In this video I am weighing lambs to take to the livestock mart at Lanark.
This isn't the happiest of processes but it's the reason we farm, to feed the nation, and I'm proud of the grass fed, low carbon footprint product we have in our Scotch Lamb.

ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZfaq and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

So nice to see you appreciating all Lizzy does and the two of you working as a team. Hi Cami, Lizzie and Jock, Thank you for great vlogs, you are doing Scotland proud!!👍🏻I'm from down the road in Dumfries and Galloway so more familiar scenery in the Hoof GP!, but we see more of the country via you and your 🐑compared to Graham and the 🐄!!. Love all the films showing my background and basically life from the farming side but also the stunning country we live in and it's people who make it.!! Oh, the red/orange "fruits" in the hedge are rosehips , used in beauty, pharmaceutical industries.

Hi Cammy Rab here from Antrim. As a Pedigree Suffolk breeder I was happy to see the Suffolk was the heaviest and out preformed the Texels. As they usually do. You need more Black heads and black legged tups. Don't worry about the black arses. Texels are slower to finish. If mixed lambs Texels and Suffolk run together same age.the plian looking suffolks always surprises me while a good looking texel is not up to weight I observed that over the years. The old British traditional breeds ever time. 🤣👍🏼.I Love the videos keep it going. Rab Graham

Great Video Cammy very enjoyable watch for a non farmer like me. With farms and land prices so high do you aspire to leasing a farm or will you go for an outright purchase? I imagine renting fields all over the place could be quite time consuming rather than in a ring fence...your texels looked fantastic but your suffolk x earned more in the ring but I'd love to know if it earned more per kilo against the Texels. I definitely would love to see a full video on getting your lambs ready for market. Keep up the good work Cammy I always enjoy your vids 👍

Could the flowers on the fence be trumpet vine!? 🤷‍♀️ I bet it could grow in Scotland since it will survive Iowa, USA winters. Your videos make me wish the grocery stores in the area carried lamb meat. There’s a little ice cream ship in Grinnell, Iowa that sells lamb burgers and I loved them. I’d probably have to drive an hour to Des Moines, Iowa, our state capital to find it. Or some other larger town. Is it offensive to say it tasted like beef? Maybe it had some beef fat on it from cooking it on same grill as hamburgers. Very interesting video.

Obviously you both understand training sheep dogs, but I don't actually know if you practice inside or not! All Dogs Are Smart KZfaq channel has great tutorials of stock dog training that Lizzy could do inside. You said Fern was Lizzy's and doing drills inside away from stock are super helpful to proof Fern's skills! Being the superwoman that Lizzy is I bet she could do drills with baby in hand like it's nothing. Lizzy seems to be superwoman, if I was pregnant I wouldn't be able to do half the things she did on a daily basis. It's rather intimidating if I'm being honest lol.

The weight of the lambs at home I didn't learn that in school just basic math. So next time you do a video at home at least I do like knowing for some reason how much they weigh at birth and when they go to the auction barn. Sometimes Sandi would let us see it but not much lately or I'm not catching all the videos. Like say a number on the scale for us to watch for. It's 10-1-21 at 2:11am. Shopping for tomorrow late morning I hope. Later.

Weight is a subjective thing in sheep..in fact..sheep are a subjective thing! The breed that i raise is critically endangered because they were used for parliamentary wigs and dolls hair (having 37-50 cm long white, black or blue curly locks that are lustrous and shiny like real human hair) during the Edwardian and Victorian periods. When those industries fell from favor, because these sheep take a full 18 months to reach maturity, the meat industry had little use for them and they vanished…almost completely…until a flock of 45 pure breeds were found in Tasmania! There are now 1000 breeding sheep of the Leicester Longwool of breeding quality and we are working hard to bring them back to favor. My point (nearly lost a few sentences back) is that they are still considered lamb (not mutton) until at least 16-20 months depending on their physical maturity and it is possible to raise a 130 Kilo lamb in 8 months on just grass! I’d go crazy if I had to sell out my lambs every 16 weeks! I recently sold a 3 year old to a lamb expert who want to try it..he assured me it was 4 month old lamb! I corrected him and he refused to believe it. It was the sweetest and most mild ‘lamb’ he had ever served his guests. But not all lambs are mutton at 10-12 months.

That’s brilliant! Over here they are sold as either lamb / mutton depending on wether or not their adult teeth have came up.
