I find this album incredibly compelling and captivating to listen to, more so than any music I've ever heard before. Almost like I'm being put under a spell. Everything about it, I don't even know where to begin. The off-kilter vocal melodies and Alex's almost spoken word lyrics with his beautifully harmonic deep baritone, contrasted with his perfect, eargasmic falsetto is pure magic to me. The instrumentation (along with everything about Alex's vocals previously noted), especially in songs like Star Treatment, TBH&C, American Sports, and Batphone are the kind of music me and my fiance slow dance to in the dark of night with candles while we hold each other close. I honestly think this album is the best music I've ever heard. Everything about it is completely my style and groove. Never has an album fit so closely with the rhythms of my soul. This album is full-moon magic music. It's music you play while you lay in the grass and stare at the stars, and into space, and brood while moonlight washes over you. Perfection in every sound for me. It's the kind of music that you sip wine to, or smoke a bowl to. Either while you are reclined comfortably back with your eyes closed, or slow dancing under moonlight and candlelight. Everything about this record is my style much more than anything from there previous records, and I'm consistently blown away by the sound even when I've had it on repeat for a week. Though I do love all their albums in their own ways. This one just speaks to me, fits me, and moves me in a way that no other album from any other artist has ever done before. :)

I like the album. I respect the fact that they didn’t do another AM or another Humbug, etc, etc....they keep pushing the envelope for better or for worst. But this makes for a great addition to their catalogue. Offcourse they’re going to alineate fans. But think about the greatest bands; there are always albums like that; Zeppelin III, Animals, Achtung Baby, etc etc etc.

Please Led zeppelin? Their music is so heavily derivative its almost offensive. I enjoy their music but they never pushed the genre forward in the ways other bands have.

Stumbled across this review. It's like you're saying everything I want to. Excellent review and extremely well delivered. It took me about 7 or 8 full listens of the album to click but now I genuinely feel it's their best material to date. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend watching the live version of 'she looks like fun' from the James Corden late show. Incredible chemistry in the band.

What you said about a lack of singles before release makes so much sense now. I get the impression that Domino Records gave Alex and the lads a blank canvas to work with after the dizzy heights of AM, which, coupled with the integration of the piano, meant Alex was able to take inspiration form the Last Shadow Puppets side of things as opposed to the Monkey's previous albums. If poeple are looking for festival tunes, this might not be the album they were after, but from the band's point of view, it signals progression both musically and lyrically to put themselves out there and take risks, as opposed to staying within the formula they'd already perfected.

+Calum Adair love Neil Young. seen the guy a couple of times. Some of his albums are on my to do list. But these classic album reviews take a lot of research and work and I don't get the time to do them as often as I would like, especially trying to balance work, kids and all that stuff.... I like Rust Never Sleeps as well. One thing I want to do over the summer is really do a lot of my earlier vlogs were the video and audio quality is not so great.

@lukenardoni2454

@@classicalbum I think "challenging" is a good way to describe the album. Personally I think the album is outstanding but I didn't get to that point until I had listened to it a few times. It's almost like the songs are like little puzzle games of words, rhythm and melody of varying degrees of difficulty. Once your brain works out the structures and you can follow the songs along it is a much more rewarding listening experience.
