Yes, Hasbro is a terrible company that has changed a lot of things in MTG for the worse, and yes, there have been many poor decisions in Magic's history, but there are still wonderful people in the development, design, and the entire community that truly care about the game and the players. When Prof says that it's important to be critical, but not cynical, people like you should take note. Now, Nestle and many other mega corporations like that can and should be avoided like the plague. Especially when they are harming the environment, communities, and people in need. But that's not discussion that's needed here. Or wanted.

I personally love that secret lairs no longer print to demand. The way they all sell out before I'm even aware that sales have opened has saved me so much money. The fact that I'm clearly no longer the target audience for this game because Hasbro only wants to sell products to wealthy speculators and scalpers has really helped me to break my addiction to cardboard crack.

I'm surprised Prof didn't mention the fact that the formatting on the "Goblingram" drop means that while they did technically include rules text, unlike the "Poker Face" drop, said rules text is CUT OFF by the Instagram-inspired formatting. So for most of those goblins, we only get to see half their rules text, because WotC decided it was more important to take up space on the card with a fake comments section where the goblins can get "trolled" by Thrun.

If the fake comments were the rules text, it could've worked better. Similar to how the Creepshow secret lair had the rules text in speech bubbles, so the cards were still playable and also still looked like pages from a comic.

Whichever part of the team got Miku to say "New Secret Lair Alert" you are my hero and also, I almost choked on my water. I'm glad I got my hands on a nonfoil one, even if I did want a foil. That's the price you be for not being awake when it drops I guess. Or the price you pay when Wizards of the Coast decides FOMO is better for business than selling what I can only assume is *an absurdly larger amount of cards*. So I have thoughts on the comic sans secret lair. I really want Mogis and Torment for commander decks, and doom blade is a personal favorite card of mine. Plus I am sure I would find a home for the other 2 cards. The art is beautiful and if it wasn’t a joke secret lair I probably would have preordered it. This is actually a case where wizards making a joke lost them money. Because I would have been super happy to buy the cards even if the financial value wasn’t there. I mean look at that art!

Honestly my one issue with the Sans Mercy lair is the choice to make the text haphazardly capitalized - the Spongebob meme is specifically alternating caps, but the lair would've been perfect if it was either all capitalized or all lowercase that being said i still got one, partially for the art, partially for the good value, partially because it's a themed lair where all the cards can be played in a commander deck of the legend included in the lair, and finally partially because I know there's gonna be plenty of people who're gonna unreasonably mad at seeing comic sans mogis across the table

I think the artwork of Goblingram is really fun and the *concept* of them being social media posts feels thematically appropriate to a goblin Secret Lair, but I do feel that the execution was lacking, especially when it comes to readability. I don't know if I'd want to buy it, but it is neat to look at!

I love the poker style in foil and grabbed them to sit in my binder until I eventually trade or sell them. So pretty. I noticed the foil value on sans mercy and it's kind of crazy this isn't sold out yet. They'll be even more valuable if they don't sell out. And I got a Miku set to play for a month and then sell off, because those were pretty clearly going to sell out quickly and be quite popular.

The professor's affirmation of knowing about the Gorillaz and J-pop fills me with confidence about how connected he is with the pulse of our modern society. Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't go with Josie and the Pussycats, but... I suppose Jem and the Holograms isn't exactly a truly outrageous pull either. I've always respected the hustle of the Vocaloid project and the idea of trying to humanize this very digital instrument into something more. The persona lets artists do their thing and not have to put themselves out there. That being said, a lot of the respect I have for vocaloids also applies to those in the Vtuber and PNGtuber space, although in the case of Vtubers, there's actually individual creatives that can be far more easily identified rather than just the boilerplate mask that Miku smooths over artists with.

I love that you were able to get someone to tune those voicelines just for a bit. The camera angles for the eye shots were the cherry on top. This is coming from a weeb that appreciates Miku as well, but held off on the secret lair (and probably the rest of the drop. Nothing really tickles my fancy this time). If MtG ever officially collabs with any sort of vtubers I think the Prof's just going to turn into the art for Old Fogey.

@@Tuchpi TBH I didn't even see the dual packs because of how fast I moved because I was in the cart cue in the first minute and there was no advertising on them. I would have just bought just 1 EN and 2 Duals to leave even just 2 EN and JP packs for the wolves if I knew but the site que was 40 minutes even with me hitting the cart in 30 seconds of the shop opening.... Really wish this this stuff was print to demand still because Miku merch sells like crazy if it has any amount of quality. Wizards is never prepared for anime fans and otaku like me

I was waiting for this video! I love how the prof looks and sounds so uncomfortable talking about Miku lol That may not be the case but it's still funny to see him talk have to talk about it and to also see Miku dance throughout this. That's our virtual idol for ya :)

I generally find that I am only ever interested in secret lairs that are alternate versions of cards but still in the normal style of magic art like many of the artist series secret lairs. All I can say is I'm glad that the secret lairs as of late haven't looked particularly good from that standpoint so I don't have to race the scalpers lol.

Tuesday I decided to play casual (we all used precons) EDH at my lgs and had a blast. I was in a pod with a lady that was a huge fan of the prof, she also mentioned the Secret Lair that sold out almost immediately.... 3 hours? Wow.

11:00 Important thing to note that you might have missed. The Goblingram lair has the text cut off. Like it doesn’t even say the full rules text which is a very terrible design choice. But it really seemed between that and no mercy they went for the memes… in a very cringe way

The extended showcase of lurrus of the dream den strikes the perfect balance of beauty and readability. Wizards should really look at more artsy borders that synergize with the art that is on the card.

Griselbrand isnt really challenged in reanimator in legacy. It has other cards that ride in the toolbox with it now but it almost always the reanimator target with the most copies of itself in the deck.
