Found Beatport to be handy for research. I often when doing other things at home create a playlist from say a top 100 or curated playlist in Beatport. Then in Recordbox use the automix feature to play in the background. I then mark any tracks I like and want to use and buy if I want them.

Andrew, absolutely love your video! The only thing i dont like about streaming when compared to record pools is for beginner DJs, its hard finding "extended" versions of the tracks. Aside from that, streaming is awesone!

this is a new comment on an older video, i know. but i still think this is relevant. I started djing 10 years ago now, but a huge career move limited my potential in learning. now i am wanting to dj again, but i dont have a lot of cash flow or time to spend on delving into buying my music library. i have a few friends who run clubs in VRChat. they have inspired me to try DJing again. i just had a thought about music streaming integration. i think i can spare some money on another streaming service, and then just slowly buy the music that people seem to really like. and since i will be streaming my sets, and i have reliable internet, i think it could definitely help me out

I'll say this, I just had my first event last week, and I played at an event a friend of mine invited me to. The CDJs supposedly had streaming abilities, but when I got there they would not load ANYTHING. So thankfully, I had my usb. I just plugged in, loaded my tracks. And I was set :). Usually, the simpler things ar eless likely to break! Complex=more likely for something to go wrong

Now CDJ 3000s support Beatport streaming but still I feel it's not there where we can rely on that only. I prefer to have local files.

And I guess if you want to record a mix - to upload to mixcloud for instance - you have to own the tracks?

Mixed in key and platinum Notes dont work with streaming music and u cant move your Songs around in your dj Software. THX Adrew for this cool video iam so clad i bought your courses i already see Difference to my self taucht. Pls keep it up u do a great work
@lindsaycripps159711 ай бұрын
You can move Beatport music around in Recordbox. Don't know if that's possible in other software. Create a new empty playlist and drag the Beatport music into it. Then drag from that list. You can open them in export mode also and add cue points etc. Mixed in Key may work in that new playlist also.

what i didn’t like about soundcloud was all the poor quality ripoffs of common tracks, so you need to audition them before playing - which is difficult when playing live.
@Ryurex11 ай бұрын
Tidal works perfectly for that, soundcloud has low bitrate so it's to be expected and, u can always buy the tracks or ask the artist for a download. As a Pirate I can do a lot more.

Hey, i was wondering if you can make a video like "How to understand if you are ready for your first gig". Which skills should a dj have and master before his first gig and maybe you can add a practice like "if you can do these practice then you are ready". It would be awesome. Im still trying to figure out if im good enough to perform to my friends at a party but i dont know if im ready and if not, i dont know what do i need to do to be ready.

Your friends party is the perfect place for a first gig. The most important job of the DJ is to play music the party wants to hear. Practice mixing a little bit, learn to count beats and bringing in the new song at the appropriate beat. If it’s open format don’t worry about mixing too much. Just practice, go out there and do it. You will flub parts up, that’s normal and a learning experience. Have fun, every DJ had their first gig once. Just make the leap and you’ll be fine.

@@TommyR919 Thanks for the answer m8. We had a great time, the only question that is in my mind is which song to play next and which one to start the party. I made a playlist for myself and there is around 45~ songs but not all of them is the same genre, so sometimes after one song, i dont know what to play next but i think i'll get used to it after some experience.

@@poi3489great to hear the party went well! As far as what song to start with, that is a great question I ask myself a lot ha. I definitely would play something that everyone knows and is upbeat, but not a banger that would be better suited once the dance floor is full. As far as learning to know what to play next, that’s the fun of it all right? I will say, as soon as you start a new song you should be thinking about what you’ll play next. One tip is to sort the playlist by BPM, and steadily raise the BPM for a few songs in a row before dropping the BPM back down and starting over. Just a tip to give an idea of what to play next.

The irony pf you bringing out this video, the same day Pioneer DJ emails me with a free 2 month Beatport link. I'll stick to tracks I own, I can play anywhere, rather than rent tunes to stream. I'm sure the kids will buy into it but I'm too old & wise to get into this future, where you'll own nothing & be happy.

Do you know the physics of how information is stored in a computer? Because that's what you "own"
@SeattleDjs6 ай бұрын
You can try it out for free. Then make the decision of if you like it. Plus you can still buy music if you want. But this way you are able to only actually buy what tracks work and you want forever? I have found that some tracks I really thought I would like and play over and over, I get tired of pretty quick. The other thing I noticed streaming, is that I can mix in a short part of a track and probably never use it again. I wouldn't have had that in my mix otherwise, because I never would have bought it for a 20 second loop. But you can tell in some of my mixes, I could probably be better at Djing if I had more preparation and practice with the tracks. I think streaming made me a bit less structured. But at least that is something I know I can work on.

Beatport is pretty pricey for the full subscription, but I still spend less than I did before per year. I probably play 300 tracks a month. But that includes the playlists I listen to on the mobile application while mowing lawn, housework, and even at work. It is night and day to be able to actually listen to all of the music you plan on playing while no where near a computer or Dj equipment and not spend $300 to $800 a month. Plus the offline locker allows for more than enough space to have all tracks analyzed and load instantly just like owning them would. Instead of streaming.
