I have owned 2 GSD's over the last 20 years. One being a Police Academy flunky (failed the last test-sitting until commanded otherwise). Both were/are extremely intelligent animals, but more than being intelligent, they can read a room full of people. As far as being around children goes, I 100% trust my German Shed around a child over any dog I've ever owned, to include two Golden Retrievers that I adored & loved more than anything. But Goldens, despite their cute appearance and overall happy go lucky attitude, they bite. You dont have to take my word for it, The Golden Retriever was responsible for more bites than any other breed. Most being small children. They tolerate a ton but when enough is enough they tend to react poorly, briefly, but poorly. Germans just tend to get up and walk off. It's all how you raise em. Raise em with love and you'll get the same in return. Raise em with fear in their hearts and you will end up with an unpredictable doggo.

We raised our kids with a GSD. Rocky was so good. Now we have Luke . He loves kids and puppies. He isn't always sure about big dogs, even though he is bigger than most

I have to disagree although I do agree with what you did say. I see people put so much accountability on the pet and not themselves. No 2 pets are alike just as humans. It's the pet owner and pet that determine safety but the primary responsibility is on the pet owner. Just like there are many people who with 100% certainty believe that they've "trained their dog to be off leash" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That may be the case in a controlled environment but keep adding stimuli (in addition to the unknown) and see what happens. I think people should stop focusing so much on the type of breed an animal is and direct more inquiries to the pet owner. They'll let you know how responsible they are almost immediately.
