‘The independent woman’, a phrase that many women wear with pride but seem to scare off potential suitors. Much talk on social media has been going around saying that dating an independent woman is difficult, or men who claim they want ‘independent partners’ do not seem to match up to dating expectations. In this episode, Sonia and our guests dive into finding out why people are so afraid to date independent women and what expectations are exactly involved.

Enjoyed the video alot! The conversation is off to a rocky start when they define strong independent women as someone who has high earning power or holding a high position. It's a very restrictive definition. Beyond this, a strong independent lady can be someone who is fighting cancer or someone who has to look after all the elderly in a household or someone who has to mother a special needs child. Given that, why would men be afraid of dating strong independent women? And even if we stick to the restrictive definition, pretty sure many local men who are confident themselves don't mind marrying up because strong independent women will only complement and supplement us. And vice versa, we men will complement and supplement the strong independent ladies in other attributes and domains of life. SG men aren't that bad afterall. Fortunately, the perspectives shared in the video remain balanced.The question then should be directed at the women whether they are ok to date men whom they deem are lesser than them financially or in socioeconomic status (though I have to reiterate that success is not solely defined by $$). On a personal note, i really dont care whether the lady earns alot more than me. That means i am of a certain calibre to be valued that strong independent woman and i can have a more relaxed life living with her.

Wow, the crowd in here is brutal. Sonia and Chow are strong independent people. I think their partners and friends can appreciate how they're able to get their life together without measuring their worth by their relationships. It is nice to have a partner who can navigate life and its various administrative currents well. The experiences and wisdom they bring into their relationships, romantic or platonic, will have depth. The folks who are antagonising them over their looks or social media profiles must be really insecure if you need to roast people to feel better about yourselves just because they are doing well at their roles as entertainers. You don't know them outside of their jobs and online personas. Picking on them is just low.

As a man myself, the biggest fear we have when dating a woman who makes more than us or is an 'independent woman' is that they'll leave us because they don't think we are up to their standards of being able to take care of them.

I'd say that the 'independent woman' would find meaning and joy in the emotional connection/ ability to help each other grow together as a couple/ shared interests. Wouldn't that be more irreplaceable than financial support? :)
@bayernjames9546
@bayernjames9546 Жыл бұрын
@@totallyrandomkiddo Yes, you're right. But not all 'independent women' think the same. When it comes to 'independent women' and breakups, unless it's the partner cheating, we mostly hear that they break up because they feel they no longer need their man. Also, we rarely to almost don't hear a man dumping his woman because he's out earning her. We mostly hear about the woman dumping her man once she outearns him.
@walauahahaha
@walauahahaha Жыл бұрын
@@bayernjames9546 agree, if we exclude the cheating factor, then it would be something like this statement. Man earns more so that he can provide to his families, woman earns more so that she don't need a man to rely on
@sentinel011
@sentinel011 11 ай бұрын
@@bayernjames9546 my experience is that a lot of the "independent woman" i know, would still expect the man to be able to provide for her should she decide to forgo her career at any point and be a 'taitai'. And the narrative that the dating culture presents itself in 2023 is that that perfect guy would eventually take notice of her, so that she doesn't need to be independent anymore. That being said, I am glad to be acquainted with other independent women that truly want a simple life with a man that simply appreciates her, in a similar manner that she appreciates him as well. A few of these independent women also proactively chase the guys they see good qualities in a future partner, and from my observation, all of them are currently having successful, fulfilling marriages.

I too am curious about being in a relationship with someone who is alot more financially independent than me, or the same level. I consider myself lucky to have a good salary job without any liability especially when my parents are richer than me. I wonder how it feels to be with someone where decisions/surprises/trips/activities can be made without much thought about the cost (of course i am not talking about tens of thousands of spending everytime) =)

Recent studies show that the average woman expects her man to earn at least 1.5 times what she does. That severely limits the dating pool, as women earn more and more.

Weird. Shouldn't that make you feel good about yourself? If a strong independent woman doesn't need you - but wants you in her life for no other reason than you being you. Don't get why that would be unattractive to men...

the thing with chow is this... what she mentioned about what they want in a relationship first off... she doesnt want children! she said she not good with children... doesnt want to go thru it etc... tho she might allow it if the man was willing to be the stay at home daddy... a surrogate mother etc... but who knows only she can tell u... but she is a damn strong independent woman either way! but i think i know how her mind thinks based on what she said on the tsl eatbook and zula channels ... but i also thing she dated younger men cuz of that reason also... not many men want a woman who dont want a family in the long run!

Strong independent women fail to realize that the type of hyper masculine men they want, dont exist in abundance. And even if they find that one unicorn, he wants a highly feminine woman and not a strong independent one. 😅

Unpleasant and rude people are often branded as strong and independent. "independent" because no one wants to be around obnoxious personalities. "Strong" because they are often self centered. These type of personalities are great for ambitious high achievers.

everyone is talking about "partnership" or "communication" when it comes to building a long term relationship, but if she's decently attractive she will more likely to see most men have no values So a unicorn is basically an "inter"dependent person, it's very hard to find that kind of female a cording to today culture
