It’s funny how much is forgotten in even 15 years. AM mania in the UK when their debut came out was a real thing it was beyond what The Strokes were in 2001 even at their height. For Americans it’s not that far off from Nirvana breaking big with Nevermind. I’m not joking. NME in 2006 listed Whatever People… as the 5th!!! best British album of all time. Ahead of every Beatles and Stones album. The fact that AM broke big in the States with such a different style a decade later is incredibly fascinating to me IMO
@lithium23
@lithium23 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I remember them playing these songs in America and it didn't go over well at all. I loved them even back then but nobody I knew was aware of them at the time. I remember not understanding why they didn't translate at all to America at the time, since I liked them most during this era.
@MrDrumboy17
@MrDrumboy17 2 жыл бұрын
I guess the reason I can think of that they weren't as big a sucess in America as they were in England at the start of their career (2005-2008) was because they wrote songs that were about UK night life, and growing up in the UK, and things Inherently about life in the UK which would apeal to youths in England at the time and I guess is why they wouldn't necessarily relate so much to an American audience, and because Arctic monkeys at the time seem to have to appealed more to the UK audiences. And tbh, British teenagers and young adults would probably have the same experiences which they were singing about in mid early 2000s Britain. Then obviously when the album 'AM' came out, they had already spent nearly half a decade in America, and written two albums on US soil, so they'd spent years there compleatly absorbing American culture and life, before they wrote the album 'AM' in 2013. Really, they transformed themselves into modern sophisticated rockers as they matured themselves and went from young lads from Sheffield to men in their late 20s, early 30s writing ballads and Alex Turner swooning, rather then keep their fast paced energetic punk ashtetic, and obviously wrote songs about things American people could relate to rather then predominantly the English youth like before. They went from young punk connoisseurs singing about living in Sheffield to life in America, and adopted a more mature sound which I suppose went down better with American audiences. But I'm just a guy on KZfaq 😁 but In my opinion that's why.

I was 6 years old💔I'm 21 now and goood, they're my favourite band ever 😭I think we feel like we were born in the wrong era or something, specially because after the pandemic there's no idea of when things like this are going to be able to come back the same way as before... And I feel like my youth keeps running and I realize that there are things (like this one) that probably I'll never be able to do (even though I know if I see them now it will be amazing too, but it would be very different) so yeah, the people there were the luckiest ever

Good concert? Tell me that there's a better concert by a band in the same year of their debut. This concert is legendary and becomes more iconic as the years pass because people will realize what the Arctic monkeys could pull of at just 19. 2007 Glastonbury and 2006 Reading are probably the best by Arctic Monkeys.

@@iKaresaboutNASCAR I wouldn’t say it was. I love playing metal but let’s be honest, it’s exactly the same as blasting classic scales very, very fast. It has fuck all rhythm but it is still impressive in its own right. But it just doesn’t have the groove and funk that this kind of music has, that’s why it needs the speed and intensity. Different courses. Maybe it’s just my POV as a guitarist.
