.

Honestly, about 50% of the reason I got into this franchise and wanted these games is because of the architecture. The attention to detail, the lighting or shadow. How every moment, you want to take a picture/screen capture and frame it. That's some amazing work by the game designers. I just loved that folks from the field, in their professional opinion they stated "you could study this in architecture school", that's high praise.
