It probably reminds you of the mid 2000s because it’s from the mid 2000s.

This was one of those albums that genuinely exploded because of how good it was rather than because it was thrusted into the limelight by the labels. They rose meteorically through social media - probably the first example of a band who hit the #1 spot through doing so in the UK. They then went on to win multiple awards throughout their career. I'm pretty sure they were still teenagers when this album hit, and that album was a banger. I was never really a huge fan of the band, but the first two albums they dropped were probably the best that the UK mainstream produced in the mid 00s. Cell to Joel for rocking his way through the song. Also I can't give Chuck the cell for his scum-bag accusations! 😂

you guys should 100% check out The Last Shadow Puppets, it’s Alex Turner’s (lead Arctic Monkeys vocalist) side project with another great artist Miles Kane, they have a different sound from the Arctic Monkeys but it’s so good! ‘Miracle Aligner’ is a great starter if you’d like to check ‘em out, love the reaction per usual! :)

Lmao I love the tangents where you guys just start shit talking each other. Wasn’t even thinking about the fact you hadn’t rated the song yet. Now that I am again, though, little background to this band, because they’re insanely talented and have several impressive accolades, especially for how young they were when they started. This was the first band to really get famous because of the internet. They started putting stuff on Myspace back in the early-mid 2000s and they immediately exploded in popularity and became massive, before their first album (this one here) even came out. And after this dropped, they just skyrocketed. And they were only 17 when they wrote most of the songs on this album, and 19-20 when the album came out in ‘06, which is even more insane, because the composition, the lyrics, the engineering, etc, is all so much more brilliant than a lot of bands that write for 30 years ever put out. It’s a subtle brilliance that’s hard to catch on a first listen, but it’s there. Even today, this album holds the record for the fastest selling debut album of all time in the UK, and they’re one of the most culturally significant bands in the country’s history. This is one of those bands that writes nothing but really good shit. All killer, no filler. Tight musicianship, subtly brilliant songwriting and lyricism, really clever instrumentation, drummer is amazing…killer stuff. Every album is pretty different from the last. They mellowed out A LOT as they went along, and even though I don’t personally enjoy most of the stuff after their first two albums, they really have continued to evolve and push boundaries with their music the entire time, and their later stuff is basically fine art with how intelligently written it is.
