Homage Watches Are Totally Okay | Pagani Design GMT Pepsi and Batman vs Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi
I’m not sure about you but whenever I am doing some shopping on Amazon, I always come across homage watch brands. One brand in particular is Pagani Design. I’ve never personally owned or handled any homage watches before but I was always curious how it would compare against its genuine counterpart.
Today, we are taking a look at how a couple Pagani Design GMT watches (Pepsi and Batman version) stack up against my Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi. We’re also going to talk about who these homage watches are for and how they are completely okay to own, even for a watch enthusiast like you and I!
Also, I’d like to announce that I will be doing a watch giveaway very soon, so please stay on the lookout in my next few videos for details on how you can participate in this giveaway. Wish you the best of luck in advance!
Hope you all enjoy this video and as always thank you for stopping by and talking the time to watch and comment on my videos. I truly appreciate every single one of you! For those of you that are joining for the first time, please consider subscribing for more Clicky Bezel content like this video!

I made a custom Pepsi homage watch for my friend with a customized dial and his name on the rotor and bracelet…he always talked about the Rolex Pepsi in the past. I even made a certificate of authenticity stating it was “one-of-kind” and “lifetime warranty”. Rolex can’t beat that…a true birthday present.

I agree 100%. Over the last 30 years, I have owned 4 Rolex (3 from new, one pre-owned). Just sold the Daytona earlier this year and stumbled across homage watches (Pagani Design, Cronos and San Martin). I now own 7 of them and love them. The Rolex were fantastic investments and functional timepieces. Ultimately, they are just watches. Good, but not spectacular. Some of the homage pieces are 95% of the Rolex at 1-2% of the Rolex price. No brainer!

I purchased a Pagani Design Rolex Daytona homage JUST so I could understand the quality. I seriously was not intending to wear or use it…but, my wife opened it and was in love with it! It cost a whopping $58 USD (sale) and looks terrific. Quality is a little weak in a couple of areas of the bracelet. But the watch itself has been solid for her. She’s a chef, and wearing it to work isn’t an issue because its just such an affordable watch.

When it comes to homage pieces, you have to consider that there are a lot of us out there who can't afford a Rolex or something of that price range and frankly don't know or care what is in their catalog. I chose the Pagani "Batman" GMT because I like the look, specs, price and functionality - but frankly had zero idea that it was a Rolex homage when I chose it. I don't know what Rolex is producing or has produced, and since I can't afford one then frankly I couldn't care less if tried. The fact that some people want to call these watches "homages" is completely irrelevant, and a lot of us won't - and didn't - take the supposed homage status into account. Actually, there just might be more of us who chose a watch for its looks, etc. rather than because it was an homage. Just something to consider...

“It’s not here to fool anyone” - exactly! I hate when people say homage is a legal way to produce replicas. You can’t sell an homage as an original watch. IMO homage brands replace at least some percent of fake watch market and customers don’t give their money to real criminals

I’ve already had my time with my luxury timepieces from Rolex to Grand Seiko, I sold them all except my Tag Heuer F1 which has sentimental value. What they will not tell you is that eventually you get sick of them just like any other watch not to mention I had to insure them just case something happens to them, you got your bases covered. I’m just a watch collector from $10 Casios to $10,000+ and up timepieces. I like them all. I just bought homages of my favorite Rolexes in the collection I just sold off. I sleep better at night. I’d rather give a $100 Pagani Design GMT Master II homage than my $15k Rolex GMT Master II to a robber. I’d probably lose my life over that timepiece. 😂 Recent stats show that robberies of luxury timepieces totaled over 1.5 billion dollars.

I will never be able to afford a Rolex or near equivalent but love the GMT look so I tried the Pagani and was pretty impressed with it for $100. I usually wear citizen eco drives but wanted to switch it up. I don’t pretend it’s a Rolex and when asked about it (it gets a decent amount of compliments) I tell them exactly what it is. Most people respond by saying wow, for that price they wouldn’t spend the extra money on the Rolex. That being said, I love watches but I’m not a ride or die for the originals nor are most of the people I interact with. I would never wear a copy and try to pass it off as an original.

You hit it on the spot with the "it will never feel like the real thing" and I agree. For me at least there's this lingering feeling that I'm trying to replicate the look with the homage of the watch I really like. I've had tens of homages just to try them out and I have zero in my collection right now. They always end up being sold. There are so many good affordable watches with a bit of originality that are worth it more than just the 1-1 homages/copies.

