Now many of us are familiar with electric car companies like Tesla, Fisker, Lucid, Rivian, or even Karma Motors, but have you heard of a company called Arcimoto? I test drove their FUV. It is a fun alternative to expensive $50,000 plus cars and SUVs.
It may not be suitable for the whole family for transportation, but it is perfectly suitable for urban living for two people or delivery drivers. The FUV is also designed for emergency response for paramedics and law enforcement.
When you look at the design of this FUV it reminds me a little bit of a microlite or small helicopter. The design mimics a pilot or race car driver cockpit. One plus one seating allows for some of the most spectacular views. No windows on either side afford the riders the ability to exit on the left or right. The windshield is a single blade mechanism that was never an issue. The roof is covered in plastic giving you the sunroof look being see-through. Having the lights positioned the way they are, looks just like a motorcycle. Having the passenger behind the driver really adds to the efficiency of the ride and the cool aesthetic.
If it only had a blade up top you could fly. There are several other models, one designed for delivery that gives you extra room for merchandise, a Roadster for when you need to tackle rough terrain and environments in a hurry.
These may not have a steering wheel but it does have a responsive motorcycle-like handle and throttle. They come with seat warmers for the front and back, including handlebar warmers. Available upgrades for cell phone holder, navigation, and music via Bluetooth.
A dual electric motor will get you where you need to go with 75 horsepower and up to 100miles of range in the city on one charge. Arcimoto is having trouble keeping up with orders despite the starting price being just under $18,000. Whether you need it to do your delivery’s in, scale some rough terrain quickly, or use it in an emergency situation. This multipurpose three-wheeler is much more than fun.

The red Roadster belongs to the CEO. You can see, on the right side, he has a sidecar so his dog can come along too. They are staring to build a plant to start mass production the end of the year. They will also expand their rental business at resorts too. All in and long in Arcimoto.

My wife Diane is disabled plus we have a little Shi Tzu that requires doors. We have been waiting about a year for our FUV that will have doors and the luggage box. Was so happy to see the dog in the back seat with his safety harness. We are like many who want something more like a motorcycle without gas and safe to drive. So far we have purchased the little trailer to tow in back of our motorhome plus a storage shed to keep it out of the hot Florida Sun. Our roof solar panel will keep it always ready to drive with a full charge.

Just got back from grocery shopping using my FUV. Here in sunny central Florida, it is a warm 70 degrees. Perfect FUV weather. As for snow driving, which I have done, I suspect that with two front wheels driving the FUV should do just fine. As for really deep snow, I wonder if you can put chains on the front wheels?

@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
No. Absolutely not, for two very solid reasons. The company is committed to zero emissions vehicles. Period. And long trips that are not essential for business are no longer sustainable. Soon the carbon taxes will make it unaffordable for all those who don't care about the environment. Take a bus or train or just don't go on 'drives' any more. Those days are over. I had not left my town even once in the last 7 years so my FUV has more range and power than I want. Wishing for a lower price is silly.

@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon Жыл бұрын
@@HimynameisJermHicks Long range is exactly the thing the company is not pursuing. They do not want to enable continued unsustainable behaviors and I would not have bought one if that was their values. Pretty sure they don't want a battery that would exceed 120 miles. In 2022 it is 12 years past the deadline after which all personal car abuse was deemed unsustainable and damaging to the biome. 'Road trips' for fun are obsolete unless you do it on a bicycle. So are long commutes and pleasure drives. We now know we must take a bus or train for those or stay local. Only commercial vehicles should have long range as a goal. The range of my FUV is much greater than I need or want. I have not left my town in 8 years except for two dental surgeries. If I could buy a version with less range and a lower top speed I would have preferred it. The high speed roads we demand are suffocating nature. Change or die.

This is not a car, it is an autocycle so felexible thinking is required to comprehend the difference. Half a billion motorcycles have no doors or side windows or roofs. The Arcimoto has a wrap around windshield joining the roof to keep us dry. I stay totally dry in rain while it is moving, not one single drop comes at me from the sides and there is a roof gutter system too. We buy custom fit storage covers if we have no sheltered parking.

Helmet only required for the Roadster depending on your local state laws as it is a fully enclosed vehicle for the regular FUV or Deliverator. Once the new RAMP facility is up to speed in a few years, and they are pumping out 50k a year or more, you should see a price drop from 18k to 15k, or the equivalent thereof depending on inflation rates and material costs.

They still do not get as wet as a motorcycle passenger thanks to the roof. I have never taken a passenger and I removed my rear seat for cargo space. The Deliverator and pickup model also carry no passengers so the total use profile means less than one quarter of use involves passengers in the rear in rain. Not a deal breaker, as demonstrated by the real demand and years of pre-orders. The FUV was never marketed as a car replacement for all uses, just 90% at most. So all nit picking is bullshit based on a false premise. Snowmobiles are not worthless just because they can't be used in Florida. How many times have you attacked snowmobile videos because of that?

How does it run at 55mph.Does it feel stable.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
@@tonytiger8248 It is stable as a motorcycle but not vulnerable to wipeouts due to loss of traction or a tire blowout. The steering is extremely tight and responive, it takes a while to be fully adjusted to it. When you jiggle the handlebars of a motorcycle at speed, the wheels compensate while it stays on track. When you jiggle the handlebars of the FUV it tosses you back and forth in the harness instantly, so over correction is not as forgiving as it is on a 2 wheel motorcycle which relies heavily on the gyroscopic effect of its wheels. I have had mine at 75, my mechanic hit 84 mph in mine. Stability with 3 wheels and the wider stance of the FUV has a different definition. Without doors and windows to catch crosswinds, it is stable when a truck passes and the FUV has a very low center of gravity. Wet pavement makes a motorcycle far less stable and more vulnerable - the FUV's three car tires offer a larger traction contact with the road. The most common way to wipe out a motorcycle is in a turn when you hit gravel or oil. In that same situation the FUV maintains enough traction with two tires up front.

@@Martin-se3ij Sure, if you have a dishonest motive that refuses to see how ambulances can not navigate park trails, jogging trails and pedestrian bridges. But let's look at your scenario - you dishonestly ignore the use of a siren and flashers to clear traffic everywhere. It is in fact 16 inches narrower than the average compact car. Passengers in rain represent less than one quarter of all use. The Deliverator and pickup model carry no passengers and you can't prove that a passenger is always present when the FUV is driven in rain or that every rain is heavy. KZfaq videos describe the experience step by step and show how the final cost is triple for your 'bargain' and also steal jobs from Americans, hurting our economy.
