This channel claims dairy cows are used and abused (or at least they look that way) but what's really going on?

My family use to dairy farm but I have switched to hogs and beef cattle. My dad recently sold his heard but ground beef from a diary cow was always the best because we would turn the whole cow into hamburger. So the steaks and ribs and all the other choice cuts became the best hamburger you could eat. Also growing up on a small dairy farm was the best way to grow up. Great life lessons learned all the time. Thanks for your videos.

Yup, family get meat from very high quality "family" cows, the GB is super high quality, and usually very lean.

I love Mildred!! She looks pretty good for an old lady and when I was vegetarian I was fed a LOT of misinformation. As I did research and thankfully listened, some vegans, vegetarians and activists do more harm than good. Almond milk for example. How many acres do we invade to pick the almonds - in another country. Then we need to ship those almonds to Canada (or US where you are). In another video, you mentioned corn. We can't eat all a corn plant. Cows can. We'd produce all those plants for a few ears of corn. Vegan cheese. REALLY? It's NOT CHEESE. It's a chemical shitstorm. Thank you for trying to educate us and keep doing a great job. BTW, I do miss working with dairy cows.

For people with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance, I'd recommend a nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor. It's a little bit of a "chemical shitstorm" because they do add vitamins to it to be more nutritionally valuable, but at least we know and can quantify what those nutrients are. It's good that options exist for folks with allergies, but I agree 100% that folks should be careful about not eating "chemical shitstorms" just because they don't like eating products that come from a cow. We should all do the best we can for the environment, and I love these videos because I never knew that dairy farms were actually helping "recycle" natural resources (things humans can't eat for example) instead of being a "drain". I'm not a huge fan of beef because red meat makes my stomach flip, but I'm happy to consume dairy any time. Yum!

@@crazybiogeek Well said. Those who do have allergies to dairy, try other products like oat or rice milk. They're locally sourced and put less strain on our environment due to transport. I do love dairy products!! Red meat makes my stomach "flip" if I eat too much of it now that I've started eating it again as well.

I'll drink almond milk, mainly because I like the taste better, but I don't avoid dairy. I have to eat small amounts because of how my body absorbs it for some reason, but I still love a cup of milk before bed

I really like how you dont put people down that you stitch videos with, and explain where they are right, where they are wrong, and why with both of right/wrong. You dont have a personality of better than someone, you truly educate the public, show a dairy farm and the love for your cows.❤

Actually should be considered a good thing. Kind of like whole hog sausage. An old sow that has been producing piglets for a number of years is generally used for "whole hog" sausage. You wouldn't use a younger hog for this whole hog sausage because it has some valuable cuts for roasts, hams and chops.

Question: Back in the 70's my father was a buyer for IBP (Iowa Beef Processors). He use to say that MacDonalds bought every Holsteen cow. You refer to Taco Bell often. - you are both saying the same thing: Omaha Steaks is not buying a lot of retired dairy cows. - I am enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work.

We milked for 27 years and had a cow that was expert at slapping you in the face.Mom threatened to eat her and one day had me take her to a local butcher had her cut up mostly hamburger. So mom had her revenge I guess.

Luv yah work mate. We don't have the weather extremes that you have. The dairy farms around me are all pasture grazed. All the best to you and the family from New Zealand.

As livestock judges say, in production dairy cows put the energy into milk, not so much muscle and fat. How many of Mildred's heifers are in your herd?

When I lived on the farm as a kid, I ate a lot of old dairy cows and bad bulls! At JBS Packerland Packing they use everything but the Moo!

So I thought you said most of your cows lived around 4 years? How did it happen that Mildred is still goimg strong at 14? I love your videos, I have learned so much!
@Goldenhawk5832 жыл бұрын
when did he say that? It was not said in this video. Factory farm cows, that are tied up all year and never get to move around, may not last longer than 5 years... but for those that at least let the cows move around, like here, or outside ( even better), these places have their cows for 3 times that long, sometimes more if the cow is still in good health and has no age related issues.
@secretsquirrel737411 ай бұрын
He's never said that, if they only live that long they'd be no point. They have their first calf at 2 years old which doesn't leave very long left for them to be producing milk.

People do need to be educated about this and other aspects of the dairy industry but when you see suswax kid bump a calf out of a wheelbarrow with little thought to it it makes you wonder. Not all cows don't care when you take the calf I have seen them run after them when they are taken away. That being said you do a great job just not all farmers should be farmers some loose their compassion for other living things
@crazybiogeek2 жыл бұрын
The farmers that treat their animals poorly do not get good profits from those animals. Better treatment = better farm products = better to make your living as a farmer. The farmers who treat animals poorly are few and far between.

What a fool that's how they look in age! Also our butcher told us that the meat of at least 6 year old cows is better because the muscles and flesh start to get softer

the dude in the first part of the video isn't wrong, but what happens is that the cow farmer got butt hurted and try to do a come back but made thing worst by saying " yes, those cows end up in taco bell meat" heres a tip for you the cow farmer if someone is spreding lies and non sense about you please dont respond or acknowledge anything the other person is saying because when you remain silent that means is not even bothering you because you are not part of that story but when someone pokes and pokes thats when you should remain calm.
