Are these guys space pirates? I know that Arcturus is made up of Black Metal alum as well I know they are avant-garde kind of metal. Today we checkout Arcturus and their song Nightmare Heaven from the album The Sham Mirrors, fans of this band tell me about them, feed me knowledge!
Arcturus is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in 1991. Their name, which means "Bear Guardian", references the Behenian fixed star Arcturus.

Oh wow. Never seen anyone do Nightmare Heaven. This is one of my absolute favorite metal songs ever. Vortex did a lot of work with them, among other great bands. His solo album Storm Seeker is really good. ICS VORTEX!! THE MAN!!! 💎💎

It's a great song and ICS has some great tunes with them but I do love this album and LMI particularly for Garm. Would be fun to hear this song with ICS instead though.

@@Kraakesolv Yeah like with Borknagar. He did a lot of songs with them. But they have a lot of songs I love, like The Black Canvas, God's Of My World & Resonance. Vortex didn't do the cleans in those. But they're still some of their best songs. Have you heard anything from Vortex's solo album? Storm Seeker.

I'm a massive fan! The Sham mirrors vvhole album is a must, and also the La Masqurade Infernale. But every album has it's vveird, fucking moments or sensational emotional flooding.

One of the best metal bands ever, with members from super pivotal bands in their own right. They have never toured the U.S. so I have not seen them, but I was lucky enough to meet Garm at Ulver's 'Shadow's of the Sun' cd release party in Brooklyn in like 2007 and he was quite interesting, and I saw Ulver play in NYC on their 'Assassination of Julius Caesar' two night stint. Ulver is one of my fave bands, and Garm has worked with so many great artists whether as a bandmate or a producer, guest artist, etc. You could go a long time just listening to albums he's had a hand in. It would practically be easier to list the bands he hasn't had an impact on. Thanks (2 years late) for your very excellent reaction. Hope you had a chance to listen to more of them.

The usual term for this kind of metal is "avant garde metal", at least from what i have heard.

Nice! If you want some more avantgarde metal, I'd recommend Dodheimsgard's "Regno Potiri" song. It's a little fucked up though! ha

The piano riffs were a pleasant surprise but this otherwise did absolutely nothing for me. The lengthy instrumental passage kind of sounded like music from Stranger Things....then it kind of got into an early Styx kind of vibe. The latter is not necessarily a bad thing but it just did not work for me here....
