This is the correct way to react to your first listen of Archspire.

So, the song meaning is actually all about a sort of lore the band has upheld the past few albums. Not much relevance to our own world lol The stories follow the experiments of "AUM" (who are a known japanese terrorist group) who use this black alien liquid that they worship called "the drip" to modify human beings into monstrosities that commit atrocities. This song in particular is about injecting the alien liquid into dead corpses in order to pilot them as if they are drones... hence "Drone Corpse aviator" - one who pilots zombified corpses like drones. Their subject matter (evident in the album artwork as well as the practical fx used) is heavily inspired by body horror and monster movies, like that of David Cronenberg and so on. Their previous album, relentless mutation has a song called "remote tumour seeker" that describes the viewpoint of someone partially posessed by this black liquid (often called "the drip"). "Calamus will animate" talks about the same process, but through the eyes of an AUM member (or unwilling servant) bringing them living subjects to be experimented on, causing them to sprout wings and fly. Crazy stuff!

Little fun fact I picked up on after a few listens: The song you hear the janitor listening to on his headphones at the end is another one of their songs off their upcoming album. I believe it's the title track "Bleed the Future".

Bleed the Future and Golden Mouth of Ruin, more two tracks from the upcoming album, too good to not check out. Archspire is one of the best Tech-death bands on recent times hands down. You can't hear the full extent of Vocalist Oliver's skills in this track, so I'd recommend you checking out Golden Mouth of Ruin first. Ohhh also good luck trying to follow the lyrics on any of the archspire's tracks 😂

As far as I know, their vocalist, Oli, doesn't attempt to make any commentary about modern life. His lyrics are more like a short story about a fictional doomsday cult called A.U.M.

Great reaction! I can't stop listening to this band, specifically this track and another new one called "Golden Mouth of Ruin." I really dislike speed for its own sake. Archspire uses the speed they play at to express these really complicated and beautiful ideas - it's speed with purpose. I can't get that riff that starts at 6:39 out of my head. It's just so good. These songs really beg the listener to dive in and explore the music! You really need 5 guys that have absolutely mastered their art to pull this stuff off - which I'm sure we would all agree Archspire absolutely does.
