As a Korean Canadian I was very upset watching that video from Tzuyyang because my besties are Filipinos. I told this incident to my dad and he wasnt very happy to hear once again Korean people mocking / thinking SouthEast Asian people are "Lower" than they are. There are older/newer generations who doesnt think like that. Please know that not everyone thinks like that and treats like that. My dad said "Most Koreans have forgotten the reason why we are able to live a peaceful life is because of those soldiers coming to the strange place fighting for freedom for strange people and helping those people to win the war. We cannot act like that to the ones who helped us when we were poor. We cannot forget our history because once you forget your history its going to repeat again and again because we humans make the same mistakes over and over." I know that my apologies dont mean anything but I am really sorry and I wish people arent like that in Korea. I mean... Koreans do that one another. Just because you're different or you are korean canadian they treat like an outsider. I wish things were different hopefully things will change 🍀

TBH, Koreans (not all) are racist and their perspective about Filipinos are very low. They think they're superior because S. The answer is Yes. Majority of South Koreans *do* look down on other people, especially those who come from underdeveloped countries. It’s really sad to see that people are behaving like this and it’s awful how people are trying to normalise xenophobia. Although, let’s not generalise an entire group of people just because you’ve experienced or met bad people. Remember, there is bad people in every countries, including the Philippines.

I'm Filipino American and I have no room to talk because I talk with goofy accents all the time. Only thing I find offensive is eating a bunch food infront of a camera and talking with food in your mouth.

i just want to raise this as no one mentioned this in the interviews: it's how the language was portrayed and acted upon by anyone around it. if you watched all the Filipino videos speaking Tagalog in Korean accent, you can see that most of the people's reaction is amazement on how it was achieved since we like the language yet when it was Koreans trying to speak Tagalog, it is more on "mockery" and made fun of. we can't really wash our hands in this matter since Filipinos are also racist against our own so if we encounter these kind of videos, there's always an option of just ignoring it rather than fueling it with nasty comments. let's not ruin our relationship with other countries just because there are some citizens who mocks other nationalities. let's all practice what Pablo of SB19 said: ALWAYS CHOOSE TO BE KIND.

Clearly, these racist Koeans haven't talked to these smart kids. Filipinos, specially the educated young generation, are smart enough to understand that there's racism. Even Kpop and Kdrama fans are aware of this, it is just that they're fans of the art and the artists rather than the general Korean population. I remember I talked to a group of young Korean university male students who came here to tour - one of the reasons why they chose Philippines to travel first is not just beacuse of its cheap price and beautiful beaches, they were confident that they can hook up with girls easily - they were laughing by saying Filipina women "worship" Koreans no matter how they look like as long as they're Koreans. I actually regret hanging out with those guys. That's how low they think of Filipina women,and Philippines in general. So they think if they mock the accent (which by the way they come here to learn English), or tastes of local food, they get a pass. Anyhow, this does not apply to all Koreans or Filipinos. The Koreans who have met or become close to Filipinos tend to be kinder, more accepting and open-minded. However, most Korean friends I have had pre-determined "negative" stereotypes of Filipinos in general. So, thank you EL, for having this video. This is my favorite El's Planet video so far. Got the point but what gets to people including myself is when accents are used in a condescending manner or to make fun of to reinforce a narrative that a certain group of people are lesser or below than another group of people or in this case ethnicity.

... there's this kpop idol that was bashed early this year because he didn't have a "white" skin. One published comment said something about being like a worker in the Philippines. One remark about the food vlog that used the PH flag was clickbaiting. I didn't see the post of the guy you mentioned. What was irritating is that they are making fun of the English accent of Filipinos when their English accent is not better. If they are making fun of the accent when speaking Tagalog or Visayan, I would have found it funny; at least they studied the language!

i think both parties are at wrong here. meron at merong racist between ethnicities, we all should learn from this. personally, i didn't like what tzuyang did, nor the cc guy who mimick the korean accent for the laughs. sabi nga nila diba "do not do to others kung ano ayaw mong gawin sa'yo". as for this racist korean guy, jyoonsang, i get how he's upset for being sexualized. but he doesn't have to single out filipinos like that. our fellow filipinos are not his only audience, he have a lot of other ethnicities watching and following his content too and suddenly it was all filipinos? that's why he was called out. also, you could not just blame filipinos or any other ethnicities for that, it's also their system of selling idols and their media portrayal of korean men being perfect that's why they're overly fetishized, not just in asia but all over the world as well. so to actually call filipinos out like that, like we are always the ill-mannered and uneducated people, it's unacceptable. 😢

