Are 4G Gate Openers really 4G? RTU5024 & Callny G202 Plus Testing.

Michael looks into whether the 2 popular Chinese gate openers are capable of operating on 4G only networks. Once 2G and 3G are closed down in Europe they will need to have fully operational 4G calling which is harder than you might think!
We found the Callny G202 Plus has only 2G internals. Describing it as 4G is blatantly fraudulent.
The RTU5024 has the same hardware as many AES Global intercoms and the same chipset as £900 Videx 4G intercoms. However, they have failed to enable 4G SMS and calling in the software so these will never work after the 2G/3G shut down.
For working 4G calling on all networks you must use a LTE Cat1bis Rel13+ chipset as found in Priory Access intercoms and Gate Openers. Currently no other manufacturer offers these products.

Hi thanks for taking the time to do this video. Im a gate opener installer in Jamaica and I have been searching for 4g devices in preparation for 2g sunset. I was actually looking at the g202plus and the g203 models as I need the 999 user model. Glad i found your video in time. Have you looked at the rtu 5025 model. It would be interesting to know if the 4g radio is enabled. I saw a video with a guy from Chile showing the 4g radio in the unit. I hope you will be able to review the rtu5025. Thanks again.

I should really get a new one to see if they've done anything about it. You need quite a modern chipset to make 4G calls. The new chipsets are cheaper than the old Qualcomm ones so they might end up making a VoLTE gate opener without even knowing about the issue!

@@MIKE-il6muits a Quectel EC25 which is pretty much the same as the one in the unit I looked at. It has old 4G chips in it. They work on some networks but the IMS must be enabled as shown at the end of this video. Maybe the manufacturers know about it now or maybe they don't. You need to put the wires on to tell. If you have billing on your SIM card's network which shows whether the call was VoLTE or not that can also show if the IMS is enabled. The one I have it isn't. I did switch it on and it worked but I had to solder wires onto it and type the command in. The VoLTE system in North America is old so I reckon that would work there if it's enabled.

Hi David, thank you for your interest in our intercoms. We don't currently sell any in the UK although Metalines and The Electric Gate Shop normally stock Priory Access intercoms. In a few months they will most likely have our latest intercoms.
