Induction cooktops and hobs if made in India, will be much cheaper and the cost be equivalent to gas hobs. The only factor is the cost of copper in the international market. What has the cost of copper to do with it? The core of the induction cooking is the induction coil made of pure copper and it takes a lot of copper wire to make one such coil to produce magnetic fields in ferrous material above Sowmya, another aspect is that Induction cooktops won't work on regular house invertors/UPS which are typically 800-1500 KVA, not even a singler burner/stove

Thank you very much for providing the math behind it. Much needed. I've been using an induction cooktop (1.1kW) for all of my cooking now. It saves a lot of time and the best part is setting the timer. The problem arises only if there's a power cut. It's neat and easy to maintain too 🙂

Nice! Informative as usual. For folks who cannot afford hobs or don't have space for one like me - single induction stoves are a better and cheaper alternative as they can be mobile. Ever since the cylinder cost crossed 800 have switched to induction for cooker and any other cooking that has liquids in it. Of course, existing gas setup is alive and well as they are indispensable in India....unless you live in Mumbai I guess. Also in most cases we dont really have to go for 2000W induction stoves....less than 1500W are ideal - particularly for couples or those with very young kids. Entry point is around 1500 INR.

Great detailed information on induction hob. Another question is the maximum diameter of a vessel can each of the induction burners take. Usually when one purchases an induction cooktop, the maximum diameter of the utensils that can be used is given. So is there such a parameter with hobs as well?
@TheGrapevineIndia
@TheGrapevineIndia 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sreelakshmi, yes there is. In general - it is equivalent or smaller than the gas burners. Infact, recently I saw a 4 zone induction hob that has the 'burners' so close that it's barely possible to keep a large utensil.

@@TheGrapevineIndia Hi Saumya, interesting to know that. But it might become popular in the future in India. I read somewhere on the internet that certain US cities are banning gas appliances in newly built buildings. Regarding the wattage, it might be possible to install in newly built buildings as compared to older building. Also what would be the electricity bill?

Thank you so so much for providing the information of comparison between gas and induction hob, I was in dilemma if I have to consider an induction hob or not to upgrade my kitchen. From your video I verified my sanction load to my flat is 3KW so should I go for the induction hob or not please suggest ? Want to add 2 additional issues which we face in LPG which are resolved in induction are 1) You can open the windows and doors while cooking on the induction because there wont be any flame which can impact based on wind. Flame movement based on wind in tall apartments and well ventilated apartments may impact cooking. 2) If we place 2 vessels side by side and if we start cooking the flame intersection area will heat both vessels fast at that part it will be burnt out fast and which resulted lot of my times in our cooking with burnt smell in the cooked items.
@TheGrapevineIndia
@TheGrapevineIndia Жыл бұрын
Hi Kiran, great point about the windows. I face that too in my kitchen. If you have an extra electricity phase, you can. Otherwise, it is not advisable with 3KW. You can try a 2 zone cooktop like Elica - but that also takes more than 3kw I think.

Hello. I was wondering one thing...why is it that the only things that come up on Amazon when searching for Induction...are those single zone induction cooktops? And the ONLY induction "things" that are multizone(the Bosch ones)...require cutting of tiles 😭. I just want a 2 zone Induction (more zones would help though) that I can plug in and place on top of the kitchen countertop(yeah it won't look as sexy as if it was flush...but I don't really care about that) without cutting any granite or something 😅 budget is not an issue. I am unable to find any Induction cooktops that are even two zone(and don't require tile cutting)😭 Love your videos by the way. They are super helpful when it comes to deciding what appliances make sense , especially in the Indian context. 😊

Hi Avi! Thanks for your feedback and sorry about the delay in response :( Yeah the multi zone induction hobs do require cutting of the counter top as they are generally hobs and tend to be flush.

A 2100 watt top notch philips induction cooktop costs 3k. I dont think I will be wasting my money on induction hobs especially since their power consumption is so high. With rising cylinder costs, low efficiency and environment friendliness, I am rethinking about buying a 3 burner hob and im just going to transition to cooking on my convection oven and induction cooktop for now. That's all I need. Going to use my old 2 burner stove during power cuts only.

You missed the fact that the induction hob, be it electric or gas is more dangerous. The glass. Heard of many glass stoves exploding. Be it hob or glass stove top. As for gas cylinder explosion, you need to have it outside of your kitchen. Do a gas pipeline instead. Only thing with cylinder is just check if the cylinder you get is fine every time and check if the rubber tube is hole-free. Then you have no worries. I have seen multiple cases of glass top explosions compared to gas cylinder explosions. This is because of the condensation dripping from the pot/pressure cooker onto the burning hot glass. The water touches and it goes boom. You literally cannot cook with this constant fear. Can't even boil water. Check "Glass gas stove explosion". More than a cylinder explosion. I trust gas stainless steel stovetops more. Indians use heavy-weight pressure cookers which are not ideal for these induction tops. Seen tons of cracked induction single stoves in the repair store. Plus there is also cookware warping. Which won't happen in a stove with gas flames. Max you get a burnt pan which you can deglaze and clean off. The induction base if it doesn't match the diameter of the pan/pot you are cooking with, it's a goodbye to that cookware within a month. Cause induction heat is very fast even with lower temp compared to gas. And yes as you said, induction cookwares are more expensive. Plus cannot cook with induction-friendly cast iron, extremely heavy for fragile glass tops. Even with gas hob it's still glass on the bottom. The weight at the end, is on the glass. The upfront cost+Maintenance (Checking fee once a year+the frequent power cuts = not ideal for India) The westerners use these induction hobs cause electricity is dirt cheap for them. Gas is way more expensive. For us both is expensive. I have a single-use portable induction stove. Love it. But no I don't cook with it. Only boil water or tea carefully.

@@user-cr6qv1bn2u No. Even expensive ones have busted. The science behind it is the problem. In western countries or western manufactured ones there isn't issues but in India made ones, huge issues. Many people invest a ton and it explodes. Even ones costing 70k are busting. There is an associated risk. The glass explosion risk is not a problem in stainless steel stove tops. Why create more risk?

Domt know about induction hobs but cooking on single induction stove is very Tiresome & difficult. I dont hv all glass stove so hv to keep watch nothing spills over tne plastic panel and buttons. pressure cooking doesnt work good, even after one and half hours of pressure cooker cooking chana was not properly cooked. Deep frying is not possible, chapati us difficult to make, . Induction cooking is Not viable for Indian cuisine. Worst part is Heat comes and goes and can feel the throbbing current in the pot handle. Camt trust indiction cookers

Not considering efficiencies for calculating costs for heating up water leads to large variation in the actual result. In your case it flips your outcome. It is actually cheaper to heat water using an induction cooktop than a gas burner. Your calculations show that it costs ₹6.24 for induction and ₹4.48 for gas. But since you have so much efficiency-based energy loss it actually costs ₹8.32 for induction and ₹11.2 for gas to get 10L of water from 30C to 100C (Here I used the efficiencies as 40% for gas and 70% for induction based on the numbers you shared in the video.) This changes your summary where you say induction cooktops may not be for someone only looking at costs. Induction cooktops are almost always cheaper to run than gas.