I had the Phylida Batman which was very well finished and had a BI-DIRECTIONAL bezel that was fully lumed on top of that... but given a massive temperature drop in my area the movement must have gotten affected somehow and it went kaput. I thought about changing it out because I wanted that fully lumed two-way bezel and higher finishing so bad... but I may have to end up going with the Pagani. I wish they would upgrade this with a new addition that has a bidirectional lumed bezel... I'd snap it up in a heartbeat and never look back. Also, the PD does come with an Oyster bracelet as an option right? Just always preferred that look to the Jubilee.

In the mean time I’ve turned on a couple of friends who are now addicted to watch collecting and have bought more Paganis. I was actually fooled today by one’s Pagani chronograph! Watches are becoming like womens jewelry. For the money I have to agree that the Pagani is a good investment although a friend’s GMT has quit running! Got any idea where to get it repaired? Most shops look at it and because they think it’s a fake won’t touch it. Keep up the videos and BTW, I don’t think anyone who owns a GMT watch, no matter what make, even know how to use it!

I’ve had bad experiences with these watches. The movements are never adjusted before they send them out. The last one, the bracelet refused to come off. It took three hours and two pairs of pliers to finally get it off. I’ve seen reviews where the GMT hand is jumpy. Plus, they’re not even “true” GMTs, as you mentioned. I have a few because they’re enticing (including a Captain Willard, which runs annoyingly slow and was obviously a returned item) but I’ll probably never buy another.

According to San Martin, ceramic Pepsis are tricky to manufacture. Apparently, it has to do with the temperature they need to apply to the ceramic. This temperature is very different for red and blue colors. With black and blue, for instance, there's just a few degrees of difference. That's why, if you buy a ceramic bezel insert from China, it will cost maybe 7 dollars, but for a Pepsi ceramic insert they will charge you then times that amount.

Trouble is that a lot of homage watches have seriously bad quality control. I’ve wasted $1,000 on two Cronos watches (A GMT and a Sub homage) .. and after a while you realize that most of these watches simply aren’t worth it. They’re not necessarily a ‘savings’ because they’ll cost you more in repair. That being said .. I think they can be fun .. and if you’re lucky to get one that isn’t crap they can scratch an itch. I have a few homages in my collection .. but I think the ones I enjoy most are from WMT watches (I have the ‘Saw Blade’ homage), as well as Phylida (with their ‘No dime to buy’ watch). Probably the one that I wear the most is my ‘stunt Rolex’ Air King homage from Pagani Design .. I bought it to act as a beater watch for my actual Rolex Air King. So, I’m not against homages .. would be hypocritical of me to do so .. seeing as I own about 8 homages (mostly bought for review purposes). But I will admit I’ve wasted a fair amount of money on some of these .. enough money that’s I could have bought a really good luxury watch in their place. They do a decent job of ‘looking’ like the watch they’re pretending to be .. the feel is completely off and they’ll never give you anywhere near the same experience. Of course, if you can’t afford a luxury watch I totally get it. But I’d say .. buy the homage watch of the luxury watch you wanna buy for real .. and save your pennies for that. You’ll get there eventually .. and you’ve got a place holder in the meantime.

I'm now hearing that some Rolex owners also own replicas of them to wear on holiday etc rather than risk the real one. Acceptable?
@ClickyBezel
@ClickyBezel Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of this. For me at least, there are plenty of alternatives out there. For instance depending on where I am headed, I wear my Seiko 5 GMT when traveling instead of my Pepsi. I’d much rather have memories with a watch I know is, well, genuine but it’s all up to the wearer. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video!

I dont even care what a certain watch represents ... I just look at esthetic and the dimensions. I like watches but wouldn't pend o much money as Rolex request. I know ... many people wouldn't spend so much on a guitar as I do. So it really is all personal preference that makes the point.

I don't mind Pagani design and the likes, they provide good watches for a ridiculous price. I do have an issue with the term "homage" though. These watches aren't paying homage to anything, they're just lazy copies of well-known designs in order to maximize profit.

You are foolish to over the so called homage watch. For the price, feel and look and VALUE, you will look like a million bucks for a small fraction of the name brand watch. And if you bump it and break it, buy another one and you still save lots of cream. I look for an attractive and interesting and fun looking homage. So long as it has a sapphire glass and decent movement. Take a homage and change out the strap, you got yourself a million dollar look!

Hello Chris, nice video but I’m gonna have to disagree with you on this one. Homage pieces is an euphemism for “replica in disguise”. And yes their purpose is to fool others to think they are the real thing (otherwise whit would they try to be so close to the real thing). Also I find it morally questionable to blatantly copy someone else’s design. “Homage watches” are a disgrace.

these are not watches. they are jokes . pure jokes. there is no homage to any of these. just stolen designs, ''stolen'' movements , no quality control, ultra expensive, zero value if someone decides to sell them. and even some of them do not have oil on the movement . for seventy dollars you can get a seiko crown, for example