Just my opinion. Every country in the world has the tendency to be racist. Even the "nicest" countries have racists. Even us Filipinos are also sometimes racists. We just don't realize it. Racism has different forms. It can be overt racism where it is intentional. But the most common type is one when you're unknowingly doing/saying something racist. Educating ourselves is key.

im proud of these young adults. here in NZ, Filipino workers are highly appreciated with their work ethics and characteristics, they said super on the top, few of my husband's students in his class, which can be categorized as families with money, would often say, I wish we could have workers that are all Filipinos in their business.😊

I'm East Asian, I have to admit we definitely look down on South East Asians in general. This case is not even that offensive. You won't believe what Koreans really say about Filipinos. I have heard things that can't be written here.

Like the call center Filipino guy who imitated a "Korean accent" using Tagalog, it's fine. But when other race imitates the Filipino accent in a joking manner, Filipinos get mad. Or when somebody made a food review of a traditional Filipino food but didn't quite like the taste, and made an unfavorable review... other Filipinos get annoyed and bash

I'm one of those people who make fun of other races, especially if something terrible has occurred to me. Like the national anthem "Lupang Hinirang" says, the conqueror will not oppress you. We Filipinos are compassionate, but please refrain from harming us. You are going to have an unpleasant experience.

This is my point all along. It's sad that others are being racists towards us Filipinos, but before saying anything back to them, we Filipinos should also reflect back on ourselves on how we do and treat things. We say something when Koreans are being racists towards us particularly, but what we don't notice is we also do that kind of "racism" things even towards our fellow Filipinos. The mocking towards indigenous people, racist comments towards Black foreigners, and even the discrimination and stereotyping about mga Bisaya. Even those Korean mocking accents, we find those funny or "nakakatuwa" but we cry foul when Koreans do the exact same things towards us. FILIPINOS ARE RACISTS TOWARDS THEIR OWN PEOPLE.

I agree! Most people in SEA tend to compare their appearance with East Asians. It’s kinda sad how people are discriminated by their appearance and the country they’re from (specifically if they’re from underdeveloped countries (yet being proud of where you’re originally from is truly something that cannot be exchanged) but however, not everyone is involved in. There’s still nice people around! Even in my country (Myanmar - formerly Burma), there’s still racism/criticism which is a common issue specifically on online lately. The discrimination towards skin colours are one of the common issues around here as well. Due to the excessive heat and sunlight all across SEA, most typical individual’s skin colour gradually goes burnt/dark, yet they received negative criticism for that. I, myself have never experienced that but I’ve seen some people getting attacked online/irl. From my perspective, most Asians in reality don’t show obvious racism unlike Western people. (at least what I’ve seen on the internet and I might be wrong!) But we’re able to figure out if one’s criticising others by witnessing at their glare, facial expressions, and through gossiping. (Criticising doesn’t always mean something bad tho!) I’ve seen a video about how the majority of Filipinos are affected by creams which believed to whiten their skin colours but instead leading to dangers in life. Things could’ve gone even worsen, honestly. I have Filipino friends as well as seen Filipinos foreigners in my area. Truth be told, I couldn’t even distinguish as if they’re from here until they disclose themselves. (We SEAs have identical appearances) I adore my neighbouring countries regardless of ongoing conflicts and disputations going around online which I’m not fond of at all, alongside policial issues as well. Honestly, no country/people is safe from racism. If you’re a true human being, you will at least have done criticising someone by looking at their appearance, and that’s a common thing! (I admit I have done as well) The only difference would be if propaganda is spread across the world about a country, people mostly would see the negative side of it and no longer accepting the truth. One apparent example would be China. People might’ve gone negative due to politics but in reality, ordinary citizens living there don’t have nothing to do with it and does not deserve hate. However, China surely have good sides as well as bad ones within the country besides politics as well, and the same goes to every country in the world. Each country has its own good/negative sides and the way every one of them is not treated equally is due to the rising media which became the main source to people’s attention. If the media talks about good aspects more, that country would be recognised, loved, and received more popularity/attention. If they do the opposite, that’s when the real issue comes in. Example, if you ask a foreigner who doesn’t live in Asia about countries in Asia, they’re more likely to respond countries within East Asia (first/only) than other parts of Asia (South, Southeast, Middle East, Central, Western) whereas they are mostly not recognised and might’ve received discrimination unlike the ones that are well-known. That leads to the conclusion here, which is that not every individual is being taken part in these situations. Nice people do exist in the real world! Every country existing in this world has its both the good and the bad sides/people! Not everyone is gonna agree with me, but you’re free to share your own perspectives and thoughts! :) Stay positive!!

