As many of you will already be aware, there is a HUGE movement in the industry at the minute, focussing on automated KH monitoring, and the latest brand to join the party is Reef Factory.
Following on from our 'Introducing Reef Factory' video, lots of you asked for a closer look or review of their new KH Keeper Plus. Well - this is it!
After setting up a KH Keeper Plus on our Innovative Marine Lagoon 50 aquarium, we headed to the sofa to chat about how easy we thought the process was, the key features of the KH Keeper & to discuss whether automated KH testing and dosing could be for you, and also the wider question, is KH monitoring here to stay??

Had mine since release, I swapped out my GHL KH Director and wow what a difference. The KHKeeper + I so much more stable and a doddle to set up. Everything is accessible so maintenance is a dream.

I bought mine about 4 months ago. There's been little glitches along the way but the support from the company and users Facebook page is good. My one criticism is that there is insufficient information about the best means of adjusting actions to obtain a stable alkalinity level. After 4 months I'm still trying different things to achieve that flat line. Of course a lot depends upon how flat you want that line. If your happy with 0.2-0.3 dkH range then its pretty easy. But some hints and tips would be great!

What manual tests did you compare the results to and how close were they? I have a Kh Keeper with the upgraded PH Probe and even after multiple calibrations it’s quite a way off my Hanna checker, and varies how different the two are on each test.

Hi guys, I’ve just watched a video where the KH Keeper plus was paired with the 3 channel dosing pump and the guy was adding actions if the test was above or below the desired parameters. 1 channel was ALK and the other 2 were CAL and MAG and he was adjusting the dosing for all 3 channels just based a KH test, my question is how can you adjust CAL and MAG just based on an ALK test or does the KH Keeper provide results for CAL and MAG?

Hey guys, how are you preparing the diluted KH reagent? if I want to mix 10ml of the concentrated reagent with 90ml of RO water, should I use the included pocket scale and mix 10ml = 10*1.026 = 10,26g of reagent with 90ml = 90*1.026 = 92.34g of RO? Thanks a lot in advance. Best regards, Gabriel

I have a reef factory thermo-controller and a dosing pump, great so far. Its good that they have the UK plug now in the heater/cooler plug socket. Would I want to return the test water to my 20 gallon nano aquarium? It would be interesting to see your lagoon now please?

I guess the smaller the aquarium the higher the concentration of reagent once added back into tank. Not sure if there is a cut off in terms of size that Reef Factory would recommend is too small an aquarium to return too. Maybe Coral Compass or Reef Factory could answer that. Will try and post some Lagoon pics this week!

@@CharterhouseTV Returning waste water to the aquarium should not cause any adverse effects. The HCL solution is diluted 9:1 and only c7ml of Reagent is used in each test so the effects will be minimal. By directing test water to a waste container the salinity would most likely rise in a smaller aquarium as each test sample is 50ml, and depending on how many times you test during the day, could exceed evaporation

I have been reefing for 25 years and even started with the old undergravel filter, this whole thing is getting ott and makes the manufacturers a fortune. All I do is a 10% weekly water change and “all for reef”, everything is popping still if people want to waste money it’s a personal thing, love your company though, good selection.

I don’t have a PH probe, so would love to see a video on that to help twist my arm. 😉
