No matter what is claimed on a package, no matter what the specifications are, the proof of usefulness and durability is in the using. I have a pair of Knipex "Alligator" multi slip-joint pliers from the 1970s, before the "Cobra" appeared. I've used and abused them on a job as a plumber, as a maintenance man, and since then on home repairs, auto repairs, and working on ragged older motorcycles. They work, they don't break, and they were worth every penny that my poor man's "shallow" pockets dug deep and paid for them. I've never regretted this purchase. That being said, the Engineers' pliers may be equally as good, or possibly even better. However, I doubt that I will ever find out, as I don't ever expect to replace my reliable Knipex pliers. My son is in his 40s now, and I expect that this pair of pliers that's older than he is, will survive him too. Perhaps his son will need to replace them. Thanks for a great video. Best regards, Dean

10:05 -- you want that "deflection" when you squeeze down on the handles to grip something because it acts like a spring to hold tension on what you're attempting to grip and rotate.
@thingsmen

I agree to an extent, but overly flexing can be dangerous. These are a bit more "flexy" than i am comfortable with.

man this is getting close to what i really want which would be a 150mm sized one and perhaps a simple wire cutter...my cobras are my most used tool at work

Yea, you should check these out. These adjustables don't usually have cutters.

Looks like an exciting product release, but agree that it could use a bit more refinement. I think I also agree that the Knipex has better slightly better ergonomics, but I'd also really love to see the Engineer use their Nejisaurus molded comfort grips, rather than that simple dipped handle. I personally really like Knipex's ergo handles, though I admittedly haven't had the opportunity to compare it to their dipped grips. But, I don't mind the extra bulk for sake of added comfort. While I suppose it's not strictly a make-or-break feature to be able to only need to apply pressure to a single handle, I feel like the Knipex's ability to do so means the tool is doing more work for you, which means less stress and effort on your part. Interesting that the PZ-81's failed at that task despite their hardness and apparently similar design, but I guess the devil is really in those minute details of tooth angle and jaw geometry. Regardless, I think the screw extractor feature is otherwise super handy, so that plus it being half the price will keep me considering adding it to my collection. I just wonder how long before they iterate on the design - if ever.

The PZ-81’s swing pretty high but yes more refinement is still needed. They don’t quite have the same stability as their Knipex counterparts. However their screw extraction definitively puts them in their own field. I don’t think there will be any major changes anytime soon. I’ve come across some information that I might have to do another video in the near future. Stay tuned.

Both companies manufacture excellent tools - I'd take the Knipex Cobra over the PZ-81. I have the Engineer PZ-58 screw removal pliers which are an excellent tool. The Knipex Twin-Grip 82 01 200 is a similar tool on steriods. The Knipex pliers-wrench is an insanely remarkable designed tool.
@thingsmen
@thingsmen Жыл бұрын
They both do a great job. Knipex has set the standard for pipe wrenches so that will be difficult for others to match. The PZ-81 is still a great tool it just needs some refinement in a couple areas.

I would have killed for a set of those Engineer pliers when my washing machine sprung a leak a while back. Beside gripping screws, the jaw design lets you grab on to other oddly shaped things that normal flat jaws don't, like spring hose clamps. I had to replace a hose that was way up in a weird corner of the machine. Normal pliers kept slipping off the clamp and there was no room for hose clamp pliers. Those angled Engineer pliers with their screw gripping jaw design would have been the ticket.

I like having that screw remover end on some box-joint pliers like this - hopefully they'll make a 150mm (pocket sized) version....or maybe KNIPEX will produce something similar. It would be nice to have that feature on a small pair of Cobras.

Yeah I don't see the value of these over the cobras. If I were to want to do screw extracting maybe I would consider the regular linemans version of the engineers PZ59s, or probably even better their vise grips version PZ65/66s so you can lock onto the screw head. Even twin grips seem like a good option. These just seem like channellocks with a locking feature for sizing. A big meh from me.

Fair points. They do a couple things well for being slip joint pliers but I find them lacking in other areas as well. Thanks for commenting.

Ill go for japanese brand of tools than german made that are overly-rated…and i really dont understand why some people used that kind of pipe pliers instead of traditional pipe wrench which you have much better grip and bite on a tubular steel…thats laziness…

I strongly suggest buying the Engineer brand and NOT Vamplier. Vamplier will not honor their claimed warranty unless you just happen to have saved your 4 year old receipt. And Engineer is less expensive and makes Vamplier. So don't buy Vamplier.
