I'm from Auckland NZ and I did not find NYC people to be rude at all. Everyone I asked directions from gave me really accurate directions and wished me luck; they just didn't have the luxury of time to slow down and talk to me properly. I truly didn't mind that. The fact that so many of these people even took that much time to help me out was really appreciated.

First time I was in New York I asked directions in the Entertainment District...the lady told me to "use your fuckin' phone!"

Im a southerner and for me NY/NJ are friendly. Getting the point across is paramount. The south we have to dance around and over talk the point. So who is rude? 6 in one and 1/2 dozen the other.

Haven't been to New York...yet, but I think Vegas (Where I spent most of my life) get's the same wrong perception of people living there, that New York get's. Vegas has had the nicest, willing to help people that I have ever met.

No, we are not rude. We have a difference in culture with people from other places not in the northeast of the United States. People just misinterpret these differences as rudeness. If these people spent more time actually getting to know New Yorkers they'd understand.
