Buddy was not only a comic genius, but also a genius off stage, with immense intelligence, and a superior IQ.

Buddy was one of the greatest! He was also my "Birthday Buddy" on August 31st. I still drink a toast to him and the memories on that day.

I love this. Honest stuff is always the best. Dick allowed his guests to open up and converse about what drove them to do what they do. No insults, clowning or upstaging. Buddy was a very smart and decent man who made the world a little better by just being himself. Bravo.

I'm so glad I quit watching tv 40 years ago. This was the kind of talent and heart that was prevalent in the entertainment industry way back when.

That was a delightful interview. It was interesting to see the real Buddy Hacket who was obviously intelligent and charming rather than just his comedic persona. It’s wonderful these old interviews can now be seen.

This shows how very intelligent the great comedians have to be to do what they do. Buddy is such a well spoken and intelligent performer which is completely opposite of the comedy persona he portrays. All the greats are intelligent like this such as Robin Williams, Jackie Mason, Eddy Murphy and many , many others

Buddy was gruff, but what a sensitive soul. That’s the second time I’ve listened to him recite that beautiful poem about his parents.

The long form television interview is a dying art. Cavett may have been the best at it. The standard 10-12 minute late night interview can be entertaining, but it fails to let you get to know the guest at all. Cavett was a genius at dropping a topic suggestion then letting the guest take it from there. He seemed to be particularly enamored of comedians and some of his best shows were letting funny people be themselves instead of doing the act.

The Canadian film, " Babe, " aka " Hey Babe " and " Rise and shine " was made in 1979 with Hackett and a 12 year old Yasmine Bleeth in her first movie role.

Wow !! that was a whole different side of Buddy Hackett, one that I had never seen. He was obviously very intelligent, as well as honest. He should have showcased that more. He could have been a very good, as well as successful, actor. RIP Buddy Dick Cavett did his usual good job - just asking the occasional question, then "stepping aside", and letting the guest have the spotlight, thereby drawing out the guest, and creating an excellent show.

Funny story. I’ve never seen Buddy Hackett’s face until today. Beyond the voice of the seagull in the little mermaid, I just haven’t been exposed to his work. So, I see Scuddle’s human face for the first time and I says to myself, i says “gee, he sure looks like Lou Costello. I wonder if they’s related.” So I google it, and find out that they are not related BUT he did play Lou Costello in a made-for-tv biopic in the late 70s. How bout that

Dick was one of the best interviewers in a time of great interviewers on TV. He was well informed and had a great sense of humor to balance his intellectual skills. Buddy was always one of my favorites because, like a lot of comedians, he was very intelligent but hid it in his stage facade.

He was also very good in The Wonderful World Of The Brothers Grimm 1962.

Dick Cavett was a great interviewer and here we get to see Buddy Hacket unlike any other talk show.

My dad once played golf with Buddy Hackett. My dad tried to tell him a joke, but he said, "No, no, I've heard them all." My dad said he was a nice guy.

He stayed at his 1st show for 21 years. He did show. On TV. . Band Box.1952. This is what he was doing before he became famous.

Buddy Hackett was my dads favorite comic. I know back then Buddy was rude and racist.. look he played a native american in a movie. that was those days. I was adopted I am Native American, my dad was German. His family was German. He loved Buddy. I remember being a kid in 1980 and his aunts spoke only German. My dad was a great man. he looked passed his hertiage to love Buddy Hackett. Yes his jokes can be now sexist. as a country.. I hope we can except all races as my father did for this native american and culture and I love buddy hackett jokes.
