Arcs: Leaders and Lore First Look

Arcs development is still underway on the big Campaign mode, but the base game is completely done and we wanted to take some time to better learn the core mechanics before we tackle the Campaign behemoth.
A wonderful addition to the base game is the introduction of Leaders and Lore cards, which add a lot of asymmetric flavor to the game. It's not as robust as the Campaign, but that makes it a lot easier to learn!
We were joined by Arcs developer Joshua Yearsley and friend of the Show Guerric (‪@GuerricSamplesGames‬) to play with this game mode. It happened to be one of the last tests on some Leaders undergoing final changes, but this is a NEAR COMPLETE look at Arcs with Leaders and Lore!

I backed this game simply because of the creators and ... well spaceships. This is the first time I felt like I got what was going on, and it looked fun. So thanks. Maybe I will actually like this game.

At 23:00 minutes with the Aggression 4 - Why are two actions (one for each pip) played when it’s not a Surpass? This should have been a pivot right, and only one action?

…actually doesn’t pivot need to be a different action to lead card? So could the aggression 4 have been played at all here? Only face down as a copy right?

Surpass only applies to the Lead card. Someone else can surpass with a higher card than you have and you can still surpass. In the cast of the lead card being 5, when the Ambition is declared, the token is placed over the 5, reducing it's value down to 0, so any matching suit can surpass

I'm still not clear - is the Leaders and Lore pack something we had to pledge extra for? I don't remember seeing it anywhere.

The kickstarter originally called it the More to Explore pack and it has since been renamed. So if your pledge included More to Explore, you'll have Leaders and Lore

So clearly the big jagged void thing between 5 and 4 means you need to go out into the gate if you want to travel to the next sector... but what's that nubbin between 5 and 6?

The Psionic planet in 5 and the Material planet in 6 are actually adjacent to each other! Whereas the Weapons planet in 5 and the material planet in 4 are not adjacent.

@@landonweldy5468it does make clear that you cant move from gate to planets of the adjacent gate. From gate 5 to planet 6A for example.

@@SpaceCatsPeaceTurtlesPodcast since you guys seem to know what you're doing and have been nice and responsive, I had another question: page 8 of the rules says "If you have the initiative, but you have no cards in your hand or just choose to skip your turn, you must pass the initiative." Does skipping your turn mean you burn a card or all your cards?

2:06:27 Josh’s agent should have been matts trophy, correct? Looked like Josh removed it when the card was ransacked? Sure didnt matter for the game state though..

Matt mentioned that Root players preferred the single session game but I believe from the KS over 90% of those who supported the game went for the campaign version which was presumably quite a lot of Root players.

Yeah definitely not meaning to insinuated Root players aren't very excited for campaign. I'm thinking more of competitive play reactions I've seen. Some folks really like how tight and consistent base is for competitive play, and my horribly biased anecdotal evidence suggests those people are mostly Root players.

So Im trying to learn to play this game, I see here this Map but all the tutorials are on another map? which map is outdated?

This is the updated map. The mode we played here is actually completed. The Campaign Mode is still under active development which is why there aren't many tutorials yet. The game won't release until next year and then you'll probably see a lot more helpful guides
