In this video I do an un-groomed flatground session on my skate mental board makes and fails. I also share my favourite website for info on board brands and the history of independent trucks. At the end I have an idea for an upcoming video.

Just skated my first skate mental tonight and it’s my favorite board ever. Reminds me of a Girl shape with a little more concave and way better wood. Love the videos btw, nice seeing other geriatrics that are still at it haha.

Nice review Ben! I'm skateboarding a skate mental board right now and your right I feel the exact same way.. I also bruised my heel on the board today on a switch inward heel. A stiff board with some nike foam soles I was just asking for it definitely not a good combo, I personally don't like there boards tho to stiff for my liking

Hey Ben I just got a new pair of venture trucks for Christmas but they are rlly high than I’m used to is there a way I can make it lower to make it more cumfotable
@bendegros
@bendegros 6 жыл бұрын
Matthew Stuy it sounds like you got the venture highs. I don't think there is much you can do to change them. The height is in the tall hanger. If you make the bottom bushing smaller you change the angle of the truck and the kingpin won't be centred. What truck are you coming from? It shouldn't take too long to get used to them. If you have the right kind of board they work pretty nicely. They are a bit of a shock at first coming from a lower truck. They are popular though. A lot of the primitive guys ride them.

Element is bareback/generator wood. The wood in terms of quality should be like dlx, baker boys distro, the killing floor, pass port, magenta to name a few, being that bbs/generator makes them as well.

I started skating maybe for about 4-6 months now and I push mongo regular. I here that it's sloppy and what not when I go to the park. However, does it or will it become a disadvantage or handicap? Is it worth re learning how to push, and push goofy?
@bendegros
@bendegros 7 жыл бұрын
I just answered your question in my newest video. But the short answer is, yes, it is worth relearning how to push especially when you are still so early on.

I'm here with the usual idiot question ahaha.. can you tell me the difference between a distribution and a warehouse.. and why the distribution and warehouse here in Europe are different! And if they're different the wood use in us or Canada are different from here! Thanks as always for your patience! ;)

They are still in great shape. I have no idea when they came out. To be honest, up until six months ago I was totally ignorant on the stages of indys. I thought they were all the same for the last 20 years. Since I started this channel I have learned so much.

Benny, do you have any thoughts on brain mechanics and skating. I.e - considering, the limbic system (instinctive/unconscious and reward area) and/vs the frontal lobes (executive functioning/conscious decision making)…I’m aware this might sound ridiculous and might need further explanation, so, please, forgive my lazy speculation..?
@ird2607
@ird2607 6 жыл бұрын
I should, though, point out - this is in regard to trick commitment and unconscious intentional bailing.
@bendegros
@bendegros 6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't sound ridiculous at all. I however am unfortunately not educated in those fields at all. It sounds like it could be fascinating. I think if one was to study those areas one could probably make broad comparisons between all sports and brain mechanics. The info is probably already out there and if anyone has started that work I would guess Rodney Mullen first. Great question.

@ßird Works Speaking from personal experience, I'm an analyser and overthinker by nature and so skateboarding takes on a huge challenge of an opposite mentality with being reactionary. So personally for me, I put in more practice training my brain repetitively skating the same obstacles, over and over develop a comfort level in how to bail in certain situations. Only having played basketball growing up, I started skating just at the end of high school and then the college life (turning 32 soon). It's definitely a gradual process personally to understand my limitations in what I can do on a board and I try not to be discouraged and take the positives and negatives from a session. I'm thankful that physically that I can get out and skate. I recommend checking out Tom Knox from Santa Cruz, he mentions something about a lot how his jiujitsu ties into skateboarding due to similarities in being instinctual and reactionary. If you want to learn how to bail properly, I highly suggest watching the tuck 'n roll from any martial arts video, it'll safe your life! Ben - you bring an awesome perspective with a piece of humble pie in your videos, you're an inspiration. The cross training has been very, very helpful! Cheers sir.

Hey this is Jordan again. Sorry if I missed it but have you gotten a chance to really decide which companies boards you like to ride on thunders vs indys yet?
@bendegros
@bendegros 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan. Most companies will have a range of boards that could work with either. Most deluxe brands will go well with indy's. That would be Real, Krooked, Antihero usually have a fairly steep nose and tail and good concave. I liked Primitive boards best on Thunders. It also is totally depends on personal preference. I know really good skaters who like indy's and a flat board which would be useless to me. I hurt my knee and won't be able to skate for a few more weeks so my board testing is on hold:( What brands are you interested in?

I ride Baker boards OG shape deep concave 7.75. Ive been wondering about Indy trucks and the stages. Thanks
@bendegros
@bendegros 6 жыл бұрын
I should make a video about them. The only problem is I don't have any trucks earlier than stage 9. If you look on cragslist for skateboards for sale you can find older models of indys because people are selling boards they have had laying around for years. Look for indys with the holes in the baseplate and those will be stage 9's. I am always on the lookout for vintage trucks. I am a truck hoarder.

Ben Degros I just got my first pair of Indys the other day. Sage 11 forged base plate, titanium axle. Cant wait to skate them. Ive skated Venture, Ace, Tensor and Gullwing. A video about it would be cool cause no one has made such a vid. Thanks for the tips 😊

Ben Degros My sponsor gave me a great deal on them ❤ they are nice and light. Mine are 129 so very light and I skate a 7.75. Its my 8 sized board, he he. Im like 5, 5 tall size 7 in mens vans and weigh about 115. So big boards and heavy trucks are difficult for me. So my 7.75 is my everything board. Transition, park, street. I know for most men its just to small.
