Since he doesn't want to name the brand, I'm going to. The most accessible round-bottom induction wok brand is Nuwave, at around $150 with discounts. This one uses a regular outlet at 120V. Some commercial options exist (240V), costing $300-$1000.

Just a heads up, cast iron will leave a residue of carbon on the induction burner that's terribly difficult to remove. If you're careful, you can avoid damage from the weight of the wok but, that carbon layer affected my burner a lot.

@@TanukiOfficial To clarify, I'm talking about Cast Iron. Specifically, the cast iron bottoms. I often had the cast iron at higher temperatures. Maybe that's why it was so hard to remove. My stovetop was also older, that could have something to do with it. I just wanted to give people a heads up because induction stoves come with instructions on which pans are safe for your stove top.

*Revised, thanks @Yocray* Um... You could lay a silicone baking sheet, *wadded Aluminium foil* , or similar product over a flat hob to protect the glass; gives a bit of room for mistakes. *Silicone max temp is 450⁰F or 220⁰C* It won't change the induction transfer much. *Anything that's thin, non-magnetic, can take the temperature & can spread out impacts should work.* *Aluminium does react to changing magnetic fields, but not with heat; it may or may not work*

I have this wok/hob combo, and once I got the hang of it, I get excellent results I could never get with my flat bottom wok on induction cooktop. My only complaint is the induction coil is VERY small at the bottom of the wok -- professional wok burners have a little auxiliary heat a bit further up the side of the wok. That wouldn't be such a big thing except the metal of the included wok is paper thin. I might ask the Asian market the next time I go if I could bring this little wok to see if I can match the curvature in a thicker walled wok to use with the hob.
@JDH3666
@JDH3666 Жыл бұрын
Hi. What do you believe is the advantage of a thicker walled wok? I really like the lighter weight of the wok which comes with the hob. Is it a heat conductivity issue?
@ray_mck
@ray_mck Жыл бұрын
@@JDH3666 yes, the induction coil on this unit is very small -- Smaller than the smallest eye of my moderately priced induction cooktop. The very bottom of the wok is blazing hot, but centimeters away is stone cold. It would be nice to have a larger working hot zone, even if just a little.

The flat bottom wok doesn't work with the flat induction? Is it an issue of the burner not detecting the wok?
@ray_mck
@ray_mck 5 ай бұрын
@@kb_100 the flat bottom wok works fine, but I personally get better results on the stand-alone unit. Also, the base is designed for pan motion. Moving a pan around directly in contact with an expensive glass cooktop is not something I do!

My biggest issue with induction for woks when you're not buying a standalone is that even decent quality woks have a tendency to round out and not stay flat anymore so it becomes even harder to use. I think the best thing is a gas stove, and an assortment of induction burners.
