WOW, this is SCARY! What do you think, are luxury brands lying to us to sell more?

No wonder! We reveal our thoughts here on social media, talking about FOMO, unicorn bags, handbag journeys etc. So we all make it easy for the companies to do their research and discover our weak points in order to exploit them. They donˋt have to hire psychologists.

I do believe brands do this stuff. A few years ago I bought an LV favorite. I called my store before heading in to see if it was in stock, and the associate said it was. When I arrived (very shortly later), I was told it wasn’t available. I told them I was told it was there and came in to purchase it and they argued with me that it wasn’t… anyway, the associate I spoke to on the phone ended up hearing the conversation and sold me the bag, which was very much in stock. It was such an odd experience, and I really think they were just creating false scarcity.

I worked in retail and sales so I definitely understand it, but I have major issues with this. 1. They scare EXISTING customers into panic purchasing by saying it's sold out/rare. 2. They try to discourage NEW customers by not allowing them to buy classics unless they have a purchase history. It's extremely disappointing because I see this as a sad attempt to control not what they are selling but who they are selling to. They no longer want to be a luxury item that people save and splurge on as a reward but rather a common item for the uber rich and an impossible item for everyone else. Sorry but if you have to gatekeep who can buy your bags to maintain your luxury brand status, it's because your quality doesn't speak for itself and there's no other way for you to remain exclusive. I have better quality and service from brands that are in the $500-$2000 range, and from independent artisans and leatherworkers who do custom jobs. Luxury brands know they don't have anything else to offer now!

I just subscribed to your channel. I've experienced a " scare tactic" with LV. She told me the item I wanted was probably not coming back... I ordered something else. Checked back a few hours later and the original item I wanted was back in stock 🙄

I've been in sales all of my life. Pressure closing is a standard. ALWAYS give yourself thinking time. I feel that we are enabling brands such as Hermes and Chanel to practice the " quota bag" rubbish by behaving as we do as consumers. Who would ever go to Sainsburys and be nice to a member of staff in the hope of being "offered" a loaf of bread?!

I dont know about the UK, but in the US, this is a common marketing/sales tactic for a variety of products that EVERYONE is familiar with (i.e., “while supplies last,” “supplies are limited,” etc.) & we know to just disregard it. Whether it’s legal or not is another matter, however, I’ve never heard of a sales consultant specifically saying they’re reserving something for you while it may not be true…that seems to be a step-up in the “misrepresentation” strategy. Nothing surprises me anymore.

We should just enjoy what we have instead of just keep buying new ones.. too many coming out

I agree with the comments. If I am buying something I need to have appropriate costumer service. The power is not on THEM but on ME. It’s my wallet my money my purchases. Good advice about brands.Many places do the scare factor,trying to put the pressure on,so you will buy on the spot,or preorder to purchase an item from handbags to clothing, shoes,makeup ect.It's all abt merchandising. Many companies do this,many salespeople have a quota to meet,unfortunately some use this scare factor,it's really pushy..... I think, ,I 've seen it done quite a bit in retail.I'm glad you brought this up because many get pressured,even sales knowing they are taking advantage of others.A lot of young buyers get stung,wanting thier first luxury purchase,I feel they take advantage of people when they use the notion that it will be sold out..and..how desirable this item is.I hope your message gets through to anyone put in this situation... and it's not just the young buyers,it could be anyone.Great video. Yes, chanel is 😂 and I’m pretty sure that’s the brand you’re talking about since they are the ones doing the crazy rules and price increases. I’ve been told they aren’t making classic flaps, slowing production, no more black and gold being distributed, or only 1-2 per boutique so get it right away.

I complete agree and I think that it is ridiculous. I like when going to a contemporary brand store and they might have limited offers and sales. In my experience, I haven’t been pressured to buy any of those items from the employees in the store. I would only put the pressure on myself if I should be buying any item regardless of what it is.

I just panic purchased a lv pochette accessories because i have been looking for one online and they haven't been available. I went online early morning and it read "place in cart" so i did. I already have the old version but is it worth to get the new? My old PA is 20 years old and bought off of fashionphile for $600. Which one should i return?

I had a message like this from LV for the Tiny bag from the spring in the city collection... but I had bought the Felicie pochette in pastel colors so had no more budget and declined.. I requested to place an order for the loop bag in denim that is sold out but they never replied not even saying it wasn't possible.. a 'little' disappointed.. I actually regret the Félicie as it doesnt fit nothing but i just can't return it and get the tiny instead as in fine it is a spring summer multi pochette that i would like!! Love love the multi pochette !

I’ve noticed that recently Nordstrom started indicating how many of a particular size of something are still available for purchase. Totally creates FOMO anxiety in me! ☹️

What I don’t understand is why Louis Vuitton now have so much things on their website🤷‍♀️ the populair items! Normally it’s so hard to get! I am very happy with my new Alma BB, cardholder and agenda MM but still🙄 I don’t understand🤷‍♀️ does anyone have a theory? I live in the Netherlands..

I’ve definitely had this happen to me, where SAs will say “it’s the last one in the country” but going online and searching it’s availability in store and showing multiple 🤣 I’ve called them out a few times but yeah SAs do lie to us to try and get us to shop which is unfortunate 🥲
