One of the reasons I like five round fights is because the 10 point must scoring system is so terrible over three rounds. If the round duration is ever edited I think it needs to be ediited along side the scoring system. When boxing went from 15 to 12 rounds the scoring system was fine. It was still plenty of rounds to get a clear winner. That cant be said in modern MMA.

Love this discussion. Big love to Big John. The UFC reminds me of Marilyn Manson's song "Dope Show." In the song it says they love you when you're on all the covers, when you're not then they're loving another. I get the feel that UFC wants other faces to promote and wants Cyborg out of the picture. As a free agent she will kill it.
@martinekelund61045 жыл бұрын
You have a valid point Chael. I dont even consider the health aspect but it is kind of insane that championship fights are 5 rounds and normal fights are 3 rounds. A fighter can have a skillset he put to use to earn a titlebout and now suddenly his skillset is degraded because of the importance of a good cardio. It is almost like changing the sport. Imagine if it was the case in soccer. You played regular matches and then "big final" matches that are 40% longer giving the physical teams a huge advantage.....it's absolutely insane. If an organisation wanted to use 5 rounds they should introduce an entirely new variant to the weight-classes. Then one could compete for the belt in e.g. Heavyweight 3 rounds, 5 rounds or even in 7 rounds. That would be kind of interesting to see if any fighter was so well-rounded that he could get the belt in all of the different kind of fight distances.

@timhyatt725 жыл бұрын
@@kamikazekrush3758 that's not the issue, Cyborg knows the clock is ticking, and so does the UFC. Cyborg wants a couple easier fights(under contract) along with title challenges, it's a way to prolong things. The UFC wants every fight she has left (under contract,)to be a barn burner, knowing her revenue stream is going to dry up. It's a business move, Dana doesn't want that part of the business to be known. He makes it personal, so the fighters won't focus, on the shitty business end of things. They are in short, afraid the fighters will unionize. Unfortunately there's nothing Cyborg can do about it, it would take all the fighters to change things, and alphas don't have a great track record, of organizational problem solving. Lol

You would need an odd number of rounds and judges in order to reach a decision. And like Chael stated previously that not all fights are scheduled for 5 rounds at 5 minutes each, that is reserved only for championship fights and main events.However the fight is only in the fighters hands so the faster you finish your opponent the less rounds you gotta compete. Same for all combat sports. At that point you would be leaving it in the hands of the judges.....

Wouldn't reducing the number of rounds force someone, who knows they are definitely going to lose in case of a decision, to fight more recklessly, whereas more rounds might give them more time to catch up. So in a 5 round fight even if they lose the first two they have three more to make up for that but if its three rounds they will only be focusing on getting that win and get themselves hurt trying.