We Filipinos are one of the most racist nationals, yet we're too onion-skinned. Indeed, most East Asians are indifferent towards us SEA people, however, it's a comedy skit that Filipino comedians do as well in a regular basis. How sensitive can we get? When our comedians mock other nation's accent or language, we deem it as an ethnic humor , we laugh pa nga, pero pag tayo na ang ginawan ng ganun, racism na and we suddenly got crabby? Our victim mentality card has really been useful these days, no?

I think Filipinos are forgetting that there was a time when S. Koreans used a Philippine flag as mop and one of them even peed and burned the flag.

I'm Korean and it's not like Koreans call Korea as " Hell-Joseon" for no reason. Korea is competitive, and people are judgemental. Koreans are insecure and always struggling with so much pressure. There are racists (more like classists) in Korea but then there are many people who are socially aware. So hope you don't generalize the whole nation. By the way, the type of classism is everywhere in the world. The amount of racism I personally recieved in so-called first world countries were actual violent crimes. People looked down on Koreans 20 years ago or even 10 years ago in the US when I was there. Teachers treated us unfairly and they made fun of us for eating Kimchi. I don't think human is capable of respect unless people(opressed) build themselves up. Screaming about racism doesn't bring respect, in my experience. You need to get rid of corruption, and internal issues related to your economy and politics in order to gain respect in the world. Korea struggled so much internally to get where we are. Kimchi was considered a subject of mockery (it still is) for a long time untill Korea produced cars and electronics and set some global standard through democracy. I think this is the path Phillipines need to take. Kimchi is now considered "healthy" food that Korea is rich. How ironic.

I really dont think chinese are as racist towards south east asians, many of my relatives love thailand and thai food. China is colorist like koreans to a lesser extent but they dont apply racism to the beauty standard. i didn’t know about that viral video of call center agent mocking their accent it’s really disturbing knowing that they do that like it’s funny and should be normal. But there’s this one time i was listening to radio (idk which station it was) they were using this k-accent to promote(?) the station or do the intro(?) when I heard that i just went wtf??? why are they even allowing this?? this is straight up racism cause I swear anyone who would’ve heard that will really find it disturbing. I wanted to call the station that they should change it but idk their number and what station it was but seriously tho they gotta educate themselves and stop being ignorant

there's a difference between mocking an accent full of malice, and imitating an accent in good fun. I think what we need to learn, is that when one person of a particular heritage disparage filipinos as a whole, that we don't have to do the same thing and generalize his/her heritage. We need to isolate the person speaking as himself, and his opinions.

Focus on creating business, focus, dont mind other race or country. Words are just words, it is not important, what is important is to get our economy up, create more jobs. Always remember the world is not a fairytale, it is not a fair world so stop seeking for fairness, we will have bad people good people, people who make fun of others and people who can not take jokes. What matters is having more businesses and jobs here in the Philippines, be entreprenuer from restaurants, producing raw materials, clothing fashion lines, and many more business ideas. For me, mimicking an accent is not racist. This type of comedy has been around for centuries. Even we, Filipinos mimick Visayan accent. It will only be racist if the accent is associated or used to describe how low class people talk. We should think harder and try not to be too sensitive, especially with our generation now they are clouded with the real concept of racism because of clout and social media. Being too woke is not good either. Real racism exists, but this is not it.

Akala mo naman ang mga tagalog hindi ginagaya ang accent nga mga bisaya. Mi namock din nila ang kapwa nila Pilipino. Lahat ng sinasabi nila nag reflect did sa kanila. Una, bakit? As if walang accent ang mga Koreans. Pangalawa, people need to take a DEEP DIVE on how the so called Filipino stereotype came about. One of them is economic hardship experienced by many specially those in the bottom socio-economic structure.

It's not even just the accent it's also degrading and generalizing filipino women who married korean men portraying it as "manggagamit" to leave a comfortable life outside Ph. The difference with the accent is there's not even the slightest bit of mockery behind it, filipinos idolize the korean culture and think their language and overall how they talk is cute but our accent has been made as a laughing stock in Korea ever since and there are even old clips from tv shows that resurfaced online of how bad the racism is about it.

Yes, some are racist/some feel superior, but not all SK people (or let's just say majority keep everything in their minds because really nobody knows for sure). I lived in SK for 4 years and had 1st hand experience. These are just minor things (because it is not always) that can just be ignored. You just prove to them that you are more than what they think of you. Ex. like how good you are with your job. Your colleagues will protect you if you encounter one.
