I love how people always say the shark was just mistaken and they really don't want to eat you. That's little comfort when a chunk is missing out of your side and your bleeding to death in the ocean. At least the shark realized it's mistake.

Well told story - a surfers worst nightmare for sure . I’m seldom alone surfing here in California but on those rare occasions when I am thinking about sharks can really give me the creeps

People never talk about shark attacks and Jesus. This makes it my favorite.

One shark attack is bad enough, but two at pretty much the same time is insane odds, am pleased you made it out, thats an insane experience, I saw some commentary on this that suggested the other attacking shark may have inadvertently saved you from the first, either that or it was a coordinated attack, no matter which that was an awful, insane attack, but you survived and thank you so much for telling your story.

I saw your attacking incident movie few years ago. I felt releaved when I knew that eventually you were survived from those great whites. You are one of the most Luckiest guy in this world. God Bless You all the time❤.

Oh, I remember this. I think the guy was just a teenager. I couldn't believe he'd survived with just minor injuries. No limbs ripped off. I don't go into the ocean anymore. I just can't relax. I love sharks. They are amazing animals. But I'd have a heart attack if I saw one. I could never go cage diving with GW'S. My heart just couldn't take the fear.

I’m not gonna lie, this story is absolutely insane. Being 100 meters out from shore and coming face to face with a great white shark??? Just coming face to face with a GW is enough to give most people PTSD for the rest of their lives and that’s without even getting attacked. Not only did you get attacked while having a deep cut bleeding profusely in the water, and not only did you get attacked by a fairly large GW, YOU GOT ATTACKED BY TWO??? Dude, I would’ve had a massive heart attack if I were in your shoes. God truly blessed you to tell this tale!! I feel like 99% of other people would’ve been eaten.

The part where he said he looked at the shark eye to eye and they were both confused...that's what saved his life. Thats exactly what you are supposed to do. And that is why the shark backed off. Whether he knowingly did it or not, it doesn't matter. That face-off is what saved his life.

Bru I remember watching that on TV at the time. I was 14 at the time. I used to get the same feeling as I’m sure we have all had at some stage. Surfing unprotected beaches in KZN the J-bay of the south coast (some will know the spot) and the massive Tigers we get. I often prayed before getting in and thankful after the session. Seen some Johnny’s while in and you get out quick. I remember reading all the stats from Nahoo reef and the images of the surf in the ZigZag surf magazine. That place goes off! Shot for sharing .

Im more impressed how you make late drops into tube in the freezing cold 😂, once the water gets around 17degrees Celsius i feel stiff and freezing and can barely move !

1. The shark gave him a great gift, as he wisely acknowledges at the end. 2. Although his reaction was of course understandable, there was nothing to fear from the shark after the initial (exploratory) strike was over. If the shark considered him prey, he would not have made it another 10 meters. 3. Fear of sharks is based in anthropocentric ego. If sharks viewed people as prey, humans simply would not be able to surf or swim in the ocean - ever. They are always there, they are brutally efficient hunters, and we are helpless in their element.

Crazy scary experience, hard to feel more hopeless and hapless than this! 💪💪 you made it. Now perhaps you even enjoy little things you didn't before, just opening your eyes in the morning most be an experience.

I’ve been stalked by a 12 ft crocodile, while spearfishing. Obviously it didn’t eat me, but it was as close as 3 meters behind me as I swam to the reef. It followed me for about a minute. Like u say, how I felt I can’t describe. I must of looked back 100 times, each time in disbelief it was actually happening. All I can say is, it was surreal, and the whole time I never was really that scared. But, when I was safely back in the boat, I was shitting myself the whole time as we moved 6nm to a different location. Was a very weird experience. Cheers mate!👍🎯🍻🇦🇺

Most shark attacks are based on curiosity. Sharks bite to test if we're edible. Most deaths come from blood loss and drowning. Most importantly, you survived and got your hands intact. These are predators that we need to respect. The water is not our primary environment.

The most bizarre bit is the fact that you were bleeding off the initial attack, and neither of the two sharks came at you again on that entire swim back. I wonder what they were thinking

He totally looked like a seal-until I bit him!” Shark 2 “Thank god you made me miss him! Was it…Was it gross-I mean, the flavor?” Shark 1 shudders “In the moment I was so shocked, I didn’t taste anything. Only now am I starting to notice the flavor. Actually, the worst thing was his eyes, just looking into mine-like he was trying to make a point. And he didn’t even get his teeth out! He just looked at me… I mean, he did look like a seal, right?” Shark 2 “I thought so.”

Oh- he is an arctic surfer but he was not attacked by a shark in the arctic. I was about to throw out everything I thought I knew about White sharks. I'm so glad you made it man!

Almost speechless I can say, I'm so glad that you came out of a double great white shark attack with comparably minor injuries. I think I would have died just being face to face with one of them.

I'm from East London and surfed Nahoon Reef over many years thankfully never seen a shark. Judging by the footage the attack didn't happen 100m out, but close to shore. I say this not to dismiss Shannon's story (actually his Testimony) but to highlight the fact the sharks "operate" very close to shore. Kudos for your testimony and your new Christian walk.

This is one shark attack I could never forget mainly because two beast tried to end you but you came out alive just amazing

I am absolutely horrified, yet fascinated, by the ocean. I would be so scared to go surfing, only because of sharks. I remember the last time I was in the ocean, some asshole started screaming shark and then people started panicking. The guy started laughing and people were visibly upset with him. He was such a jerk for that.. being that scared was almost like animal fear. I’ve never been back in the ocean since. . It’s a shame too cause it’s so beautiful. I just don’t want to get hurt or drown. I’m glad you are okay. My heart started racing when I seen the small snippet of your hand in the video. I had to look away. We've got some beautiful big white pointers and other sharks hanging around our WA coast just off Perth atm. One spotted two weeks ago was 6m and a 5.5m was sighted about two days ago. We had a shockingly hot Summer with a shit ton of people flocking the beaches and rivers and, although my SharkWatch apps showed plenty of big beauties close to shore, attacks were extremely rare. If there was one, it was mostly an exploratory bite and the person was immediately let go. I've definitely had plenty close by me before and haven't always even known they were there but they tend to leave us alone. Plus, most attacks are provoked. Not all...most. Yours *_definitely_* wasn't obv. I remember seeing footage of your attack and the aftermath as well as docos showing recreations so it's epic to actually hear it from you. Glad you're back doing what you love, mate. Keep riding those waves🤙🏻🤘🏻.

This is an awesome video. At first, I'm thinking I immediately dislike this guy, but the more he speaks, the more I'm thinking, "This guy is amazing." This video is brutality honest. As a person who worked offshore a bunch...If this was to happen to me or anybody I know, I'm not so sure anybody could have kept such a cool composure. Truly, it's amazing you kept your head together the way you did.

As a one time single mother I can totally empathize with your father. Not the best circumstances but he did the best. Such a monumentally traumatic event. I can't even process it and it didn't even happen to me. Bless your healing and courage.✨🌊✨
